FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks! --- Meet June. She and her brother came to us as bottle babies. Mommy was a larger breed dog and the puppies were born in a local shelter. It was surprising there were only two, but they were healthy and getting fed by their mom for almost a week. Sadly - mommy's health took a turn and it was decided to pull the puppies and get them into a foster. They were big babies, at 9 weeks, she was 14 pounds! She was born March 2nd. We were surprised by the DNA, half Malinois / half 13 other breeds. DNA suggested they could be between 50-80#, like we said, she's a chunk. June's mom was completely black - so she inherited part of her coloring. June is definitely the lover of the pair. Being a bottle baby - she has been very socialized. Her first foster had a toddler, other dogs. At 6 weeks, she went to a foster whose very friendly orange cat became a constant companion to the pair. After her brother was recently adopted, she went to a different foster home to learn crate training (doing great) and all the puppy things. She's even walking on a leash around their property. Being part Malinois, we are looking for homes that have previous GSD or similar experience. She will likely need a firm handler and an active home. She's super sweet, smart and going to make a great companion. She is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated to appropriate age. She will need more puppy shots, including rabies when she's older. Puppies are good with dogs, cats, kids and more. Being a puppy, they will need lots of training, including housebreaking. Remember, puppies are cute, but they have sharp teeth, need to be fed 3 times a day and poop... a lot! Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption. Save-A-Mutt requires a training contract and refundable deposit (depending on previous dog experience) on this particular puppy. It's Easy. You pick a trainer in your area, and upon completion of a 6+ week training class, we will refund the deposit. Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood. Adoption fee is $525. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible. Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home. Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.

Story
About AstroAstro is a handsome, high-energy three-year-old Belgian Malinois with a strong and intelligent presence. While he’s considered relatively mellow for his breed, he still shows the classic Malinois traits—active, alert, and eager to engage. Astro is friendly with people and is reportedly housebroken, with at least basic training, including how to sit.He would do best in a home without cats and with children over the age of 8. Astro is looking for a dog-savvy family familiar with the needs of the Malinois breed—someone who can provide structure, exercise, and mental stimulation to help him thrive. We estimate his weight to be between 60–65 pounds. With the right environment and guidance, Astro has the potential to be a loyal and rewarding companion. No kids under 8No cats

About VelmaVelma is a beautiful Belgian Malinois, believed to be about one year old. She may be shy when meeting new people, but she quickly reveals her sweet and affectionate nature once she feels comfortable. Velma is also very intelligent—she already knows how to sit and will happily show off her good manners when offered a treat. She has a bit of a mischievous side and is quite the “Houdini,” with an impressive ability to climb fences. Because of this, Velma will need a securely enclosed yard with at least a 6-foot fence. She is also best suited to a home without cats. With patience, structure, and the right environment, Velma has all the makings of a devoted and engaging companion.ConsiderationsNo cats6-foot fence

