Story
Hi! My name is Chelsea Dagger (yes, Blackhawk fans, THAT Chelsea Dagger!). Chicago Animal Control found me on the streets and when they found me, I was super thin (under 45lbs), limping, and in all-around pretty rough shape. I had obviously been bred before being abandoned. I now look healthy! My limp is gone, and I love to walk, jump and play. I even do stairs well. You would never know I have arthritis if it weren't for my daily doggie ibuprofen! The vet says I’m about 4 years old, and I am doing really well! I must have received some training along the way, because I haven’t had any accidents in the house. I am doing great with sitting, learning to stay when doors are open, and my leash walking has improved. In short, I will do just about anything for a treat. I still need to work a bit on jumping up, but I get so excited when I see my foster mom and dad that sometimes I forget. Oh, and I’m quite the wiggle-butt! Although my tail is short and stumpy it is almost always wagging. I don’t mind going in my crate to bed every night, or when my foster parents are away. Otherwise, I like to be out where I can explore and be close to whoever is in the room. I love being near my foster parents and I’m very inquisitive and affectionate. I’m learning all the different sounds of my foster house and my neighborhood. Some of them make me nervous, and sometimes I bark at night – but usually settle down pretty quickly. My foster parents tease me that I really want to be a lap dog. I’m only 50 pounds (soon to be more like 70!), so I don’t understand what the big deal is. Oh, and when my foster mom and dad are in Zoom meetings, they keep me busy with bones and licking mats – so I like it when they have meetings. I also like joining their meetings on occasion and am always the star of the show. People love my little snaggle tooth that pops out when I smile. My foster family has another female dog, and I’m not too sure about her yet. Every time I go outside, I look around to see if she is there, and wag my tail a lot when we walk together. I think I want to be friends, but I don’t know how. Maybe it is the time I spent on the street and the way I was treated by other dogs, but I always feel like I need to defend myself. I’m still working on it. I haven’t been around any children – so I’m not sure how I feel about them. I’m also not sure what cats are, or how I would feel about them. I am really smart and would love a family who would play with me, give me fun puzzles and activities to do, and most of all Cuddle! I am a full body hugger and snuggle bug. My foster parents seem to think that I would be best in a home without any other dogs so I can give all the loves and get all the loves. They tell me I am very sweet, and they think I would make a fantastic only dog. Story
Hi! My name is Murphy and I’m 7 years old, but my foster family calls me Big Murph, Big Moose and Big Mooseman Murph! I noticed they say “big” a lot, and apparently, I am. When I was surrendered by my last home, due to a work conflict, and I weighed in at 98lbs then, but I’m already down 3lbs and looking buff! The nice people at the Dupage Animal Services knew that calling CEBR would be a great choice because they know bulldogs best! I’ve been hanging out in my very own “apartment”, it’s pretty cozy down here. Sometimes I get a little sad when my foster family isn’t down here giving me all their attention but that’s because I’m worried they’ll leave me behind. It gets kind of hard when you’re not sure of your place being that this is my 3rd home. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong. My foster family tells me I’m such a good boy and I think so myself! I’m really good at sitting for my eye and ear medicine and getting my wrinkles all wiped out. I just had an eye surgery, I swear I’m not vain! My super thick eyelashes were turned in so they were scratching my eyes, OUCH! I can see much better now and that is exciting! Speaking of exciting, guess what makes my tail spin like a tornado? Soccer balls, basketballs, tennis balls, kong balls, you name a ball and I love it already! I also have 2 foster sisters and I know I my strength so I’m a little more gentle when I play with them. I'm good with female dogs, but no male dogs for my please. There’s also a really howly guy, seriously he’s always howling, but also waiting on meeting him. I do get a super wiggly tail when we all talk to each other and I’m learning to sit when I see them past the gates. I’m hoping to be friends with them too! I’m totally potty trained, I like calming music on when I’m by myself, gentle for a big guy but mostly I just want to be loved and not move again! Story
Hello, I would like to introduce myself to you. I am Maddie, a 5-year young English bulldog gal with tons of energy and love to give. I came to CEBR because my owners wanted to make sure I could continue to get the good life that I deserve. When I came to my foster family, I had no clue what a crate was, but I am ok with it now. I think I would rather sleep in bed with you or on the couch at night but enjoy my comfy crate to sleep. Although I'm excited to get out of the crate between 6:00-6:30 am, I am still half asleep. I'm not a morning dog. I love a long full body massage in the morning and will happily give you my arm for scratches and lay on my side for a chest rub! I am slow moving in the morning, so I need someone with patience and time. I sometimes stop halfway down the stairs in the morning to sit and close my eyes—it's rough being up this early! I am fully house trained, and I’m smart! I can lay down, sit, and shake on command. Isn’t that cool? During the day when my foster family is gone, I can stay out of the kennel. I am a good girl. I don’t chew on things that are