Meet Parka 🤍 Parka is a 45-pound, middle-aged beagle mix who has been waiting over two years for her forever home, continuously overlooked because she is a timid girl. We know her person is out there. When Parka first entered the shelter, she was labeled “reactive” and came very close to losing her life due to her fear of people and other dogs. What no one knew at the time was that she was pregnant and nearing labor which explained her fearfulness. Shortly after arriving in foster care, she gave birth. Despite everything, she was a devoted, loving mom. Her one surviving puppy has long since been adopted—but Parka is still waiting. Since then, Parka has overcome so much. She completed heartworm treatment and had a tumor removed, and today she is fully vetted, healthy, and ready for a fresh start. She has gained a ton of confidence in her foster home and even did a board and train with a professional trainer to learn basic commands and build more confidence. Parka is a really good dog. She’s gentle, sweet, and thrives in a calm home. She loves other dogs and gains so much confidence from them, so a home with another friendly dog is a must for her. With her foster mom, she is affectionate and loyal. She can be a little shy with new people (especially men), but with patience and kindness, she warms up beautifully. She might always remain timid with men, so any men - if any - in her forever home have to be extra patient with her. She is crate trained, potty trained, and does great in the home. She's gained amazing leash skills and now goes out and about with her foster mom and fur sibling. After everything she’s been through, Parka is simply looking for peace, love, and someone who will make her feel safe forever. She is believed to be a beagle mix and is fully grown at about 35 pounds — a perfect, compact companion for someone looking for a gentle, loyal dog. Josie has picked up home life beautifully. She’s fully crate trained, potty trained, and leash trained, and she knows commands like sit, wait, stay, and more. She truly craves love from humans and seeks it out, wanting to stay close and soak up affection once she feels connected. Because she didn’t get to socialize much during her early developmental stage, Josie can be shy with new people and new situations at first. But with patience, calm voices, and a soft approach, she warms up quickly and becomes incredibly affectionate. She’s also dog friendly, enjoying play time or giving her canine friends gentle face kisses, and loves peaceful days spent lounging, walking, or being near her person. Estelle is a sweet, soulful lady with the most loving personality. She is truly one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet, a classic velcro dog who just wants to be by your side. Whether it is a nice walk around the neighborhood or curling up on the couch for a cozy afternoon, Estelle is happiest when she is with her people. Like many beagles, she can get a little distracted on walks, especially if a squirrel or another dog catches her eye, and may let out her signature bay, but with a bit of continued leash work she will thrive. Estelle is ready to be someone’s loyal companion and constant sidekick. She has so much love to give and is just waiting for her forever home. Fievel came to us with two large masses on his back. We had them removed when he was neutered and happy to report the masses were benign! His scars are healing up and we’re working on helping him shed a few lbs. He loves to lay outside in the sun and sleep in his foster mom’s bed each night. He does great with other dogs and enjoys his daily walks with his canine friends. Fievel is calm yet stubborn. He is quiet inside and outside will sound the alarm if there is anything that catches his attention in the yard. Your typical complex, yet highly lovable beagle! Siri found herself stuck in a rural shelter in rough shape. She has proven to be a resilient, kind, little ray of sunshine. She has come a long way as her skin issues have resolved and understandably is feeling much better these days. What a beauty! She is playful, affectionate, and will sleep through the night curled up on the pillow next to you. She loves other dogs, playing with toys, and receiving treats! In typical beagle fashion, she can be sound asleep in another room and hear you walk into the kitchen and assume you’re getting something for her to eat. Rose has not had an easy life but it's amazing what some love can do. In a short time, she has found her spark! You can find her playing with her foster siblings or some toys. When she came to us, her teeth were in horrible shape and she ended up having 16 teeth pulled. But man does she feel better now! **This dog is heartworm positive and will be treated by the rescue and will be available for foster to adopt for a local family in or near Charleston, SC that is comfortable with the restriction requirements for the duration of treatment.
