Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ALGONQUIN hails from Fort Severn, a Northern community and came south with his 5 siblings, Yamaska, Arisaig, Makwa, Banff & Kokanee (they’re known as the Provincial Parks Litter) and she came south to find her forever home. He’s had *1 set of puppy vaccines, a microchip, “Interceptor Plus” dewormer and has been deemed a healthy boy by his Vet. We actually have a video showing both parents and mum looks like a medium sized Collie/Old English Sheepdog and his dad possibly a large sized black Lab/Border Collie/Shepherd. We do also see Newfoundlander breed in the litter so we do expect him to be a large breed dog. He comes from a community with many stray dogs so he no doubt has many different breeds in him that are not as notable as well. He’s a very placid, laid back, gentle little fella who loves his humans almost as much as he loves taking naps. He loves to play in his fenced-in yard and will happily chase his siblings around in it. He’s well socialized with people and will excitedly run up to greet them with a wagging tail. He loves his snuggles and will happily curl up in your lap to get lots of them.  ALGONQUIN is a happy-go-lucky, playful puppy who’s full of curiosity and is just learning what squeaky toys are all about and he’s always startled when one of his favourites actually has a squeaky in it. He’s fostered with 2 of his sisters and they are quite bossy to him. They will take his kibble if they’re not watched at meal times so he now gets fed in the crate so he can eat in peace. The funny thing is that when he sees his meal being prepared, he runs into his crate and patiently waits for his bowl of kibble. With his lovely personality and good nature he’s ready to find his forever home where he can continue to thrive and grow. ALGONQUIN has just started his crate training and he’s picking up on it very quickly as he’s one smart little guy. He’s only just started going out for his bathroom breaks so be’a just starting to understand that’s the place to do his business. He’s not going out for walks just yet seeing as he’s not vaccinated enough but he is wearing a collar and harness while on a leash so be can be walked around the back yard. Due to teething, he’s at a chewing stage and needs lots of chewy toys to satisfy that urge not to chew on anything that he shouldn’t. He really loves to chew on a Nyla bone to keep those little teeth busy too. He’s starting to learn a couple of basic commands already such as “sit” for his meals and take treats “gentle.” ALGONQUIN would love an active family who loves the outdoors, going on hikes, walks and will take him on adventures with them. He travels well in a vehicle and will just rest in his crate and quietly enjoy being driven around. He isn’t fostered with a dog but if there’s one in the home then they should be chill and placid like he is and they’d be fine putting up with puppy antics. He’s fostered with two older puppies and they love to chase and play with him. He would suit being with another dog in the home as long as they quiet and chill just like he is and definitely not a dominant dog. He can be an only dog as long as he’s not left alone for long periods at a time. He hasn't met a cat but seeing as he’s just a puppy and with a slow, monitored introduction they should do well together. He requires a fenced-in yard so he can run around and play safely so he wouldn’t suit being in an apartment and that’s also due to the size we think he’ll grow to be. Children should be aged 6yrs and up plus be gentle, loving and caring towards animals.  ALGONQUIN, like all puppies is a cute, playful and fun puppy but he’ll require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to commit to signing him up for puppy training/obedience classes so he can be the most well behaved puppy possible. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and his potential adopter must be in agreement to have him neuter performed by the time he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs (whichever comes first.) It will either be at the Rescue’s vet’s clinic or be at the Barrie SPCA. You do have the option to use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it at the SPCA. However, her spay will still have to be performed in the above timeframe for the reimbursement and we’ll need a copy of the procedure invoice and an updated photo of him (preferably in a cone after the surgery.) We use the photo on our fb page along with other animals that were spay/neutered that same week. If ALGONQUIN sounds like he’d suit your home and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him. It should be noted that puppies personalities can change daily/weekly as their little brains develop. We try to keep our puppy postings as up-to-date as possible but due to their development, it’s not always possible to note 100% accurate behavioural information.  * He’ll receive his second vaccine and it will be covered by his adoption fee.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 22, 2026, 9:52 pm

Story
Meet Bairn, an energetic and enthusiastic dog in search of an active, confident owner. Bairn has a zest for life and loves to stay busy, whether it’s going for runs, long walks, swimming, or cuddling with his favorite people. He thrives on learning new things and is a quick learner—definitely a smart cookie! Bairn is reactive to new people, other dogs, and some vehicles, so he will need to be walked with a muzzle as a precaution. However, his reactivity can be managed with consistent training, energy-draining activities, keeping a safe distance from triggers, and positive reinforcement for good behavior. When his mind is engaged and his energy is properly channeled, Bairn is much more balanced and in control. This wonderful boy will need a dedicated owner who is committed to continuing his training and giving him the structure he needs. While Bairn may not be immediately friendly with new people, he just needs time and slow, controlled introductions to build trust. Once he bonds with you, he’ll show you his goofy, lovable side. Bairn is looking for a home with a fully fenced yard, where he can thrive in a calm and structured environment. He would do best in a home without small children or other dogs. With patience and understanding, Bairn will prove to be the best companion you could ask for!

