Story
Meet Maybelle-a gentle senior beagle looking for a soft place to land. I was originally adopted from ARPO in 2013. I lived with my human until my human passed away in 2025. Indianapolis Animal Care and Control took me in and contacted ARPO. I was very lucky that my original foster was able to take me back. It took a few months for me to get ready to be adopted. I had to go on a diet. I did need a complete dental work up because my teeth were not the greatest. But I did keep more teeth than my foster mom thought. I am a sweet, soulful senior beagle. As noted above, I lived with the same person my entire life. I do get a little confused with all of the changes. But my foster mom says that I have a big heart and quiet devotion to the people around me. My foster mom says that I am a classic beagle: gentle, affectionate, and happiest when I am near my humans. I enjoy leisurely sniff-filled walks, long naps in sunny spots, and curling up beside my human while reading or watching TV. I am not demanding (unless my human is late for my meal-times). I am just grateful for companionship and kindness. I have wonderful house manners. I prefer a calm, predictable environment. Maybelle would do best with someone who understands the beauty of a senior dog: the slower pace, the wisdom in her eyes, and the deep gratitude she has for love. She is friendly with people and lived peacefully as a single dog. She would probably do well with another mellow canine friend. In her foster home, she lives with other more active dogs. Maybelle has already loved deeply and lost and now she is hoping for a second chance-a quiet home, a comfy bed, and someone who will love her for the rest of her days. In return, Maybelle promises unwavering loyalty, gentle companionship and the kind of love only a senior dog can give. If you believe that every chapter matters--and the golden years can be the most meaningful--Maybelle is waiting for you.   If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website at arporescue.org to learn more about our adoption process and complete our adoption application. ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis. We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.

Story
Ryder was saved after his owner threatened to shoot him for not being a good hunting dog. We had planned to keep him as a buddy for our beagle (our other passed away), however with the number of dogs in our rescue, it is only fair to Ryder to have a home of his own. He is a wonderful dog with typical beagle behavior. He was abused so I would not suggest small children or children who do not understand to pet softly. He loves to be loved on and is understanding that he is safe now. He is not a hunting dog and needs to be indoor. He is full-blooded but he did not come with papers (if that is important).

Story
We adopted Otis when he was 7 months old and he is now 10.5. He is a very good boy overall but still has a lot of energy for being a senior! He is very handsome with beautiful coloring and photogenic. He loves walks and being active. He is very potty trained. Ideally he needs a yard with a fence. He unfortunately is afraid of strollers and has gotten a lot less activity over the last 3 years after we had our baby. I am now pregnant again and we are looking to rehome Otis to a place where he can have a lot of attention and love. He has always been very good to our son and never aggressive toward him. Every once in a while he shows territory over his food. He is good to other dogs and never barks at dogs or humans on walks. We currently groom him once every 6 weeks for a good bath and nail trim. He used to be crate trained but he would often bark a lot while we were gone and now leave him out.

Story
This adventurous outdoor dog is on a journey of learning leash and house training. While he may be a bit shy and less socialized, his gentle spirit truly shines through. He loves to explore, although he can feel a bit uncertain when he's in a tight spot. With a little patience and understanding, he has so much potential to blossom! ADOPTION FEE: LOCAL FREE NON-LOCAL FREE All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. If possible a heartworm test will be done and if negative the dog will be started on heartworm prevention. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped. All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds. We do not require in most cases that adopters bring all their families members and dogs for a meet and greet. But we do highly encourage it. We are happy to introduce the new dog to your dog(s) at the shelter. No appointment necessary. We do offer home trials of dogs over 6 months of age for about a week. You will not need to pay the adoption fee (spay neuter deposit) ahead of time, but if you decide to adopt you will need to return to the shelter to complete the paperwork and pay the adoption deposit. If you do not wish to complete the adoption, you can bring the dog back at any time during normal business hours during your home trial period. We do not allow after hours drop off.

Story
{Shar Pei and Beagle Mix} NINI is bold, athletic, selectively sweet natured, gives kisses, prefers to sniff faces up close, sneaks in snuggles, and enjoys hip/bum scratches. Nini takes to her Beagle mix genes more in looks and behavior. She enjoys doing parkour around the house. Translation: she will need someone who can match her energy and be consistent with ongoing training, maybe consider introducing her to dog sports or scent tracking. Nini has already been spayed and microchipped (with lifetime registration). Our goal is to match Nini with a forever family by March 2026.
