Story
Jim is the best puppy for anyone who loves to get kisses and cuddle with a soft buddy. He is friendly and sweet, standing on his hind legs and jumping to get your attention. He’s curious and loves to chew on his squeaky toys and the occasional sock or shoe. So far, he barks at larger dogs, and needs to continue training to get comfy staying in a crate, develop good potty habits and become more relaxed and focused when on leash. Since he’s a bichon mix, he’s got those great breed qualities and he’ll also require regular grooming to keep his beautiful coat clean and ready for cuddling. He got along very well with a female chihuahua for a few days. He hasn’t yet been exposed to cats or other small household pets. He’s been friendly with every person he’s met, and guests have all remarked what a delightful little guy he is! With basic obedience and good canine citizen training, he would make a perfect therapy dog. If you're interested in Jim please fill out an application.

Story
Hello People, My name is Vivi and I’m a sweet and quite sassy little girl of five looking for a forever home. My foster Mom says I’m very loving and affectionate -- and as feminine as they come. I’m all of 12 pounds, am housebroken (and use the doggy door) and I love my crate. I even put myself to bed at night if I’m tired (but Mom lets me come in to the Big People’s Bed in the morning for a cuddle or two or three!) Dad says I’m a diamond in the rough. He and Mom are doing their best to teach me the proper way to behave in the world. I’m definitely making progress but will need to continue my ‘learning’ with someone who is a super smart and VERY savvy dog person. If that sounds like you, please read on! While I am long on (good) looks and cute as can be, I’m also pretty willful. I like to do what I like to do (which is why I need someone who is smarter than I am and will guide me into perfect behaviors.) I walk well on a leash and am learning to relax in the car. I do best on short drives and when I can listen to music. I do love to cuddle and am known for springing up into your lap to cuddle at the slightest provocation and wanting you to pet my head ( but only my head, please!). If you are lying on the sofa, I love to roll on top of you and make cute little "snorty" noises as I turn around. Unfortunately I’m not a pup that is good around children. If you have children or grandchildren that visit I’m not the one for you. Sorry! I’m an ‘adults-only’ kind of pup. Mom says before I became a FurKid I was adopted simply because I am cute. So I formed some bad habits that she is helping me to overcome. Since I’m smart, I’m definitely learning what to do and not do. I’m also a bit selective about making friends. I bark when people come to the door (Dad says I’m a great watchdog) but when I know someone, I’m much friendlier. I also guard my toys, which is why I’m best as the only pup in the house. My Ideal Home: *Someone home most of the time * NO other FurKids--as I like to be the center of attention * Adults only * NO children or grandchildren * Committed to training me Experience level: *Recent dog experience a must! *Rescue dog experience a plus! *Experience with behavioral training a real plus!!! Because I wasn’t successful in my ‘past life’ I’m hoping to make up for lost time – and am looking for adopters who will appreciate my femininity and my affectionate nature – and will continue to work on my training so I can become the best little girl that I can be. Mom says there is no doubt that I’m well worth the effort but you have to know my signals so that I can be successful. If I sound like the pup you are looking for please let us know. It will be a very special home to which I am adopted as I’m a very special kind of pup. If that sounds like you, please send an email explaining your experience and background to bfkapplicants@gmail.com If you sound like you represent a fit, we will be back in touch. Tail wags and cuddles, Vivacious, Intelligent and Very Independent Vivi

Story
Hello New Friends, My name is Cuddly and Carefree Carly --and I’m 11 pounds of affection in a cute little body. My Mom says I’m a friendly, fun-loving, and affectionate Bichon girl of nine (years that is) who is a ‘communicator’. I cock my head when someone talks to me and I listen very intently. I know a lot of words and what they mean! Anyone who meets me can tell that I’m outgoing and confident—and I love to entertain my people. In my early ‘youth’ I won all kinds of awards for my beauty (Please check out my award-winning photos.) I liked to strut around the ring and won the hearts of a lot of judges. In fact I have my fair share of medals and ribbons. After my ‘show days’ were over, I was adopted by a nice lady who loved to take me on lots of walks and rides in the car. And I REALLY LOVE my walks and rides!!! When we walked I would ‘strut my stuff’ like I did for the judges in the ring. And boy! can I strut! Unfortunately that lady recently got very sick and could no longer take care of me. When no one in the family wanted to help, they ‘set me free’ on a very busy street in Los Angeles. Let me tell you that was scary! But my original mom, a breeder, was notified so she immediately swooped in to rescue me. Mom said my hair was matted, my toenails were long and it had been quite a while since I was properly groomed. She shaved me down, trimmed my nails and showed me lots of love. Since then my life has returned to ‘normal.’ My hair is growing back in, I have run of the house (and the pack) and am once again the happy, friendly and outgoing pup I had always been. I suppose I should mention that I am housebroken and well-behaved. I am very friendly with all people and good with other dogs – but (drum roll please) I prefer to be the only pup in the home so I can once again be the center of someone’s world. My Ideal Home: * An active adopter who likes to walk and go places (I’m a ‘take me anywhere” Starbucks kind of girl) *Adults or a family would be great * No other dogs required Experience level: *Have had dogs as an adult *Recent/current dog experience a plus In return for all the good things I just described, I will shower you with love and affection. I am sweet natured, well trained, friendly, and quite energetic. If you like to go places and do things, then I’m your girl. And when we get home and you want to relax, I’m happy to cuddle. So if you are looking for a new best friend and companion, I’m applying for the job. Please ask for me by name and I’ll look forward to meeting you. Many kisses and cuddles, Cuddly, Confident and Carefree Carly