not mine. I mostly sleep on the couch all day but have been found in my kennel when they get home sometimes. As the day goes on, my energy kicks in full blast—especially in the evening. I love to play all the time!!! My favorite activity is tug of war. I am awesome at it. I love to be chased in the house and will dazzle you with my moves! I can run as fast backwards as forwards and will hop to keep my toy away from you! I'll keep you smiling and laughing—I bring a lot of fun!! Sometimes I just don't want to stop playing, like when my foster parents are eating supper or when I'm hot. We are working on playing independently during those times or relaxing with some cuddles. I'm slowly getting it, but you can't blame me for trying to play some more---it's just so fun!! I am a healthy girl, but my eye lashes are rubbing against my eyes, so CEBR is working to get that fixed for me. I do well getting my eye drops twice a day. For the first few weeks in my foster home, I barked into their dark kitchen in the evening. Now that they leave the light on, this behavior has almost stopped. I have a little anxiety, so I am taking a pet relaxant to help. I don't like thunderstorms, loud noises or some animals on TV, and hate the vacuum cleaner (even when it's not running). The perfect family is one that can spend a lot of time with me. I need to be the center of everything. I prefer to be the only dog and no little kids. I can’t wait to meet my forever family. That is all for now. I need to go play, so I hope to hear from you soon! Story
Hi everyone – my name is Meatball. I am a short little squatty “Micro-Bully” (the vet thinks maybe American/English Bulldog, a little bit French and a little bit mini pittie) and I weigh a diminutive 35lbs. Although I am small in size, I am big in personality. I love to play with and chase my foster brother and sister, Roscoe (a CEBR alum) and Layla, around the backyard. I don’t do very well catching up to them. They have much longer legs. Although I am fully grown, my foster parents think I am still very puppy-like in some of my behaviors. I don’t like getting my paws wiped when I come in from outside. We are also working on understanding what are my toys rather than my foster parent’s hands. I need some redirection. I also need to learn to take treats gently. I get so excited that did a good job and earned a treat. I sometimes forget to take it nicely. My forever family needs to be patient with me as I keep learning. Since I am only 1-2 years old, my foster brother and sister are being good role models for me. They taught me a lot about walking on a leash and going on a walk. I was mostly potty trained when I got to my foster home, but Layla and Roscoe helped remind me where to do my business. When CEBR rescued me, I came in with a skin condition. The vet gave me some medicine and it is slowly clearing up. I am doing much better. I do want a family that can give me attention. I will follow you around and be your shadow. Then, I will quietly go back to my safe place, my crate. I do love big fluffy beds too. As you can see in my pictures, I am cute and adorable. My little tongue is often sticking out of my face. I love to give kisses and I am looking forward to finding my forever family! I’d really like to have other dogs in my forever family! Story
Whatchu doing? I MUST know. My name is Diesel, and whatever you’re doing is what I want to be doing! I’m about 4 years old, and weigh 48lbs. I’m curious and a good sniffer (especially for a bulldog!). If you’re doing laundry, so am I! If your closet needs reorganizing, I’ll help inspect every drawer. Yard work? Count me in! Errands? I call shotgun. I might have a bit of FOMO. . . . . I’m very mobile, great on a leash, and run up and down stairs easily. At the off-leash trail—I just follow along and stick close. Because I’m smart and so interested in what you’re doing, training me is easy, and I love working for treats. Playing tug is my favorite game, but you have to be careful of your hands, because I’m not always good at seeing where the toy stops and you start. If you give me a stuffed animal, the arms are the most delicious and must be immediately chewed off and swallowed, so my foster mom only lets me have indestructible toys, benebones, nylabones, buffalo horns, and rubbery chews. So far, I like to play best with humans, I’m not so sure about my foster brother trying to play, it makes me nervous. If he isn’t playing, I get along with him fine and enjoy meeting other dogs out on the trail. If you’re sitting on the sofa, snuggling and falling asleep with my big head (it’s a really BIG head) in your lap is the my favorite. I’m potty trained, but do need to go out frequently. I really don’t bark, unless someone comes to the door. I’m not destructive, unless it’s a stuffie that needs its arms eaten off, though I can get into shredding cardboard if you offer some. I’ve been around kids, and like them but probably should not play tug with them because I won’t be gentle enough. Sometimes I am so interested in what you’re holding that I’ll jump up to get a good look, but I’m working on keeping four on the floor. I get along with other dogs, but the best fit for me would be other dogs that won’t insist on playing with me. Cats are just fine with me as well. I’m fit and energetic, but do need my soft palate and tail pocket fixed, and CEBR will do that for me. When my foster mom cleans my nose rope and eyes, I’m very patient. Baths don’t bother me, and I sorta like the scrubbing part. Mostly I need a home that will have time to make sure that I have enough to do. While I enjoy naps, I need plenty of play, new sniffs, and other mental stimulation. I’m a smart, curious bulldog that loves to be fully included in your life.