Story
George is a two-year-old male, roughly 45 pounds. He is a cross of some kind, perhaps between a border collie and some sort of hound? He is dignified, polite, intelligent, good-natured, loves to run and play and have his belly rubbed: he shows affection quietly, by coming and placing his head against you. He is neutered, microchipped and house-trained. He is very good with people, and generally with other dogs, at least off-leash. He can panic, however, on-leash, if he gets in close quarters with another dog. We think he must have broken his left hind foot at some point in the past: it has healed, and he can run very fast on it, but occasionally favours it, and has begun to develop arthritis. He currently lives with 2 dogs listed on our site: Pipo and Karti. George and Pipo are especially good together.  George's ideal home would be one with people who are calm and are experienced with large dogs. One where he's allowed on the couch and bed. His foster home is in  midtown Toronto.  Due to time constraints, we cannot respond to every email asking for more information on a dog. Please carefully review the bio for the dog and our adoption process https://www.speakingofdogs.com/adoption/adoption-process/.  If you are still interested in adopting, please fill out the adoption application form at the bottom of that page.August 22, 2026, 4:18 pm

Story
Meet Dalgom – A Sweet & Social 3-Month-Old Puppy!   Name: Dalgom Age: 3 months Sex: Male Neutered: No – too young Breed: Jindo / Border Collie Mix Color: Black & White Weight: 6.4 kg (14 lbs) Height: 35 cm (13.8 in) at the shoulder   Rescue Story Dalgom was found all alone in a cage near a rural reservoir, left outside under the scorching sun. Thankfully, someone spotted him and reached out for help, allowing this little puppy to be rescued and given a chance at a safe and happy life.   ‍‍ Personality & People Dalgom is an incredibly friendly and affectionate puppy who loves people! He happily approaches both familiar faces and complete strangers, rubbing against them for attention and allowing himself to be petted right away.   He is comfortable with both men and women and can easily be picked up and held. He’s so trusting that he’ll even show his belly to someone he has just met.   With Other Dogs Dalgom is just as social with dogs as he is with people. He readily approaches unfamiliar dogs to say hello and invite them to play, and he gets along well with dogs both bigger and smaller than himself.   He enjoys playing with energetic dogs and generally avoids conflict if another dog tries to provoke him. He’s a happy, playful little guy who loves having canine friends.   With Cats Dalgom has not yet been observed around cats, but a cat test can be arranged upon request.   Energy Level Dalgom has a moderate puppy energy level. He enjoys being active and playing, but once he’s had his fun, he settles down nicely and rests. Like most puppies his age, he also sleeps quite a bit.   Walks Dalgom has not started regular walks yet, as he is still completing his puppy vaccinations and has currently received his second round.   Food & Other Behaviours Dalgom does not generally guard food from people or other dogs. He can usually eat peacefully around other dogs, although occasional puppy disagreements over food bowls can happen. He does not initiate conflict, but may respond if another dog challenges him.   He currently whines quite a bit when placed in a crate, so he is being introduced to crate training gradually and positively.   House Training Dalgom currently uses indoor pee pads and is also able to eliminate outdoors. As he is only 3 months old, his house-training skills are still developing.   Ideal Home Dalgom is a young puppy with a wonderfully social, affectionate nature and lots of growing and learning ahead of him. He would do best with a family ready to continue his puppy training, socialization, leash training, and crate training with patience and consistency.   If you’re looking for a sweet, friendly little companion who loves both people and dogs, Dalgom may be the perfect addition to your family. Story
Meet Kongi – A Quiet Soul with a Gentle Heart    Name: Kongi Age: 4 years Sex: Spayed Female Breed: Border Collie Mix Color: Black & White Weight: 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs) Height: 48 cm (19 in)   Kongi is the loving mother of Haeon and Jaban, who have already found their forever homes in Canada. On February 26, 2025, Kongi was rescued after being found chained up in an industrial area where she had given birth to her puppies. Despite her difficult past, she has grown into a gentle, affectionate dog who is now ready to find a family of her own.    People Kongi can be a little reserved when meeting new people, but she’s easily won over with treats and warms up quickly. She isn’t fearful of strangers—she simply has a calm, independent personality and doesn’t immediately shower everyone with affection. Once she trusts you, however, she’s incredibly sweet and affectionate.   She is currently living with a boy under the age of 13 and the two are best friends. She’s comfortable being gently picked up with an arm under her belly and happily rolls over to show her tummy to the people she loves.    With Other Dogs Kongi is polite and social with other dogs. She enjoys greeting them but rarely chooses to play, preferring to mind her own business. She tends to feel intimidated by dogs much larger than herself but is friendly with dogs of a similar size. Even when another dog acts rudely, Kongi usually chooses to walk away instead of reacting.    With Cats When she sees cats on walks, she’s curious but easily redirects her attention and follows her handler without any issues.    Energy Level Kongi has a moderate energy level. She enjoys outdoor activities and walks, but once she’s had her exercise, she’s happy to relax quietly at home.    Walking Kongi can pull on the leash at times, but she’s attentive to her handler and is gentle enough to be walked by children. She does have a sensitive side and may freeze or lie down when something scares her. Busy roads with heavy traffic can sometimes make her nervous.    More About Kongi   Fully outdoor potty trained. Very quiet and rarely barks. Calm and well-behaved in a crate. Can jump in and out of the car by herself.   Kongi doesn’t guard food from people, but she may give a warning growl if another dog approaches while she’s eating. She has never shown aggression.   Car rides aren’t her favorite. She may have had a negative experience with vehicles in the past, as she tends to avoid cars in parking lots. She also experiences motion sickness and may drool or vomit during longer rides, so her future family should be prepared to help her feel comfortable while traveling.   Kongi is the kind of dog who doesn’t demand attention—she quietly earns your heart. She’s gentle, loyal, thoughtful, and incredibly rewarding once you’ve earned her trust. After spending her life caring for her puppies, it’s finally Kongi’s turn to be someone’s beloved family member.
