Story
Kara came into our lives the way the best things do — unexpectedly, and straight into our hearts. Our teenager spotted him and, well… resistance was futile. Here’s the thing about Kara: he’s exceptional. At just 8 weeks old, he’s already paper potty trained, sits on command, lays down on command, and is actively working on stay. This puppy doesn’t just learn — he thrives on it.We have two other dogs at home, so as much as it breaks our hearts, we simply can’t keep a third. Kara deserves a family who can give him all the love, energy, and mental stimulation this brilliant boy needs.

FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks! --- Meet June. She and her brother came to us as bottle babies. Mommy was a larger breed dog and the puppies were born in a local shelter. It was surprising there were only two, but they were healthy and getting fed by their mom for almost a week. Sadly - mommy's health took a turn and it was decided to pull the puppies and get them into a foster. They were big babies, at 9 weeks, she was 14 pounds! She was born March 2nd. We were surprised by the DNA, half Malinois / half 13 other breeds. DNA suggested they could be between 50-80#, like we said, she's a chunk. June's mom was completely black - so she inherited part of her coloring. June is definitely the lover of the pair. Being a bottle baby - she has been very socialized. Her first foster had a toddler, other dogs. At 6 weeks, she went to a foster whose very friendly orange cat became a constant companion to the pair. After her brother was recently adopted, she went to a different foster home to learn crate training (doing great) and all the puppy things. She's even walking on a leash around their property. Being part Malinois, we are looking for homes that have previous GSD or similar experience. She will likely need a firm handler and an active home. She's super sweet, smart and going to make a great companion. She is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated to appropriate age. She will need more puppy shots, including rabies when she's older. Puppies are good with dogs, cats, kids and more. Being a puppy, they will need lots of training, including housebreaking. Remember, puppies are cute, but they have sharp teeth, need to be fed 3 times a day and poop... a lot! Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption. Save-A-Mutt requires a training contract and refundable deposit (depending on previous dog experience) on this particular puppy. It's Easy. You pick a trainer in your area, and upon completion of a 6+ week training class, we will refund the deposit. Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood. Adoption fee is $525. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible. Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home. Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.

Story
Meet Cairo (aka Big Dog) 🐾 Looking for a loyal sidekick, adventure buddy, and professional Velcro dog all rolled into one handsome package? Meet Cairo — a 4-year-old neutered Belgian Malinois with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Cairo’s story started rough. He was found wandering the Texas countryside as a stray, severely underweight at just 50 pounds and too weak to stand. Today, this resilient boy has transformed into a healthy, happy 65-pound goofball who’s ready to leave the dusty roads behind and finally find his forever home. At first, Cairo can be a little reserved and cautious while he figures you out. But once you earn his trust, you’re officially his person. From that moment on, he becomes the ultimate Velcro dog — following you from room to room, leaning against your legs, attempting to climb into your lap like he’s a tiny puppy, and giving dramatic sighs if you leave him alone for too long. Like a true Belgian Malinois, Cairo is whip-smart, intensely loyal, and always ready for his next job — even if he occasionally invents one for himself. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of everything you do, whether that’s hiking a trail, tossing a ball in the backyard, or supervising your every move around the house. Malinois fans know the breed’s magic: fierce devotion, incredible intelligence, and a bond that runs deep. Cairo brings all of that… plus a goofy streak that keeps life entertaining. He’s equal parts loyal protector and oversized clown. One minute he’s on neighborhood watch duty with his serious “I’ve got this handled” bark, and the next he’s prancing around with a toy in his mouth like the happiest dork alive. He’s expressive, hilarious, affectionate, and absolutely full of personality. The Good Stuff: Crate trained and happy to relax in his kennel Mostly house trained and learning routines quickly Dog-friendly with excellent play energy Smart, eager to learn, and highly trainable Loves tug, fetch, puzzle toys, and interactive games A Few Honest Notes: Cairo is looking for an adult-only home or one with older, respectful teens. Young children make him nervous, and he does best when his space and boundaries are respected. He also cannot live with cats, chickens, or other small animals due to his prey drive. What Cairo Needs: Cairo is looking for someone who appreciates everything that makes a Belgian Malinois special — intelligence, athleticism, loyalty, and that deep desire to be connected to their person. He’s not a “sit around all day” kind of dog; he thrives when he has structure, activity, and a job to do, even if that job is mastering puzzle toys or joining you on outdoor adventures. Give this boy guidance, consistency, and plenty of love, and you’ll get the kind of once-in-a-lifetime dog people rave about. In return, Cairo will give you unwavering loyalty, endless laughs, and the kind of deep bond Belgian Malinois are famous for. If you’re ready for a smart, protective, hilariously clingy best friend, Cairo may be your perfect match. Apply today and give this big goofy boy the forever home he’s been waiting for. ❤️ Adoption only in Texas at this time $200 adoption fee

🐾 Meet Waffles! 🐾 Age: 3 years old Breed: Belgian Malinois Mix Status: Spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and preventions Waffles is a stunning, smart, and athletic Belgian Malinois mix looking for her forever family! At 3 years old, she’s past the puppy stage but still full of energy and enthusiasm. This girl is incredibly sweet and eager to please, but she will thrive best with a breed knowledgeable owner who understands both the mental and physical needs of a Malinois. Waffles loves a good game of fetch, and she’ll happily play for hours if you let her. She has had professional training, which makes her a fantastic partner for someone who enjoys structure, exercise, and continued learning. Her trainer is also willing to work with her new adopters should they like to continue her training. Like many Malinois, she has prey drive and will definitely keep the squirrels out of your yard. With cats, she’ll need slow, careful introductions. If they run, she may want to chase. She does well with other non-dominant dogs, but proper introductions are important to set her up for success. If you’re looking for a loyal, athletic, and intelligent companion who will love adventure as much as she loves downtime with her people, Waffles could be the perfect match. 💌 Could Waffles be your new best friend? Apply today and give this amazing girl the home she deserves! $200 Local Adoption Fee (in Texas) $450 Out of State Fee (includes transportation to your area)

Whether it’s hikes, runs, playtime in the yard, or learning new tricks, Rancher is always up for the next activity. Rancher is incredibly friendly, loves human attention, and is happiest when he’s part of the action with his family. He’s also great with kids, making him a wonderful companion for an active household. Rancher gets along well with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a canine buddy to play with. **MAX, The 38 Pound Rescue Pup** Max is a gorgeous, very sweet, and small Belgian mix dog who was surrendered to the shelter because he had a bad UTI, and the owners did not bother to have him checked at a vet,  when in truth,  Max may have been hit by a car. He had a torn diaphragm, and his organs were being pushed through. We quickly raised $6,500 for emergency surgery before things could worsen. Max has healed beautifully, and he is now ready for his forever family! Max is a gentle, friendly pup who loves to snuggle and enjoys going for walks. He is playful yet calm at home, and he gets along well with other dogs. Max is affectionate with adults and would do well in a family with older children. He is eager to please and has a sweet, loving temperament that makes him a wonderful companion. Sadly, his foster is moving to a smaller home with no room or yard for Max. Max is 5 years of age, neutered, and up to date on his vaccines. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Max, please submit an adoption application. Senior Dogs welcomes foster-to-adopt situations for approved applicants. To apply, simply fill out our online application form with your contact information and a brief description of your household and experience with dogs. Once your application is received, our team will contact you within 2 to 3 business days to discuss next steps, answer any questions, and arrange a virtual or in-person meet-and-greet with Max. Most approvals are completed within a week, so you can start your journey with Max soon! Max has a $450.00 adoption fee www.smallpupsrescue.org June 2, 2026, 3:25 pm
