Story
Beagle Bailey is an adorable 5-year old male Beagle who was brought to the HSOV on March 22, 2026 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff after he was picked up on Poplar Street in Belpre Ohio. Bailey was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This good-looking boy has a stunning chocolate brown/dark tan/white coat, brown freckles on his legs, a long tail, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with soulful brown eyes, a milk chocolate nose, a slender muzzle, and extra-large floppy ears which frame his face. These photos were taken on March 24, 2026 while Beagle Bailey was relaxing in his soft bed. This sweet boy was the perfect gentleman and posed like a 'pro' for his preliminary pictures that day. Bailey has a quiet/gentle, easygoing personality and appears to be good with the other dogs who are housed nearby. Beagle Bailey weighs 35 lbs and is the perfect size for a soulmate/companion to spend your days/nights with. Bailey was 'favoring' one of his back legs when he entered our shelter so it's possible he could have an injury to that leg. Bailey will be seen by a veterinarian if deemed necessary. Beagle Bailey was tested on March 25, 2026 ( SNAP 4Dx Plus Test Kit). The results were that he was negative for Heartworm, Ehrlichia and Anaplasma .. But that Bailey was positive for Lyme Disease and will be given treatment. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Beagle Bailey was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold (and posted on Facebook) so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for Bailey, so he is now available for foster/adoption. Update: Beagle Bailey went home with a foster family on April 17, 2026 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered. Beagle Bailey came back to our shelter on April 30, 2026 since the other dog in his foster home was jealous of Beagle Bailey .. And Beagle Bailey was chasing the family's indoor cat inside the house. So another lucky family will have an opportunity to foster- or foster-to-adopt Beagle Bailey. We've learned that Beagle Bailey is good with other dogs as well as children, but he is not good with cats. He is housetrained, will dig in the dirt when given the opportunity, and he may be a flight risk. Beagle Bailey is super friendly and LOVES his people friends. Update: Beagle Bailey went home with a wonderful foster family on May 6, 2026 so that he could enjoy the comfort/hospitality of their home instead of being in a shelter floor crate while he awaits his forever home. Beagle Bailey is still available for adoption. He will be neutered before being adopted by his new family, but he could be fostered-to-adopt while he awaits his neuter procedure. If you would be interested in giving Beagle Bailey his forever home, please complete and HSOV Foster/Adoption application for approval so that we may arrange a meet-and-greet with his foster family. Update: Beagle Bailey has an approved adoption hold as of May 15, 2026.

Story
Meet Bongo! Bongo was surrendered to us because his family was moving and could not take Bongo with them. Bongo is a perfect gentleman, ready to find his furever home. He is a sweet, playful guy and made fast friends with staff. Bongo's previous owner said he is a well mannered boy and is potty trained and crate trained but can be trusted out of the crate when alone. Bongo previously lived with other dogs, though he prefers a more relaxed companion rather than a playful puppy. Bongo's previous owner said he does well with older children, but may knock younger children over as he is excitable with people. Bongo is just an all around good boy! He is affectionate, playful, and is happy to go anywhere and everywhere with his person. If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in to do a meet and greet before taking Bongo home. If you are interested in meeting Bongo, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit. Story
Hello! My name is Boone and I have been at the shelter since 2024. I am considered a senior, but don't let that fool you- I can still get going when I want to! I love to play chase or fetch in the run, and my favorite thing of all is a walk. I do very well on the leash and have excellent manners. I know when it's time to settle down, though, and on those days you can find me stretched out (and snoring) on my nice bed. I can run and play when I want to get silly, but I am still older, and due to my age, I would like a home without younger kids. Maybe we could be retirement buddies? My favorite toys are squeaky balls and stuffed squeaky toys- although the stuffed squeaky toys never seem to last long around me. My favorite enrichment is the stuffed cardboard boxes and paper towel rolls. I have been to lots of events and places in my time here and am always a superstar. I love meeting people and do well in the car too. I'm ready to hop in one and ride away from here! I am very affectionate, too, I like belly rubs and like to lean against you. I am a "people person" and have never met a stranger! I'll get right in your lap and enjoy cuddles. When it comes to other dogs, though, I like things my way and I'm old enough that I've earned the right not to share! I don't like it when other dogs get in my personal space- after all, who likes a stranger in their face? I would like to have a place - and a person- that's all my own.

Story
Brownie (aka Bubba) is a cute 6-year old male Miniature Pinscher/Beagle mix who was surrendered to the HSOV on March 6, 2026 for a heartbreaking reason since his owner has been hospitalized and is no longer able to care for his beloved pet. Brownie may look familiar to many of our HSOV volunteers and Facebook fans since he was adopted from HSOV in December 2021. Brownie has enjoyed 4-years and four months with his adoptive owner and surely misses being in a loving home with the person who adored him. Brownie has a black-and-brown short smooth coat with a smidgeon of white on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable (rather mischievous-looking) face with a tan mask, a slender muzzle, and magnificent large floppy ears which frame his face. This little guy is full of playful puppy-like energy. Brownie adores his adult people friends, but he doesn't do well with other dogs, cats, or young children. Brownie has been kept indoors. Brownie weighs approximately 21 lbs and walks fairly well on leash. He has already been neutered. These photos were taken on March 6, 2026 when HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Lynn Moore helped Brownie with his 'big boy' outdoor pictures and gave him extra attention while telling him what a good boy he was. Since Brownie has already been neutered, he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application. We'd love to see him back in a home environment instead of in a small shelter floor crate. Update:: Brownie went home with a foster family on March 20, 2026 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Brownie was returned at closing time on March 20, 2026 because he was nipping/growling at a grandchild in his foster family's home. Brownie is NOT good with other dogs, cats, or children and prefers to be an 'only child/dog' in his adult family's home. Update: Brownie went home with a foster family on April 11, 2026 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Brownie was returned by his foster family on April 14, 2026 because he wouldn't eat for some reason.
