Story
Please contact Rose (japchinrose@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Meet Spot, a 5-year-old, 75 lb Aussie/Great Pyrenees mix with a stunning merle coat and a muscular build. Spot is a smart and playful dog who loves to chase squirrels, run at the dog park, go for car rides, and visit the bank for treats. He is also a cuddly and affectionate dog who enjoys belly rubs, ear scratches, and eye contact with his person. He likes to play fetch and learn new tricks. Spot is well-mannered at home, housebroken, and patient with food and treats. He needs a fenced yard to explore and exercise. He is friendly with other dogs at the park, but he wants to be the only dog in his home. He is not suitable for homes with small children or small animals. He knows the basic commands, and willing to learn more. He also has potential for dog sports like agility or herding. Spot is a loyal and loving dog who needs a family who will appreciate his personality and beauty. He will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and fully vetted before adoption. To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $200 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs.  We do not ship dogs. All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try to email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.May 30, 2023, 1:48 pm

Story
Tucker is 4 years old, DOB 3/17/2019 He is a sweet very friendly boy, and loves to play fetch whenever it’s offered. Very smart, and knows most basic commands as well as some cool party tricks. Scared of cats. Has grown up around kids, and loves them, but doesn’t understand well and shows aggression when little ones annoy him. He has snapped at people before when he wants to be left alone. With a baby on the way, we didn’t want to risk anything and I don’t have the time/resources to train him to get better with kids. He’s pretty mellow, but loves daily “zoomies” around the couch, and he chases his tale when he’s excited. He is very amused by hamsters and turtles. He will fall in love with anyone that calls him a good boy.

Story
Are you looking for an outdoor, camping companion?  Hank is your guy, (b. 11/2017) an Australian Shepherd/German Shephard mix.  Hank loves to play and please his people.  He will let you love on him all day.  He would do best in a home with older children or no children, no other dogs, and a calm environment.  He is house trained.  He is good on long car rides and goes camping and boating.  The suggested adoption donation for Hank is $375. Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals.  In 2021 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $307,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.  Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.  To learn about Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc. ##1619645##

Story
Kadie is a sweet 2 year old aussie mix looking for an active family, preferably with herding dog experience who understands the needs of the breed. Kadie is a very smart and energetic girl with a strong herding instinct. This sweet pup has come a long way with her current owner but, unfortunately, Kadie had a rough start to her life. She is looking for a forever home that can offer her some basic training/help her learn commands and a patient family that wants to help a smart young dog work through a few rough patches. Kadie would like to find a quiet, low traffic home with understanding parents who can guide her throughout her life. Kadie hasn't had a lot of human friends but has done very well with the few she's met in her current home -- she was head over heels for her current owner's adult son! Kadie is a very smart dog who requires daily exercise (long walks or backyard play), would benefit from a routine, and would love someone who can continue to build her confidence/trust through training and socialization. She is very food motivated and is already kennel trained. Kadie hasn't been around too many dogs and is a little hit or miss when it comes to making canine friends. She is not a big fan of them on her walks, but she's had a couple of positive introductions and someone with more confidence/experience with doggie behavior/introductions might be able to make some headway with her. Because of her limited interactions with other 4 legged friends, her current owner thinks that she might do best as an only dog or in a home with a calm, older, wiser dog to provide comfort and friendship while she learns the ropes. Due to her energy/herding behavior she needs an adult-only home or a home with children over the age of 12. Kadie is ready to go home and settle in with a family that understands her needs and can give her the love she deserves! Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. If needed, we will put you in touch with the owner if you have any questions. The suggested adoption donation for Kadie is $350. Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization which means that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Story
Meet Bear, an Australian Shepard/German Shepard mix born 5/3/2021. Bear would do best in a home that's calm, and predictable and where he gets plenty of exercise and affection, so a big fenced-in yard would be great. He would do best in a home without cats or small children and if there is another dog in the home, slow dog intros would be best. He would also do best in a home with slow introductions to people. He is also still working on sharing his toys and he prefers to dine alone, so he would need a space separate from other animals during his eating times. Maybe your home could be Bears furever today!  The suggested adoption donation for Bear is $400. Adoptions for Bear are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that he can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainer. If this pet is not spayed or neutered at the time of adoption due to limited vetting availability, a voucher will be given to the adopter for a free spay/neuter procedure at Val Verde Animal Hospital. Spay/neuters completed elsewhere will be reimbursed $80/dog or $55/cat once proof of alteration has been received by Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue. Alterations are required for all Muddy Paws adoptions. The adoption contract states that alters must be done within ONE month of the adoption date or the adopter will be in breach of the contract. Adopters are required to provide proof of alteration to Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue immediately following the procedure. Thank you in advance for your compliance. Story
Say hello to Champ! He is a male Australian Shepard, born approximately March 6, 2022. Champ is housebroken, stranger friendly, and friendly with children under 6 years of age. He would love to have a fenced in yard with room to run around and play in. Champ is still young and teething, so he likes to chew on things. He will need plenty of chew toys and positive redirection during this process. Champ enjoys his meal times and he finds delight in plenty of exercise. He is very affectionate and will give you lots of kisses. He jumps when he is enthusiastic or wants attention. He enjoys digging for buried treasures in the yard. Champ currently lives with a big family with six children. He is an active and young dog that just needs someone to shower him with love and be willing to work on some obedience training.  The suggested adoption donation for Champ is $400. Alter Agreement:  If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital in Omaha, at no cost to you.  Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $80 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost.  If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice.  If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $80 for dogs, and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses. All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age.  All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Reese is a cute and snuggly little cattle dog mixed puppy. Pert and his litter mate were born outside to a Cattle Dog mom. He and his littermate Pert were trapped and brought into rescue. His first weeks in rescue he was understandably very shy around people.  However, every day he gains a little bit more confidence. He now likes to be cuddled, sleeps on his foster mom's lap, and runs up to new people to see what they're doing! Reese is potty-trained and crate-trained. He loves his exercise pen with his soft bed and all of his toys around him (which he uses as a crate). He is very gentle, and enjoys being with people once he warms up to them. So far, he is a fairly low energy dog. His adorable little brown eyes are surmounted by two funny blonde eyebrows! He will do best in a home with a another dog because he copies what other dogs do and that's how he lives best. We would consider adopting Reese and Pert together to the right home.  Reese's adoption fee is $375, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.May 28, 2023, 4:16 pm

Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. If you’ve been searching for a sweet, loyal, well-socialized, and playful pup then look no further! Miss Maggie is looking for a fur-ever home where she can snuggle with her humans, play with all the toys, and get lots of belly rubs. While staying with her foster family, Maggie has become well acclimated to playing with other dogs, staying home while the humans work, and navigating a relationship with older children. Maggie is shy in new environments and with new people. Slow introductions to strangers, kids, new places, and new pets would set Maggie up for a successful integration to her new home. Some of Maggie’s favorite things are toys and treats. Miss Maggie is content to stay at home and chill with her humans! She spends most of her days playing with her foster siblings and pretending to be her human’s shadow. She’ll do anything for treats—just ask her to sit or lay down and she’ll earn one quickly! Some of Maggie’s least favorite things are kennels and car rides. Because kennels make her anxious and have made her a great escape artist, Maggie’s foster family let her roam the house free while they worked during the day. Aside from the occasional puppy potty accident, Maggie did great while home alone outside the kennel. While transitioning to a new home, Maggie might feel a little anxious and have a few potty accidents at first. With time and patience, she will no doubt learn to communicate her potty needs to her new humans. When first arriving to her foster home, Maggie was too nervous to even be outside by herself. With time, patience, and bonding, Maggie is now confident enough to bolt out the door for play and potty time all by herself! It will likely take some time to get her back to that confidence in a new home, but she will thrive with the right humans to love her. Because of this, Maggie would do best with someone who can spend a lot of time with her during the day. Walking Maggie will be a breeze. As long as her humans are with her, she’s happy as can be! She doesn’t pull on leashes, and is not dog reactive while out and about. There are no cats in Maggie's current foster home, however, the original finder told us Maggie was good with her cats. Maggie originally tested heartworm positive when she arrived. She has been treated, and is in the final phase of recovery. She currently takes one or two doses of Trazodone per day. This is to help tame her playfulness and let her body rest. After her recovery, she may not need it at all until it’s time for a car ride or new experience. Maggie's foster mom tells us she's a really good girl who 'doesn’t have any terrible habits that need fixed. She might occasionally growl at her foster siblings if they try to take her toy, but she learns quickly with consistent redirection. Her and her two foster siblings share a water dish and eat in close proximity, and she’s never complained. Because Maggie is still young, she may occasionally play a little rough or “mouth” while playing (little Cattle Dogs do, sometimes), but she’s never bit or nipped anyone and the mouthing can be easily redirected. Maggie truly is the sweetest, most loyal companion!'. Maggie needs a family who will be patient and consistent with her, with a dog buddy to help teach her the ropes. She loves her humans with all her heart and deserves the same in return. Let’s get Miss Maggie into her fur-ever home! Maggie's adoption fee is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. Like all Australian Cattle Dogs, GSDs, and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Maggie will need training, consistency, boundaries, activity and socialization, in order to be a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. This sweet girl would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that she needs. Because of that, Maggie's ideal owner will have prior Australian Cattle Dog, GSD, or other similar breed experience, and a friendly resident dog to help show her the ropes. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.May 28, 2023, 4:16 pm
