Story
If there ever was a dog who needed human kindness and love, it is Ziggy. Ten-year-old Ziggy, a Poodle/Bichon mix, has spent much of his life being overlooked and neglected. When no other rescue was willing to step forward, CACC opened its doors, and its heart, to this deserving little dog. Years of neglect took a devastating toll. Ziggy lost his vision, most of his teeth, and faced several other medical challenges. Yet somehow, the hardships he endured never dimmed his sweet spirit. He still greets each day with trust, a wagging tail, and a heart full of love. After everything he has been through, Ziggy still chooses joy. He is a beautiful reminder of the resilience of dogs. Despite the difficult life he has known, Ziggy remains a gentle, affectionate soul who enjoys the company of people, other dogs, and likely even cats. He can be silly, playful, and even mischievous at times. Most of all, he loves being close to his people and sharing the simple happiness of everyday life. Ziggy adores curling up in a warm lap and is happiest when he";s simply included in whatever you're doing. He has learned to navigate the world without sight and adapts remarkably well to new environments. Once he learns the layout of a home, he moves around with surprising confidence, happily trotting toward the sound of a familiar voice. Blindness doesn"t define Ziggy; it is simply one small part of who he is. Fully potty trained, Ziggy sleeps soundly through the night in his x-pen without needing a potty break. Even more amazing, he is a very low-maintenance companion who requires only minimal accommodations for his blindness. His future family will simply need to help him gradually explore the outdoors and, most importantly, shower him with the love and affection he has gone without for far too long. These days, Ziggy finds joy in life's simplest pleasures: a tasty treat, a gentle cuddle, sniffing around the yard, or stretching out for a nap in a sunny spot. He doesn't need grand adventures or endless activity. What he longs for is a safe home, a soft bed, and someone whose voice he can learn by heart. For most of his life, Ziggy has known what it feels like to be unwanted. We want his next chapter to be different. We want him to know what it means to be cherished, protected, and deeply loved. What Ziggy wants most now is simple: comfort, companionship, and a family to call his own. In return, he offers the kind of devotion that only a grateful old soul can give. Though he cannot see the people who love him, he feels their kindness completely. If you have room in your heart for this extraordinary little dog, please let us know. Opening your home to Ziggy may be one of the most meaningful acts of kindness you'll ever make, and one of the most rewarding. Some dogs leave paw prints on your floor. Dogs like Ziggy leave paw prints on your heart forever.

Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at dpsrescue.org. * This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, June 27th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.   All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $800 Meet Splash: From Matted Shelter Pup to Adorable Adventure Buddy 10-12 months old | 10 lbs | Bichon Mix Splash's story began when he was rescued from the shelter alongside his friends Beach and Wave. When he arrived, he was a matted mess— his curly coat had grown so long that it completely covered his face, making it difficult for him to see the world around him. Thankfully, a volunteer groomer worked her magic, and Splash emerged looking— and feeling— like a brand-new dog. The transformation was remarkable. Once his overgrown fur was removed and he could finally see clearly, Splash's puppy personality began to shine. The groomer even pointed out his puppy teeth, confirming what everyone suspected: underneath all those mats was a young, playful pup just waiting to blossom. Daily Life with Splash Splash is an early riser and starts his day around 6 a.m., helping his foster mom say goodbye to her husband before he heads off to work. After that, he's perfectly content to return to his cozy dog bed next to her side of the bed for a few more hours of sleep. Around 8:15 a.m., Splash is ready to greet the day, especially if breakfast is involved! He happily enjoys his kibble and fresh water while his foster mom prepares for her workday. Since she works from home, Splash spends much of his day nearby, usually napping beside her in the home office. He's currently learning independence and has made great progress. While he loves being close to his people and will happily follow his foster mom from room to room, he's becoming more comfortable with short periods of separation and is gaining confidence every day. A Sensitive Soul with a Growing Confidence When Splash first arrived, he was incredibly shy. These days, while still a sensitive and thoughtful little guy, Splash has come a long way. Once he feels safe, his playful puppy side comes out in full force. He