Meet Dalgom – A Sweet & Social 3-Month-Old Puppy! Name: Dalgom Age: 3 months Sex: Male Neutered: No – too young Breed: Jindo / Border Collie Mix Color: Black & White Weight: 6.4 kg (14 lbs) Height: 35 cm (13.8 in) at the shoulder Rescue Story Dalgom was found all alone in a cage near a rural reservoir, left outside under the scorching sun. Thankfully, someone spotted him and reached out for help, allowing this little puppy to be rescued and given a chance at a safe and happy life. ‍‍ Personality & People Dalgom is an incredibly friendly and affectionate puppy who loves people! He happily approaches both familiar faces and complete strangers, rubbing against them for attention and allowing himself to be petted right away. He is comfortable with both men and women and can easily be picked up and held. He’s so trusting that he’ll even show his belly to someone he has just met. With Other Dogs Dalgom is just as social with dogs as he is with people. He readily approaches unfamiliar dogs to say hello and invite them to play, and he gets along well with dogs both bigger and smaller than himself. He enjoys playing with energetic dogs and generally avoids conflict if another dog tries to provoke him. He’s a happy, playful little guy who loves having canine friends. With Cats Dalgom has not yet been observed around cats, but a cat test can be arranged upon request. Energy Level Dalgom has a moderate puppy energy level. He enjoys being active and playing, but once he’s had his fun, he settles down nicely and rests. Like most puppies his age, he also sleeps quite a bit. Walks Dalgom has not started regular walks yet, as he is still completing his puppy vaccinations and has currently received his second round. Food & Other Behaviours Dalgom does not generally guard food from people or other dogs. He can usually eat peacefully around other dogs, although occasional puppy disagreements over food bowls can happen. He does not initiate conflict, but may respond if another dog challenges him. He currently whines quite a bit when placed in a crate, so he is being introduced to crate training gradually and positively. House Training Dalgom currently uses indoor pee pads and is also able to eliminate outdoors. As he is only 3 months old, his house-training skills are still developing. Ideal Home Dalgom is a young puppy with a wonderfully social, affectionate nature and lots of growing and learning ahead of him. George is a two-year-old male, roughly 45 pounds. He is a cross of some kind, perhaps between a border collie and some sort of hound? He is dignified, polite, intelligent, good-natured, loves to run and play and have his belly rubbed: he shows affection quietly, by coming and placing his head against you. He is neutered, microchipped and house-trained. He is very good with people, and generally with other dogs, at least off-leash. He can panic, however, on-leash, if he gets in close quarters with another dog. We think he must have broken his left hind foot at some point in the past: it has healed, and he can run very fast on it, but occasionally favours it, and has begun to develop arthritis. He currently lives with 2 dogs listed on our site: Pipo and Karti. George and Pipo are especially good together. George's ideal home would be one with people who are calm and are experienced with large dogs. One where he's allowed on the couch and bed. His foster home is in midtown Toronto. ORRIEOrrie's story starts with a young woman with big dreams, who started a dog rescue full of promise, on a ranch she rented with her husband, in the middle of rural Nowheresville, Texas. They pulled dogs from the same high-kill shelter we do, and brought them to the property to wait to be adopted. For a while the pace of adoptions was brisk, and most dogs didn't spend more than a few weeks there. From the outside, they seemed to be a perfect couple fully immersed in rescue...until one day things fell apart, and the woman packed up and split, leaving her husband behind to look after and rehome over 30 newly rescued shelter dogs. Two of those dogs, a heeler female and a Great Pyrenees/lab mix male, both still intact, were accidentally put into the same dog run. Unsurprisingly, several weeks later, the number of dogs on the property grew by 11 blond, speckled puppies. One of them was Orrie (first dubbed Guinness). Soon after that, we were asked to take on the support all those dogs and find them homes. Of course we said yes.We wish we could say we immediately took that young family out of the yard and put them into a warm and loving foster home, but we didn't have one of those for 11 growing puppies. This is the reality of dog rescue. At the time, we already had over 40 dogs in our care. In one fell swoop, we instantly doubled our roster -- just as adoptions were grinding to a standstill all over the world as COVID lockdowns were ending and millions of people were going back into the office for workdays, many of them giving up the dogs they'd adopted during the pandemic. Thus this family of puppies spent the first few months of their lives playing by themselves in their quiet, rural yard, venturing out into the world only to go to the vet for their vaccines. They had no one to expose them to the sights and sounds of suburban life, no one to take them out on leash walks to learn to navigate busy sidewalks, no one to reassure them when they were scared. Orrie was one of the first of the litter to be adopted and went straight from the ranch in Texas to his new home in the middle a bustling Ontario town.We know now that this was not a good match for our little Orrie. His lovely new family gave him loads of time and space to settle in, letting him determine what boundaries he was ready to cross. He warmed up to the children and got comfortable in the home. They did research, learned his triggers, hired a trainer, changed their routine...for 2 years they did everything reasonable to help him overcome his deep-seated fearfulness. Recently Orrie made it clear that he's reached his limit and has had enough. He just hates living in town, hates it with every fibre of his being. He is BEGGING not to be forced to go on walks on streets full of things that terrify him. Every time he goes out the front door, he's ready to have a breakdown.He is timid, but a goofy guy nonetheless! He loves to be close to his people, playing tug or chasing a ball, or snuggling at the end of a day of fun. Hes leash trained and likes to hike in quiet places, away from city noises. Hes very food motivated and loves to learn new tricks and show off the ones he knows. CARAMEL | 5 years old | 37 lb | Very friendly and sweet | Toronto Some dogs have a harder start in life than others, and Caramel is one of them. A cancer survivor, Caramel had TVT, a fully curable form of canine cancer. She is now cancer-free and safe in foster care, but she still needs a family to give her the happy second chapter she deserves. Caramel is affectionate, playful and full of love. She has a wonderful smile, loves fetch and enjoys both hiking and couch cuddles. She's great with other dogs, housetrained, good in the car and eager to learn. She can also be your one and only. Despite her difficult past, Caramel is a happy, loving girl who enjoys people, playtime and life's simple pleasures. She would love a fenced yard in a quieter area where she can safely explore and chase squirrels. Caramel has survived the hard part. Now she needs someone to show her what being truly loved feels like. Five years were missed. Let's make every year ahead amazing. If Caramel could be your girl, please reach out.
