While he may be a little shy when meeting new people and experiencing new situations, once he feels comfortable, his sweet personality begins to shine! Mickey is looking for a calm, patient home where he can continue building his confidence at his own pace. Having another small to medium-sized dog in the home is a must for Mickey. He takes great comfort in canine companionship and has enjoyed living with other dogs. A confident dog friend will help him blossom, we have seen this firsthand when he attends doggie daycare and becomes the life of the party with his dog friends! Because Mickey has shown some impressive climbing skills, he will also need a physically fenced yard with fencing taller than 4 feet. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where he did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age, but has grown a lot in his foster home; still may struggle with new situations, show uncertainty with everyday objects, need help understanding leashes, and need patience and structure with housetraining- Will benefit from a calm, predictable home with patient people who will let him go at his own pace and provide gentle, positive reinforcement to help build confidence over time - Has a spot on the couch in his foster home and spends a lot of time cuddled up or napping there- Still getting used to life in a home, and startles easily with fast movements - Has been getting used to potty pads and will need help in his new home to fully get the hang of potty training- Not sure about strangers yet but has been becoming more comfortable with his foster family, including their preschool-age child- Loves being outside in the front yard with his foster family's dogs and has started happily running, jumping, and playing with them, getting his zoomies out; would benefit from having a friendly, confident dog in his new home to help show him the ropes The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed.