has discovered the joy of toys, games, treats, and adventures. Splash tends to be more concerned about what's happening behind him than what's ahead. On walks, he often glances back to make sure everything is okay. Every day brings a little more confidence. Smart, Trainable, and Treat-Motivated Splash is a bright little dog who loves learning—especially when treats are involved! He already knows: Sit Spin Watch Me Touch In fact, Splash is so eager to earn treats that he'll sometimes cycle through all of his tricks without being asked, hoping one of them will earn him a reward. His foster mom often catches him offering spins all on his own, just in case there might be a snack coming his way. His intelligence and food motivation make him a wonderful candidate for continued training. Fetch Champion in Training One thing that makes Splash especially adorable is his love of fetch. Not only does he chase after squeaky toys, but he actually brings them back and drops them at your feet, ready for another throw. Watching his puppy excitement as he races after a toy is one of his foster mom's favorite things. Walks and Adventures Splash has made huge strides with leash walking. When he first arrived, walks were intimidating. Now, whenever he hears the word 'walk,' his tail starts wagging and he eagerly runs over to have his leash put on. He doesn't pull, chase squirrels, or act overly energetic on walks. Instead, he's more of an observer, carefully taking in his surroundings. While he can still be a little uncertain around unfamiliar dogs and strangers, his confidence is steadily growing. His foster family has taken him on all sorts of adventures! No matter where they go, Splash wants to be part of the fun. He would much rather accompany his people than stay home. At restaurants, he's polite and well-mannered, never begging for food or trying to steal anything from the table. He simply enjoys being included. A Perfect Work-From-Home Companion If you work from home, Splash may be your ideal coworker. He's happy to curl up nearby while you work and quietly nap beside your desk. He enjoys being close to his people without constantly demanding attention. In the evenings, he's content to lounge beside you on the couch, occasionally accepting some lap time before settling next to you with a favorite chew. His current favorite? A bully stick ring that he happily works on while relaxing with his foster family. House Training and Home Skills Splash is doing very well with potty pad training and consistently uses pee pads. He's also learning appropriate chewing habits. Like many puppies, Splash is currently teething. Fortunately, he's easily redirected to approved chew toys and bully sticks.   With Other Dogs and People Splash has not lived with another dog in foster care, but his foster mom believes he would benefit from having a confident canine companion to learn from. Around unfamiliar dogs and strangers, Splash can sometimes be a little growly when he feels unsure. However, his reactions have improved significantly with continued socialization and positive experiences. At home, he's generally quiet and rarely barks. He may occasionally growl when people pass by the yard or when his foster dad returns home from work wearing his uniform, which seems to make him a bit nervous. What Makes Splash Special? Perhaps the most special thing about Splash is his resilience. Despite whatever hardships he experienced before rescue, he remains incredibly sweet, gentle, and eager to trust. His groomer, who spent hours patiently helping him through his makeover, absolutely fell in love with him and described him as one of the sweetest dogs she's worked with. Splash seems happiest when he feels secure, loved, and included. Once he knows he's safe, his affectionate, playful, adventurous personality shines through. Splash's Dream Home Splash would thrive in a patient, loving home that understands he may need a little time to settle in and build confidence. A home with another friendly dog could be wonderful for him, but it's not required. What's most important is a family willing to continue helping him learn that the world is a safe and happy place. Whether it's a quiet evening on the couch, a walk around the neighborhood, a training session with treats, or an adventure across town, Splash is ready to be your loyal sidekick. If you're looking for a sweet, smart, adorable young dog who wants nothing more than to be part of your life, Splash may be the perfect match. June 26, 2026, 9:38 pm