Story
Fenyx is a total love bug with his human and just wants to please! He wants to just be near you - total Velcro dog - he does the best contact heel, gives the best kisses and hugs!He is super smart but such a wiggle butt when learning, so eager, such a puppy with high energy - it's adorable and hilarious! He learns quickly and it's really fun to watch him grow and thrive! He has high food drive and works super well for it! Because he has high prey drive, we think his toy drive can be built but food is definitely his go to!We hope to find a forever human for him who likes to mold their pup into a great canine citizen!  What he knows: Name House manners Potty trained Sit, Down, Place, Crate, Stay, Bed, Here, Stand, Front, Leave it esp around prey [all in progress vs prooved] .  He's being trained in German mostly but once dogs learn the behavior it's not that hard to change the language.  Obedience: Heeling on both sides and Loose Leash Walking Touch command [in progress] Recall / Off leash work - doing well but at this time he can only go where he won't run into stranger dogs, however he can recall from prey unless he's 100% committed Ecollar conditioned Thresholds Crate trained What he is actively working on Calm behavior and reducing impulsivity and reactivity Settling Trusting new handlers Independence Muzzle Training Who he is good with and Where he needs more work Dogs: He is great with his foster sisters! With proper, slow introductions, he CAN integrate into a home with dogs. He is not really a playmate. His foster sister worked on him for almost two month before he finally played with her. He has a bit of a rough style but takes corrections well. He defers to his foster siblings and has never shown any resource guarding or reactivity to them! Stranger Dogs: He is reactive to dogs he doesn't know. He has been working on this through board and train and ongoing. He has been part of group training to work on being ok around dogs and has done very well. He will need continued work on this.  People: He LOVES them but he cannot be trusted when he is overstimulated! He has shown that when he is too triggered he panic bites [never punctured skin]. He has been working on this in Board and Train and his foster has continued the work. He has been able to be handled by others and has NEVER touched his foster mom, which tells us that once he trusts, he trusts and loves forever! He is a dog that his human has to read well, manage his arousal level while also continuing to work on it via exposure.  Fenyx loves affection, pets, cuddles, hugs from his person! He is the best weighted blanket, the best dancer and hugger! He has the sweetest face that you can't resist! He uses his legs in the funniest ways. He will just lean on you b/c he knows you're his rock! He loves to be close and touching. He can sometimes be a trip hazard but could also be an amazing contact heeler! He's the quintessential VELCRO dog! He might enjoy scent work or NASDA as he does not let go of a scent when he catches it! His foster took him to barn hunt and NASDA intro and once he caught a wiff of the rats, he was very interested. He will need to learn to focus and then can likely hone that skill. He is also getting a hang of agility. Foster mom has a few things in the yard and he has no issues going over the ramp, up the ladder and through the tunnel! Ideal Home Dedicated and Experienced home! He would love someone who is excited about training sessions, sets good boundaries and takes him on adventures in the forest vs the city! He is not a party boy, family dog or Golden Retriever-type dog. He is more like a soldier who needs instructions and wants to work or he becomes dysregualated! He really just needs someone who is willing to put in the time! Less being in a home would be ideal but he had never an issue with foster's partner He would thrive in a place with property to run and explore. He requires much more work to be able to frequent busy trails He has A LOT of prey drive - definitely will keep you safe from squirrles - but we recommend No children or cats, small dogs or prey animals in the home.  His foster experiences him as the sweetest, most affectionate and cuddly dog there is BUT he just doesn't know what to do when he's overwhelmed He will need a human who really gets the Malinois mind in an insecure body! He needs someone who understands a rescue Malinois! He needs someone who is willing to take on a challenge and run with it because it will make a difference in a dog's life! He needs a lot of boundaries, structure, confidence building and proper introduction to the world. What you get in return is everlasting love and loyalty! He will do anything you ask, trust you and be your die hard partner in crime Cute Anectodes from Foster Mom "Fenyx thinks he is a lap dog and will find a way to make it work""He is such an eager pup...he wants to do right and is so excited when we train""Fenyx has learned that he has to wait on his bed during meal prep and often will put himself there""He loves being touched and will seek out my hand, just putting his muzzle in it, holding it there gently [sometimes less gentle]""Sometimes, he just nuzzles into my chest, lets out a big sigh and just looks at peace being so close and comforted""He at times looks like a deer hopping through tall grass which is the cutest thing in a 65# boy""He gives the best kisses and is a great dance partner""Sometimes he nibbles on me when he is feeling spunky" Fenyx has so much LOVE to give and is just waiting for his furever match! Would that be you?   We really hope YOU are out there!  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application! Story
Meet Mara a beautiful Belgian Malinois girl who is equal parts adventure buddy and cuddle bug! This sweet pup is looking for a home committed to continuing her training and helping her grow into the incredible dog she is becoming. She’s a confident little lady who absolutely thrives around other dogs and loves having canine friends around. She’s also doing great living with cats, chickens, goats, and other dogs, making her quite the farm-life superstar. She loves being included in whatever is going on and is happiest when she can follow her people around and be part of the action. Like many Malinois puppies, she’s smart, funny, and full of personality. She keeps her foster family laughing daily with her goofy antics and big opinions. She can be a spicy little thing at times and is learning appropriate dog manners and boundaries, so she’ll need a family committed to continuing her training and socialization as she grows. Outside of puppy shenanigans, she has a softer side too. Once she’s done exploring, she turns into a complete couch potato and is happiest sprawled out on top of her humans for hours soaking up cuddles. She’s currently working on crate training and potty training and making progress every day. She’s already doing well during the daytime with potty habits and has started practicing off-leash skills, naturally wanting to stay close and follow her people around. As a Belgian Malinois puppy, she’ll need a home ready to provide her with ongoing mental stimulation, training, structure, and exercise. In return, you’ll get a loyal, intelligent, hilarious best friend who will keep life interesting and love you with her whole heart.

Story
Gennaro is an outgoing, social puppy who loves meeting new people and making new friends. She’s incredibly friendly with veterinary staff, enjoys neighborhood walks and adventures at the tree farm, and approaches life with endless curiosity. She loves to climb and explore anything she can reach. While loud barking behind fences can make her a little nervous, she remains very dog-social and eagerly wants to greet every dog she sees. She appears more sensitive to the noise itself than to the dogs. She’s confident in new environments and has even slept through an outdoor concert. Until her vaccines are complete, she travels comfortably in a carrier and adjusts well to new experiences. Gennaro also has some funny quirks — she happily drinks from the garden hose or kitchen sink whenever given the chance. Gennaro is developing both her food and toy motivation and is showing lots of promise in training. She loves soft tug toys and is learning that fetch means bringing the toy back, though she still thinks moving leashes are fair game for tugging too. She has started clicker training and already offers an automatic sit in hopes of treats or attention. She enjoys Kongs, food puzzles, and is beginning to learn recall, down, and heel using positive reinforcement. She is doing very well with crate training and typically only vocalizes when she needs to go potty. She’s particular about where she likes to poop in the yard and may try to hold it if she can’t access her preferred spot. She tolerates baths and nail trims well, especially with the help of Kong cheese spray as a reward. She has also adjusted nicely to riding quietly in a crate in the car, especially when she can stay close to her person. Gennaro is still learning appropriate dog manners and would likely thrive with a playful younger dog companion. She currently lacks good manners around cats and small animals, often trying to play by tackling, so she will need guidance and supervision. Depending on how her drive develops as she matures, she may not be suitable for a home with cats long term. She has not yet been introduced to children. She has the potential to become an incredible adventure companion and could excel in activities such as hiking, Fast CAT, dock diving, agility, nose work, or even beginner bite work. While she does not currently show the drive for detection work, she is still very young and may continue to mature over time. Gennaro would make an excellent companion for an active, adventurous owner — especially someone who enjoys hiking, backpacking, travel, or van life. She may also be a wonderful introduction to higher-energy working breeds for the right person. Continued crate training and building independence skills will be important for her development to help prevent separation anxiety and encourage confidence when left alone. Note: Gennaro has a small notch in one ear from a play accident with an older dog. It is purely cosmetic.
