HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email Brian at bmadison@arl-iowa.org.---- Very affectionate and gentle boy with some special needs; his foster family describes him as the sweetest dog in the world - Has a condition called cerebellar hypoplasia, which affects his coordination and mobility, but he is able to do everyday things without much issue; looking for a home where he will not have access to stairs or steps and a family who can provide other accommodations to help keep him safe - Loves cuddling and has been welcoming to everyone who has visited his foster home - Calm on car rides, likes going on walks, and enjoys outings in his stroller - Loves chewing on his toys and is good about not chewing things that aren't his - Has made progress on potty training in his foster home, and has previously had some success with potty pads, but will need some help from his new family to get all the way there - Plays gently with children but is a bit wobbly, so he'll do best with calm, gentle children who understand that he has some special needs- Really loves gentle play with lower-to-medium-energy dogs; has become friends with the 3 small dogs in his foster home and is best buddies with a more playful foster dog in the home- Will be a wonderful, loving companion for a person or family who can accommodate his needs; he is truly the sweetest boy! All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 22.9 Age: 2yrs 2mths 2wks

Story
Introducing Gambit - the name's not just a coincidence; it's a testament to my ability to shape my destiny. Just like my Marvel/X-Men namesake, I've overcome my past and now look forward to a brilliantly bright future. My journey started in a rather somber place - a lonely field next to a gas station. Thankfully, kind souls would drop by, leaving me food and their hopes for a better life. One day, a persistent and resourceful lady decided to play her "pawn" and orchestrated my escape from that grim existence. Since then, I've been living with her and her doggy (and human) family. But now, I'm eagerly searching for my own forever family. Let's talk quirks. I'm a cheerful guy, but I've got some personal space boundaries. I'm protective of my face, so a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids is my ideal match. I'm also a bit of a goofball and adore the company of other dogs. Now, I might not instantly become your best buddy; I take time to trust and get comfortable in my surroundings. But trust me, the patience will be worth it. I'm brimming with love and loyalty, just waiting for the right family to share it with. Here's the good news - I'm house and crate trained, proving that, yes, young dogs can indeed learn new tricks. Oh, and there's more - I'm pretty chill around cats, though a gentle introduction is wise. And I've been curious and respectful around a human baby, so that's a plus. One thing to note, though, is that I've had some reservations around men. Despite two years together, I haven't quite warmed up to my human's fianc and have snapped at him a few times. So, it might be best if I find a home without men. During a short stay with Kathy, I was a little shy but kept to myself. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a dash of X-Men flair and you're ready to give me the chance I deserve, let's make it happen. I can't wait to meet you and start this exciting new chapter together! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Story
Hi there! I'm Evelynn and I'm looking for a place to call my own. I'm around 8 years old with your typical hound dog attitude: sassy, playful, and vocal! I'm a loyal girly and would make the best addition to any family as I get along well with all. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2418656##
