I am looking for the right home for a dog that came into our care through an unexpected situation. She originally belonged to my next-door neighbors and actually grew up next door to us alongside her sister, who lives with us. When her owners began dealing with serious health and personal issues, they were no longer able to keep her and were considering surrendering her to the pound. Rather than see that happen, we brought her into our home. Unfortunately, we already have five dogs, and transitioning into a large pack has been difficult for her. She grew up in a much quieter home with an older couple and was never really accustomed to living with several other dogs. Most of the time she does fine, but there have been serious fights with some of our dogs, including one incident that resulted in another dog suffering a significant eye injury. She was rescued from a rural Arizona property where more than 30 dogs lived without running water or electricity. Personality: Girlie is a gentle, easygoing girl who enjoys taking life at her own pace. She is a couch potato who spends her days testing out all the comfy nap spots in the house and yard, and playing with every chew toy she can find. Girlie gets along well with all people and dogs of all sizes, but isn’t compatible with cats. Health: Girlie is overweight and needs an adopter committed to helping her safely lose weight. Getting back to a healthy weight is essential for her longterm health and quality of life. Girlie has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Abigail is about 4 months old (DOB 7/1/26), spayed, up-to-date on vaccines. She is described by her owner as a beagle mix who is easy-going, friendly, happy, goofy. She loves attention and is very sweet and affectionate. Abigail is a great dog but unfortunately the resident senior Chihuahua is not a fan of sharing the house and has bit Abigail multiple times. She travels well in the car, has been exposed to crate training (but not fully crate trained), is house broken, loves to walk, loves to chew on things, and plays with the neighbor`s dogs daily! She has not been around cats, but is good with kids 3+ years old (has not been around younger kids). She will lick kids` faces and wag her tail. She can be a little hesitant of new people at first but warms up when the adults approach her.While we are sad that she needs to be rehomed, we appreciate her owner`s dedication in ensuring the senior dog remains in the home he has known and recognizes that it is best for Abigail if she gets a new home with people (and maybe other dogs) that love her without biting her :-).