Story
Hello Everyone! My name is Bouncy Benji and I’m a three year old Bichon Havanese mix who is 16 pounds of happy energy and fun. My foster Mom says I’m a very special boy who is very smart (more on that in a minute) and am ridiculously cute. I love to walk (I actually prance), play with toys (I can entertain myself if you are busy), am smart, sweet and both observant and respectful of ‘the rules of the house’. Perhaps the most amazing thing about me, though, is my love of life – and resilience. Before I became a FurKid I lived outside with other dogs and very little human attention. There were a lot of us so we never got to sit on laps or go for walks or learn commands. We didn’t get belly rubs or rides in the car or get to be groomed and feel good. All of that changed a few weeks ago. Now I have this great foster home, a doggy foster sister to observe and learn from – and I get cuddles and snuggles from Mom. (I’ve learned how to ask for them too!) In no time at all, I have learned the joy of going for a walk. I now take walks of two miles or more every morning and trot like a pony with a big smile on my face. Mom says that I truly love being outdoors-- and not just on walks! (She doesn’t have a yard so if I had a yard to sun and run in why I think I’d be in heaven!) I don’t tug on my leash or bark at other dogs either! Mom says I’m also her secret diet! You see, she’s lost weight taking me on my walks! Those walks help me to enjoy my ‘down time’ at home where I can show how smart I am by mastering puzzles and playing games like ‘find the hidden toy --or treat! Each day I’m making up for lost time, learning new things and exploring the world around me. I’ve mastered lots of things very quickly. Mom says that shows I’m learning commands and would like to learn more. Oh, and after a lot of activity, I love to stretch out on the floor (Mom says it’s my Superman stretch.) I’ve also been known to take a nap in that position.) I’m housebroken and crate trained (I go to sleep quietly in my crate after my last walk and stay asleep until morning) and I definitely respond to love AND structure. Because I have a lot of puppy energy, Mom has some ‘tricks’ she uses to channel my excitement when we’re getting ready for a walk. (She promises to share them with you as they make me very happy!) My Ideal Home: *An active couple or person to love *Someone home most of the time *No other pup required – I can be an ‘only’ *Adults or a family with older children Experience level: *Have had dogs as an adult *Recent/current dog experience a plus *Rescue dog experience also a plus So if you are looking for a companion to share your life, keep you active, are patient and committed to helping me become the bestest little guy I can be, please complete our application and ask for me as I’m applying for the job! Snuggles, Cuddles and Happy Adventures. Bouncy, Blissful and Big-Hearted Benji

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Arlo: The Life-of-the-Party Bichon Frise Mix! Arlo is a 5 year old Bichon mix with a personality as big as his heart. This little guy has been through a lot, but his zest for life shines brighter than ever. We couldn't let his story end in heartbreak, so we stepped in to give Arlo the second chance he so deserves. Arlo is fiercely loyal and incredibly smart - he's a people pleaser who thrives on love and structure. While his devotion is heartwarming, it's also landed him in a bit of trouble in the past. His resource guarding behavior, particularly when it comes to claiming his favorite person's lap, means Arlo needs an experienced owner who can set firm but loving boundaries. With guidance and training, we believe Arlo can learn to share his world with others. To set Arlo up for success, he's looking for a child-free home where he can be the star of the show. While he may prefer to be the center of your attention, Arlo's quirky, funny side will steal your heart. He's known for breaking into spontaneous zoomies that will leave you laughing and remind you that life - just like Arlo - should always be celebrated. If you're ready to give Arlo the structure and love he needs, he'll repay you with endless laughs, cuddles, and a lifetime of loyalty. Apply here to meet Arlo and find out if this funny, spirited underdog is the perfect match for you!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 21, 2025, 12:11 am
