Story
Meet Lillian! Lillian is a 3-year-old Collie mix with a gentle soul and a heart full of sweetness. She can be a little shy at first, but once she feels comfortable, her loving personality shines through. Lillian would do best in a calm, peaceful home where she can relax and build confidence at her own pace. She walks beautifully on a leash and enjoys quiet strolls where she can take in the sights and sounds around her. Lillian has also done well with other dogs and could make a wonderful companion for a friendly, playful pup. If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal friend who just needs a little patience and love to blossom, Lillian might be the perfect match for you.

Story
Gracie and her brother were my 2025 Mother’s Day presents. I received from an elderly lady who told me both were boys. ((At a vet visit, I was told Gracie was a girl!!!)) She’s loving and a beautiful girl- I just can’t maintain 2 dogs. Neighbors have complained & she deserves a high energy person who needs an adventuresome dog. When I thought she had behavioral issues- I discovered I was the one with the issues when my high energy son took her for me for about a month. She came back calm. I also wasn’t prepared to raise 2 sibling puppies. I won’t do that again! She’s a beautiful girl. I want her rehomed with that person who runs or power walks. What I remember the most is when I fell some months ago. She knew I was in distress. She laid on my legs in a way that comforted me as I felt super silly for how it happened. She laid tight there with me until I could get up.

Story
We’ve had Cosmo for 4 years and have absolutely loved having him but with our growing family (had baby 2 months ago) we are sad to say he will not longer fit our family. We rescued Cosmo from anti cruelty society 4 years ago and they thought he was about 8 months old at the time. He is a Border Collie mix. We had one other dog at the time when we rescued him and they got along well until we lost our other dog to cancer almost 2 years ago. Cosmo does not have a bite history but he does come with behavioral issues and takes management. We have been working with a trainer all 4 years and got him into agility a year ago where he has been thriving. He struggles with resource guarding and has stranger danger. He growls when he feels uncomfortable or unsafe. He has fear of other dogs - other than our other dog we had, we avoiding engaging with dogs at the dog park or on walks due to his reactivity. He is “finicky” and can be difficult but when you earn his trust - he is incredibly lovable.

Story
Current Location: Korea 🇰🇷 ♡ 🧡 Meet Ma-eum A gentle soul learning to love again Ma-eum spent his early years tied outside on a farm, living in fear. He was abused by a male owner and frightened by children who threw balls at him. Because of that, he is still afraid of men, loud playground sounds, and the sight of bouncing toys. But despite all this, Ma-eum has the gentlest heart. For the past two years, he has been living in a patient and loving foster home. He has made slow, steady progress — on his terms — and is now ready for the next chapter of his life. 🧬 Personality Ma-eum is a quiet, thoughtful boy with a soft energy. He feels safest around gentle women with warm voices, and he truly thrives in calm, peaceful homes. He may keep his distance from men indoors, but sometimes shows more courage when outdoors. He isn’t the kind of dog who will run into your arms — but with time and patience, he’ll follow you anywhere. He enjoys peaceful walks, nosework games, gentle pets, and long naps by your side. He doesn't bark much, and he waits quietly when left alone after a short adjustment. 🏡 At Home ✅ House-trained (prefers peeing on vertical surfaces — his foster can provide wall-to-floor pads) ✅ Good with calm dogs (interested and social but may growl at overly excited dogs) ✅ Neutral to cats (no strong prey drive) ✅ Tolerates children (nervous around fast movements but never aggressive) ✅ Excellent in the car ✅ Loves brushing and gentle touch 🚫 Afraid of balls and squeaky toys — he prefers games with treats instead 💛 Ma-eum is looking for… A family who will let him set the pace. Someone who doesn’t expect instant cuddles but understands how meaningful it is when a shy dog chooses to stay close. Ideally, a female adopter or a quiet household with gentle energy. 📦 Foster home can provide pee pad setup 📍 Adoption includes interview & home check 📩 If Ma-eum’s story touched your heart, we’d love to tell you more. He’s been waiting a long time for someone who sees past the fear — and into his true, beautiful heart

Story
Dancer is a fun first guy. He really can make his own good time. He throws himself toys and lives in Dancer’s world most of the time watching everything around him and faking dead when we call him. Plus some of his independence might be a coping mechanism to deal with losing his home. Dancer has moved when he plays. Our favorite is his long leaps. He’s like a reindeer taking flight! Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, and is open from 12pm to 7pm daily. Walk-in visitors are welcome and helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to adopt the day you visit, please plan to arrive before 5:30pm. Visitors arriving after 5:30pm will still be able to view animals in Pavilions A-B-C until 7pm. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption. All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers). We recommend and can arrange dog-to-dog meet and greets for your current dog(s) to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination for your dog(s). Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog.
