Story
She’s a high energy dog that isn’t too keen about being alone. Her nose trumps everything. She is stubborn and will ignore you for an interesting scent. She knows how to sit, lay and spin. She’s a goofball with a sassy attitude and loves to play. It’s hard to get her to eat sometimes in the morning. She loves to sunbathe and isn’t afraid of thunder or fireworks.

Story
Meet Cliff, the little survivor! Cliff was on death's door when the stars aligned and he ended up at exactly the right place at exactly the right time: off a rural interstate in the path of an avid animal rescue volunteer on a road trip. When his now-foster mama spotted him, he was clinging to life, his ribs protruding from his tiny, battered body. His emotional wounds were as evident as the physical ones - he was so afraid and mistrusting of people that only the overwhelming temptation of food (a peanut butter Clif bar) convinced him to come to the safety of her arms. Not thinking twice, she scooped his sick, injured, emaciated, trembling little body into her car and got him to a vet. Unchipped with no one searching for him, he was accepted into rescue to begin his journey towards recovery... and several months later... LOOK AT HIM NOW!  Cliff is now healed physically & emotionally, fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, heart worm negative, fecal clear, and very well socialized with friends of all shapes and sizes (humans, dogs, livestock - you name it!). While it's evident Cliff was never a beloved member of a family, Cliff is making great strides in training, so he would benefit from a consistent schedule and an adopter committed to continue working with him on his obedience. He is mostly potty, crate, leash, and off-leash trained, and has fully mastered the game of fetch!  Estimated to be only 1 year old, Cliff has a full life ahead of him to bury his past trauma under layers and layers of adventure and fun! Cliff's ideal adopter is active and outdoorsy with plenty of time to play and a heart big enough to continue showing him that people are kind. Are you that person? If so, apply today and ring in the new year with a best friend at your side. January 22, 2024, 12:06 am

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Hi I’m Susie! My foster parents call me Sweet Susie Q. I am a smiley girl, as you can see in my video of me showing off my smile abilities. I’m an approx. 5-year-old, 43- lb. female beagle mix with a heart of gold. I’m a medium energy girl and I’ve done well with all the dogs I’ve met, although pushy dogs scare me a bit. I am also good with cats and kids! I am house broken and haven’t had a single accident in my foster home. Are you looking for a gardening buddy or outdoor adventure dog? I’m your gal! My favorite thing to do is follow my foster mom around the back yard while she gardens. I walk well on a leash, although going in a straight line is a work in progress. But I do love a good walk and then enjoy hanging out on the couch. I also ride well in a car. While I’m gaining more and more confidence being inside, the outdoors is still where I love running around and just being able to be "me," so I would love for my forever person to love the outdoors too. And it's a must that I have a secure fenced-in yard. I’m a shy but loving girl, and once I trust you, I’ll be your shadow. I do well sleeping in a crate, but I prefer to sleep in bed with my people. Susie is heart worm positive at this time, and is on the slow kill method, which we can explain that process to any interested applicant. She can enjoy regular activities. Heart worm disease is contracted from an infected mosquito and can not be transmitted to another dog. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and think you have the perfect forever home for me, complete an app and tell us more about you. June 14, 2024, 5:43 pm

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Winnie, aka Winnie Bear, is an approx. 7yo possible Basset Hound/Beagle mix. This sweet girl came to our rescue as an owner surrender to a shelter, depressed, severely obese at 46 lbs., could barely walk and her skin was a mess. Now, after many weeks of proper food, exercise including hydrotherapy, she not only walks but also runs. And she is on no pain meds. She is down to 38 lbs, with her ideal weight being around 32-33 lbs. Her skin has drastically improved and she’s now a happy girl. She loves following her people around the house, and can’t wait for belly rubs, but she especially enjoys basking in the sun or chilling in the shade, taking in all the smells, so for that reason we are requiring a fenced-in yard for her. She is not a digger. Winnie is currently in a home with small and larger dogs, as well as a cat and gets along great with all. She would also do well as the queen of her castle getting all the attention. She walks well on leash with short walks in the coolest part of the day with her short stubby legs, but be prepared for many stops to smell along the way. Her favorite toy is a Benebone or an antler, and she will also play with squeaky toys and rope toys; but plushies get destroyed in no time. She rides perfectly in a car and does well at bath time. Winnie is VERY treat motivated, knows “sit” command, is house trained, is not destructive, and sleeps in her bed beside her foster parents throughout the night. She has the hound dog “bay” which she excitedly sounds off while her meals are being prepared. Her perfect forever home will be one where her people have hound experience and continue to help her reach her weight loss goal - this is a must. She does need someone who is able to physically lift her since she can not get in and out of the car on her own. She requires an inexpensive thyroid pill once a day, as well as a daily Glucosamine Chondroitin supplement. Winnie is ready for her forever family, could that be you? If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you are the perfect forever family for Winnie, please complete an app and tell us more about you. June 14, 2024, 5:43 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Duke is a very sweet dog, who needs a quiet household. It takes him a while to become acclimated to new people. He is currently in a foster home with a wonderful man who came to visit him here at the shelter multiple times to spend some time with him before he was ready to take him home. Duke is very happy in his home and loves to explore the yard. He has discovered that Duke does not like to be left alone for very long. He does not tear things up or destroy anything, he just gets nervous and shakes when he's alone for an extended period of time. We would like his permanent home to have someone home most of the time (work from home or retired) to keep him company during the day. Since he does not do well meeting new people he should not be walked in a busy community where strangers might want to come up and pet him. He will either need a backyard where he can safely run and play or live somewhere there is minimal walking traffic. Duke is a good dog and it is definitely worth the extra time it takes to get to know him :)  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 14, 2024, 6:29 pm
