Meet Butkus....yep he is definitely not a shar pei. Call it a moment of weakness but seriously how could we let this guy get euthanized over some pretty breed specific medical issues which happen to be right up our alley in the shar pei world. Butkus might be the happiest boy ever. He loves everyone. His tail never stops wagging or what whatever you call that little nub. Thank God he is cute and sweet because this guy is not the brightest bulb on the tree. So if you are the person who likes your dogs good looking and sweet and not concerned if they never figure out how to sit this is your guy! He loves car rides but so far is not a fan of walking but we are convinced with the help of Bertha he will realize how much he loves it. He is a good sized boy at 58lbs. He was seen by our vet yesterday and like Bertha did have decreased tear production in both eyes. He will need his cherry eyes addressed at time of surgery. Are you wondering what a shar pei rescue is doing with a pair of bulldogs...well so are we! It was a complete moment of weakness. Meet Bertha. This girl is as wide as she is tall but she has started her intermittent fasting, youtube ab videos and twice a day walks. This girl loves to walk so we are excited to see her waist line start to become visible This girl is great with people and other dogs. She did come in with her man Butkus but they do not need to be adopted together but we would love to see her go to a home with another dog. They had their first vet visit and honestly all their medical issues are pretty much identical to the medical problems we see with Shar Pei. Her tear production was reduced so we are going to assume she will need lifetime eye drops to replace that decreased tear production. Her skin was in great shape but did have an ear infection so an adopter that is familiar with weekly ear maintenance. She loves car rides and walks great on a leash. I stipulated that if I found her alone on the street again, I wouldn't return her. Five days later, and the guardian's minor children handed her over to me with her food. They told me that their parents were separated and that the dog belonged to their father, who had gone to Los Angeles, CA. That I couldn't take her, and that her mother didn't want her. I accepted them.

I am a beautiful and very sweet 9 year old with a calm but also playful attitude about life.I would love to have a large, fenced-in yard where I can do zoomies and chase squirrels and lizards. I really don't know what I'd do with them if I caught them, but the chase sure is fun! I can also be chill and relax with you in the house or the yard.I am good in the house and haven't had any accidents. I sleep a lot after my zoomies and chasing critters but I am quiet all night.I think I would be a good girl with another pup to play with. I do have a Foster brother and we play a lot! Meet Baguette! This nibbly boy transferred to us from the San Diego Humane Society! Baguette was found as a stray and taken to a local vet. He was picked up by Humane Law Enforcement not long after and taken to SDHS. He had been there a month prior where he was secluded due to his kennel stress and was on anxiety medications. They were working to address his health concerns when we took over. His previous owner must have left him outdoors as he had healing fly bites on his ears, corneal scarring on his left eye, healing scrapes on his lower back, and was underweight. During his time with us we weaned him off his anxiety medications, his skin has improved, and we continue to work on the cause of his gastrointestinal upset. Health implications aside, Baguette has been an energetic busy bee with his new friends, loves to nibble on the staff's fingers, and is such a ball of joy! Health considerations: Baguette still has consistent blood in his stools. We have conducted a series of blood and parasite tests, all of which did not point to any root cause. We are working through changes to his prescribed diet to find what will work best for his gastrointestinal concerns. The next step in addressing his health concerns is an abdomen ultrasound. We have an appointment with a specialist for his ultrasound on 12/16 and hope to come closer to diagnosing his ailment in the near future. Baguette has permanent corneal scarring on his left eye. This does not greatly affect his eyesight as it is rather small. Please note that Baguette is not available until he has a diagnosis and treatment/management plan. Regarding COVID-19 and other contagious illnesses: Please reschedule any visits if you are sick.
