My name is Alonzo! I am about 60 lbs and about 2 to 2.5 years old and a Black Mouth Cur mix. I probably have a little boxer or hound in me also! I walk well on leash, I am great with other dogs. I am active, affectionate and a big mush! A fenced in yard would be ideal for me but I could also do just fine being leash walked as long as my people were up for some longer strolls and adventures. And, in fact, leash walking would be awesome so I can meet new people and see new sights and sounds. I love toys and romping with my friends! I have been around children as young as 4 and even though I might knock a young child over (which just happens sometimes), I was really gentle and interested. I think I would love to live with kids. I can be crated - I don't love it but I can settle in. Oh and... No on cats! I am really such a good boy - I will make a good, loyal and fun companion - I just need a chance! Note: I really think I belong in my human's lap - I may have an issue with my idea of personal space - ha! Jana is currently with our partner rescue in Louisiana but hoping to come to NJ soon. We do offer a foster-to-adopt trial for approved adopters! Jana is described as affectionate, smart and eager to please. Her Louisiana foster family says she is  housebroken and does well in a crate and on the leash. She likes other dogs and has done well with kids.  Jana is fixed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $550.  Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. Newark was dog-tested at the shelter and he did well, even going for a walk alongside another dog just fine. He was also around a cat briefly with his original finder and was non-reactive. Phoebe is a sweet pup. She is opening up more and more every day but it's still timid in a lot of situations. She would do well in a family that will give her the time to come into her own, provide lots of praise and reassurance, snuggles, and a good treat! She currently lives with 2 other dogs. She is slow to opened up but is now playing with the other dogs. She is aware of the cat in the home but is not bothered by nor interested in her. Phoebe is excellent with children and she loves to shower them in affection. She is easily redirected away when they've had enough of her kisses. She is protective of her people and loves a good couch snuggle. Phoebe is working on house training and basic commands. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Frya (TX) is a female Black Mouth Cur mix rescued in Texas.  Our veterinary partner estimates that Frya is 2 yrs old at the time of intake in April 2023.  Frya is good with people and other dogs.  Beautiful, sweet Frya dumped at a shelter with a horrific tail injury that required amputation.  We don't know how it happened but we do know that she is in good hands and ready to find her forever home.  Frya is sweet and just wants to be loved. Her foster says she w alks well on a leash. She is learning to ask to go out and do her business.
