Meet Max, an 8-year, 8-month-old Beagle mix who weighs 24 pounds and is ready to find a family of his own. Max came into rescue with his mom after they were surrendered to the Cedar Rapids shelter. Despite the changes in his life, Max has remained a happy, social guy who is always glad to see his people and loves being part of the action. Max does well with other dogs and would be happy sharing his home with a canine companion. His favorite place is wherever his humans are. Whether you're relaxing at home, spending time outside, or just going about your day, Max would much rather be right there with you. At 8 years old, Max has left the puppy stage behind, but he has plenty of love and personality to share. He's looking for a family who will appreciate a sweet, social companion and give him the loving home he deserves. If you're looking for a happy boy with a big heart and a serious appreciation for people, Max would love to meet you! Hi. I'm Bill the Beagle. I'm a sweet boy. I sometimes take some time to get acquainted with other dogs, but once I do - all I want to do is play, play, play. I'm also special. You see, I have heartworms. Polk County Humane Society will pay for the treatment, but I'll need to have some special care for a few months (antibiotics, steriod pills, injections) and I'll need to be kept relatively calm after my treatments. I will be worth it and I'd even love it if you'd foster me during my treatment period. The injections will likely need to be done in Bolivar, MO, so might require 3 trips to the vet there. Just to keep in mind if you think I might be the best beagle in the world for you. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! Apollo is a sweet, goofy boy who is happiest when he's right by his person. This affectionate guy is a true velcro dog who loves being included in whatever you're doing. Whether he's following you around, curling up on the couch, or settling into your lap for some belly rubs, Apollo simply enjoys being close to his people. Apollo came to AWF after his owner left him and another dog behind with a roommate. The remaining roommate cared for both dogs for as long as they could, but eventually had to make the difficult decision to surrender them. Through no fault of his own, Apollo found himself looking for a new home. This goofy guy has a wonderful mix of playful curiosity and laid-back charm. He walks nicely on a leash, takes treats politely, knows how to sit, and is perfectly content being a couch potato when the day calls for relaxing.
