If you have ANY QUESTIONS or are truly interested in adopting any animal from PAW Animal Shelter Please, fillout an adoption application FIRST!   WE are a high intake No Kill Shelter ran by a staff of 4 and do not always have time to answer every question asked by so many. If you are a good fit for the animal you are interested in -we will call to speak with you, If we feel you are not a good fit , we will contact you about other pets that may be a good fit for your home. Many people are losing the opportunity to adopt the animal they want because they fail to put in an application and the pet was adopted before we could answer your email. .If you have applied for an animal in our facility and have not received a response within 7 days, PLEASE call or contact us again. Though we do our best in trying to answer all emails in a timely manner, sometimes things get away from us, get lost or misplaced. It is never our intention to ignore a request about an adoptable animal in our facility. Sandy Brown, Director, PAW Animal Shelter 319-372-2274 ##2651273##

Story
- Does well on a leash - May take some time to warm up to new dogs and may prefer some dogs over others; would be most comfortable with a slow introduction to new dogs (dog intro recommended) - Needs a teens and up homeAll adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Tri Color Weight: 30.5 Age: 2yrs 0mths 1wks

Story
Cooper is a 6-year-old male Beagle mix with a heart as big as his soulful eyes. He came to us after the passing of his owner, and understandably, he was quite confused and upset at first. After spending the last several years in a loving home, shelter life has been an adjustment—but Cooper is slowly settling in, and we’d love nothing more than to see him back where he truly belongs: in a home. This handsome tricolor boy is a classic Beagle in both looks and personality. He’s currently a bit overweight, but we’re helping him work toward a healthier figure. He’s also a little lumpy thanks to some benign fatty masses, which we think only add to his unique charm. Cooper absolutely adores people and is a total glutton for both food and affection. He greets his favorite humans with the happiest little trots, enthusiastic tail wags, and even full-on butt wiggles. He’s looking for a calm, relaxed environment where he can enjoy his upcoming golden years in comfort and peace—preferably with a cozy couch and a loving human by his side. He does well with other dogs and is mostly indifferent to them after a polite sniff inspection. Cooper is also good with cats and kids, making him a great fit for a variety of households. Like any true Beagle, he can be a bit stubborn at times—but that just comes with the territory. Cooper is potty-trained and crate-trained, and would thrive in a home looking to welcome a chill, almost-senior companion who’s happiest lounging, snacking, and soaking up all the love life has to offer. If you’re searching for a laid-back best friend to share quiet moments and comfy naps with, Cooper might just be the boy for you.

Story
Melvin is a young beagle mix who we are learning more about every day! He recently went on a home day trip and we learned he is good with kids and would probably do well with another dog and could coexist with cats! He was in the home for approximately 6 hours with no potty accidents.**More on Melvin---he went on another visit for a few days and we learned A LOT! He IS housetrained for sure, will go to the door and wait to go out. He knows some basic commands - sit, wait, down and is very smart and easily trainable. He got a bath and did wonderfully with that. He loves Kongs and fetch and zoomies:) We also learned that he has severe separation anxiety when he can see you but can`t be near you, so probably not best for him to be in an apartment! He can open cupboard doors, jump baby gates, needs tough toys (or he`ll tear them up) and would benefit from a fenced-in yard as he can escape his collar. He is a wonderful dog in many ways, but needs the right family to be active with and train him right from wrong. He is still a dream pup - another head-scratcher as to why he is in a shelter; but he won`t be for long. He`d make someone a fabulous family pet!

Story
Bella is a sweet and affectionate girl, as long as she's the only female dog. She is ok with male dogs. Her favorite thing is belly rubs. She loves attention. She would do best with a fenced yard, and a calm home. She doesn't like being caught off guard. She is a very loyal and devoted dog.