Meet Beach, a 3–4 year old, 8lbs Bichon mix whose non-shedding coat makes her as easy on your vacuum as she is on your heart. She's soft, sweet, affectionate, and the kind of little dog who reminds you that life's better when you slow down and enjoy the simple things. If dogs came with postcards, Beach's would simply read: 'Wish you were here!' Beach isn't the type to make a splash the moment she walks into a room. She's more like your favorite hidden beach—the one you discover by accident and never want to leave. At first she's a little reserved, quietly taking everything in. But give her a little time, a little patience, and a whole lot of love, and you'll discover what a treasure she truly is. Once Beach settles in, prepare yourself for an incoming tide of kisses. She has become quite the little Velcro dog with her foster mom and happily follows her from room to room, making sure she never misses out on whatever adventure...or laundry...is happening next. She has perfected the art of being close without being demanding. Whether you're cooking dinner, working from home, or binge-watching your favorite show, Beach simply wants to be wherever you are. And evenings? That's when Beach really comes ashore. Her favorite place in the world is curled up next to her person on the couch. When bedtime arrives, she's been sleeping with her foster mom, happily claiming the pillow just above her head. Then every morning starts exactly the way every morning should—with an enthusiastic tail wag and a shower of sweet puppy kisses. Alarm clocks are overrated. Beach starts her days around 7:00 a.m. with a quick potty break followed by breakfast. She's a good eater, although she's developed quite the refined palate. Plain kibble? Meh. Add a splash of warm water and a little topper? Five-star beachfront dining. Throughout the day she enjoys potty breaks, relaxing around the house, short walks, and the occasional car ride as she continues building her confidence. She used to get carsick, but with practice she's already doing much better. She's the perfect combination of companion and couch potato. Beach enjoys her walks and walks nicely on leash, though she's still gaining confidence and occasionally needs a little reassurance. A few kind words and positive encouragement are all it takes to get her tail wagging again. She's not looking to run a marathon. She's looking for someone to enjoy life's little strolls with. Beach lives with three resident dogs and spends her days around all kinds of canine personalities thanks to her foster mom's doggy daycare. While she was initially a bit unsure, she's becoming more comfortable every day. She especially enjoys the company of smaller dogs and has become quite fond of one of the resident pups named Blossom. She also lives peacefully with cats and does wonderfully with them. She is still a bit timid around new people and young children, so we'd love to see her in a home where she can continue building confidence at her own pace. Because of this, we think she'd be happiest in a home without young children. Another friendly dog would be a wonderful bonus and would likely help her continue blossoming. Beach is mostly housetrained with only a couple of accidents while settling into foster care. She sleeps soundly through the night, is quiet around the house, and her foster has only heard her bark once—and that was simply because the neighbor's dog insisted on starting the conversation first. Now...there is one tiny confession. Beach has a bit of a paper hobby. If you accidentally leave paper within reach, she may decide it's time for a confetti celebration. Bills, junk mail, old notes...consider it her personal recycling program. Fortunately, she has absolutely no interest in shoes, furniture, or other household items. One of her foster mom's favorite things about Beach is simply how happy she is to see her. Every reunion, whether you've been gone five minutes or five hours, is celebrated with an enthusiastic tail wag and enough kisses to make anyone smile. She also has an impressive collection of delightfully silly sleeping positions that will have you reaching for your phone because no one will believe it otherwise. Some dogs crash into your life like a wave. Beach gently rolls in like the tide. Steady. Comforting. Peaceful. And before you know it, you can't imagine life without her. So grab your sunscreen, leave your worries behind, and don't let this little piece of paradise wash away. Beach is waiting. June 26, 2026, 9:38 pm

Story
As a rescue, we witness heartbreaking cases of animal abuse and neglect from all across the state. Sadly, this story is no different. And yes — this is real. These photos are NOT AI generated. This is a living senior dog we saved from euthanasia.   Meet Theodent Toothpaste.   Until he can be professionally groomed, we aren’t even sure what breed mix he is. He’s estimated to be around 8–10 years old and has a heart murmur. We are still getting to know him, but one thing is already clear — he is deeply attached to his foster and just wants to feel safe and loved. So far, he has been such a good boy.   UPDATE 5/28/26 -- he has been groomed and photos to be posted soon.  His DNA showed he is 71% poodle and the other 29% is split among Bichon-American Eskimo-Shih Tzu-Maltese-Pekingese-Pomeranian-Chihuahua-Schnauzer-Cocker Spaniel   As we continue learning about his medical and emotional needs, we are asking for your help to raise donations for his care.
