Meet Kkaedongl! He is the sweetest boyl! He is a 6 month old that was rescued from a kill shelter before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade. Meet BROWNIE  A gentle soul still waiting for his miracle Brownie’s life almost ended before it ever truly began. He and his two siblings were rescued from Contra Costa Animal Services just in time before being euthanized. Three innocent lives hanging in the balance… and thankfully, all three were saved. One sibling has already found a loving home. Now Brownie and his brother Chiquis are still waiting, hoping their turn will come soon. Brownie is a 1-year-old Beagle mix, weighs about 35 lbs, and is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He is an incredibly sweet, gentle boy who gets along beautifully with other dogs and is friendly with everyone he meets. This precious pup has done nothing wrong — yet he almost lost his life. Brownie deserves so much more than a shelter kennel. He deserves warmth, safety, love, and a family who will never give up on him. In October 2024, WEACT and 14 other rescue organizations headed to a puppy mill site in Busan that had over 550 dogs. This horrendous site was also located next to a dog meat farm. The site, where many animals were slaughtered, bore horrifying traces on the various machines and tools. In a place where death is a daily reality, Bert was rescued there.

Gizmo is an 8-year-old sweetheart who has been a beloved part of our family since we adopted him as a puppy from a shelter in Castaic, CA. He is affectionate, loyal, and full of personality. Gizmo loves nothing more than chasing a ball and will happily play fetch for hours. After playtime, he's happiest curled up next to his favorite person for snuggles and companionship. Recently, our blended family brought two dogs together under one roof, and unfortunately Gizmo has not adjusted well to sharing his space with another dog, especially one much larger than him. Because we love him and want him to have the best quality of life, we have made the difficult decision to find him a home where he can thrive. Gizmo would do best as the only pet in a home where he can receive the attention and affection he enjoys. He is looking for a loving family to be his forever best friend.
