I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Cottonball, a gentle 4-year-old Shih Tzu mix at 14 pounds, looking for a calm, loving home where he can feel safe and adored. Though he is mostly blind due to severe dry eye, Cottonball has slowly blossomed into an affectionate, trusting companion once he learns your voice and scent. He may cower at first, but offer him your hand to sniff and you’ll quickly earn soft kisses and cuddly loyalty. Cottonball loves praise, gentle conversation, and being close to his people. He walks nicely on leash, enjoys short strolls, rides well in the car, and has become an excellent office buddy. He gets along beautifully with dogs and cats alike, greeting everyone with sweet kisses. He’s also discovering that human beds may be one of life’s greatest joys. This special boy will need a patient home familiar with grooming and willing to support a visually impaired dog. He would do best with gentle, dog-savvy teens or adults in a quieter home without many stairs. Cottonball may move slowly, but his heart is full of love. Story
Poor, sweet Petunia was a terrific mess of mats and foxtails, she needed help - badly! Fortunately she landed at the Porterville Shelter and they took care of her! Now at Milo and gearing up to find the loving home and spoiling she deserves for the rest of her life! Currently weighing under 13 pounds, too small to be left outside which clearly she was….But Petunia is resilient and will bounce back and learn to trust and soak up the love and comforts she craves. Petunia's amazing foster had the following to say about her: Petunia is a sweet little baby who just wants to be your lapdog and shadow. She is good with other dogs and wants to play with them. She is a little fearful of others walking by on the street but has done great with leash and potty training. She was neglected for so long but never lost sight of the pleasure of human connection. She is super gentle, super soft, likes to wear clothes, and is quite silly when she plays. She would be an amazing family dog, and will make anyone with a lap happy!

Story
My name is Duke! When I first came to Milo, I was pretty matted and scared. But now I’m feeling so happy, safe, and brave, it’s like a whole new me. I absolutely love going for walks, hikes (I can even hike off leash!), and even swimming in the lake. People always stop and tell me how cute I am, and once they meet me, they say I’m really sweet too, which makes my tail wag extra hard because it’s true, I’ve got a whole lot of love to give. Sometimes when I’m out with my foster mom I give her a little smile just because I’m so happy. She says I have a heart of gold, and I think she might be right. I love other dogs, and I like people too, I just need a moment to know they’re safe, and then I’m all in with cuddles and affection. I sleep nicely in my crate at night, love being outdoors swimming and hiking and have the best time playing with my dog friends. Now that I feel safe and confident, I’m ready to find my forever home, hopefully with a dog sibling who likes to play as much as I do. Apply today to meet me, I'd love to come home with you!

Story
Meet Otto, an adorable little fluffball who may be a Shih Tzu mix-but honestly, we're pretty sure he's just a tiny cloud with legs. With his soft coat and irresistibly charming underbite, Otto is guaranteed to make people smile.Otto is a sensitive soul who appreciates a gentle, patient approach. New people and situations can be a bit overwhelming for him, so he's looking for a home that will respect his boundaries and let him build trust at his own pace. Because of his sensitive nature, Otto would do best in a home without very young children. While some dogs dream of endless couch cuddles, Otto prefers life's quieter pleasures. Slow strolls through the neighborhood and soaking up the sunshine are more his style. He's an independent little guy right now, content to enjoy companionship from a comfortable distance. With patience, understanding, and a calm environment, Otto has all the potential to continue growing in confidence and forming meaningful bonds with his people. If you're looking for a gentle companion and are willing to let a friendship bloom naturally, Otto may be the perfect match for you. Primary Color: White Weight: 15.2 Age: 1yrs 6mths 2wks
