Story
It breaks our hearts to say this, but we’re searching for a new home for our sweet boy, Panda. Panda is an incredibly loving, energetic dog with a huge heart. He’s smart, eager to please, and quickly learns new things—he already knows commands like “lay down” and “shake.” He truly thrives on connection and attention from his people. He absolutely lights up during playtime, especially with his favorite skunk toy or any ball. Watching him run and play brings so much joy—he has a special way of brightening a home. This has been a very difficult decision, made out of love and a desire to do what’s best for him. We are also expecting, and won't have the proper time to train a young pup and raise a baby. Panda would do best as the only male dog in a home where he can receive all the time, attention, and affection he deserves. We’re hoping to find a person or family who will love him as much as we do. Please reach out if you think you could be the right home for Panda ❤️

Thor is a very sweet dog, but he is high-energy and still needs consistent behavioral training. He is crate trained, but he does chew and can be very hyper. He would do best with an experienced owner or an active home that has the time and patience to work with him and give him plenty of exercise.

Story
Hey all, this is Archer. He is a 3 year old purebread Border Collie, great with our kids and other dog. We also have a Cat, and while Archer has never been aggressive of any kind, he has a strong herding instinct and will follow the cat around the house. We're looking to find him a new home for a few reasons, primarily we want our cat to be able to relax in the house more and not be followed so much, but we also want Archer to have a more active lifestyle. Ideally we could find him a home that has some wide outdoor space so he could run and play, and if he was given a job to do he would love it. We want to find Archer a great home with a more active lifestyle for him, so if you have any questions please let us know.

Story
Lucy is a 3-year-old Border Collie mix with a sensitive personality, incredible intelligence, and a very affectionate side. She loves snuggling in bed, playing games like hide-and-seek, and being involved in whatever her humans are doing. She loves walks, playing, and chasing balls. She is highly intelligent and energetic, so she thrives with mental stimulation, exercise, and structure. Lucy would do best with an experienced dog owner familiar with herding breeds and their sensitivities.Because of her herding instincts and sensitivity, Lucy is not a fit for homes with toddlers or infants. She does best in a calm environment with older children (if any) who can respect her space. She can also be protective around food and prefers not to be disturbed by children while resting.Lucy has never bitten or lunged at a child. We simply recognize that our growing family and busy toddler environment are no longer the right fit for her needs, and we want to find a home where she can truly thrive.

Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.  Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster.  This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their  pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is  unavailable for adoption.  Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION.  Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster  to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The  adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive  family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal  reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We  always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are  not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file  for 6 months.  To learn about Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at  MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue  Inc.  ##2514098##

Story
Nash is a 3 year old Border Collie Aussie mix. He is an energetic young neutered male. He loves to snuggle, go on walks, and play fetch. He does not like thunderstorms and gets very anxious. We do have him on prozac to help ease his anxiety. We are unable to keep Nash due to him not getting along with our 8 year old Mini Aussie. We took him in from a friend who found Nash born under a barn just when he was opening his eyes. He is a sweet boy and we are heartbroken we have to make this decision. We are looking to rehome him to someone who can give him what he needs.

These pups are in Gretna, Nebraska too!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Do you like Squirrels with bright eyes and fluffy tails? Little Miss Squirrel is an adorable three-year-old Cattle Dog mix with thoughtful intelligence. When she smiles, it’s like the sun is coming out. Squirrel would love to live with an individual or a couple for whom she can provide nighttime cuddles and daytime window security services. She has completed several Dog Training classes and one of her favorite games is 15-minute “Training” to learn anything new from Agility commands to Tricks which she learns quickly. Squirrel loves to snuggle, play her Brain Games, and snooze next to her people while they work. Although she is young, Squirrel is very calm and somewhat low energy. She loves car rides and long walks. She is great at the vet’s office, grooming, and nail trims. Squirrel’s Cattle Dog genes show in her willingness to enforce compliance with household rules. Although it is endearing to many humans, few dogs find it a compatible lifestyle, and small children may not want her as a governess. Neighborhood cats have thought it fun to walk the top of the fence and torment her, so her cat friendliness is uncertain at this time. Squirrel's adoption fee is $275, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.May 29, 2026, 1:30 pm
