Story
COURTESY POST Millie needs a new home. Please reach out if you'd like to be considered as her new family. She's a very sweet girl who needs to be the only dog in the home. Name: Millie Age: 6 years Breed: Border Collie / German Shepherd Mix Gender: Female Weight: 50 pounds Location: Orangeville Spayed/neutered: Yes Up to date on vaccines: Yes, as of April 2024 Millie is an incredibly loving dog who has a way of creeping into everyone's heart. She's loyal, smart, and full of energy, always ready to play or go for a walk. Through all times of pain and sickness, she's been right by our side as a constant comfort. Behaviour with kids: Millie does wonderfully with children. She's patient, gentle, and loves playing with our small child. Behaviour with other dogs: Millie has an anxious nature and often tries to control her environment to help ease her anxiety. She has a high prey drive, and when overwhelmed, her ability to think clearly is affected. She's protective of her space and can become reactive if she feels threatened by other dogs. To help manage this, she is fully crate trained and trained to use a "place" cot. Behaviour with cats: Millie is good with cats. Other behavioural concerns: Millie's journey hasn't been easy, and she's faced some challenges, but she's also made incredible progress. Her recent 7-week board and train program helped her learn how to regulate her nervous system, build confidence, and stay calm in public. For Millie to continue thriving, she needs a loving home that understands her and can continue to support the foundation of her training. Medical issues or concerns: Millie has an allergy to poultry that causes skin irritation, so we keep her on a raw diet of ground beef with veggies + supplements. This has worked well for her, and she's had no issues since we made the switch. Ideal home: Millie would thrive in a peaceful home where she can be the only pet, surrounded by people who love her as much as she loves them. A large yard or property would be perfect for her to run, play, and explore—she's happiest when she has a purpose. She loves long walks, engaging play sessions, and her quiet time in her crate, which helps her feel safe and relaxed. She's also comfortable in her crate for extended hours during the day, making her a great companion for owners who don't work from home. Millie is the kind of dog who changes your life for the better. She's an exceptionally loyal companion who loves with all her heart. If you think you could be the one to give Millie the love and stability she deserves, please reach out. We know she has so much more love to give, and we're hopeful to find a family who will cherish her. If you'd be interested in adopting Millie, please send us a message at adoptions@pawsacrossthewater.ca

Story
🐾🌈 Hi, I’m Sky the Border Collie, a 3-year-old girl with a heart as big as my smile! 🐶 I’ve had a ruff start, but I’m ready to leap into a life of love and belly rubs. 🏠 I’m a tad shy, but a treat 🍖 is the key to my heart, and I’ll be your shadow in no time, showing you my belly for some good ol’ scratches. 🥰 I haven’t played with kiddos yet, but I’m keen to learn if they’re gentle. 🧒 I’m looking for a home where I can be the star pup, as I prefer not to share the spotlight with other doggos. 🌟 I love frolicking outdoors 🌳 and then curling up for some zen time at home. 🛋️ Loud noises and fast cars make me a bit jumpy, but I promise to be brave with you by my side. 🚗 I’m not one to guard my food, but I do have a voice and I’m not afraid to use it when I want some cuddles or playtime. 🗣️ I’m a dream on the leash and a champ in the kennel, waiting patiently for our adventures together. 🐾 If you’re ready for a furry friend who’s all about affection, treats, and peaceful vibes, let’s meet and start our forever friendship! 💕

Story
🐾 Hi there! I’m Joy! 🐾 I’m a lovely 3-year-old Border Collie mix with a beautiful black and white coat. I weigh 11 kg, making me the perfect size for all kinds of adventures! 🥰 My Story: I was rescued just in time from a kill center, and now I’m looking for my forever home where I can share all my love and joy. 💖 My Personality: I’m very affectionate and love to rub against people, whether I know them or not. I’m always ready for some pets! 🐶 You can lift me by putting your arm under my belly. I’m easy to handle! 🪶 Once I get to know you, I’ll happily show you my belly. It’s my way of saying I trust you! 🐾 I love meeting new dogs and always ask them to play. I’m a friendly girl! 🐕 I might need a bit of caution when meeting new dogs for the first time, especially if toys or snacks are involved. 🧸 When I see a cat during a walk, I stay focused on my human. Cats don’t distract me! 🐱 I enjoy outdoor activities and have a normal energy level. After a fun time outside, I like to rest quietly. 🌳 I tend to pull on the leash a bit, but I generally follow my human well. 🚶‍♂️ I don’t guard my food against people, but I might growl if another dog approaches me while I’m eating. 🍽️ I’m very calm in a kennel and know how to get in and out of a car by myself. 🚗 I generally only do my business outside. 🚽 Fun Facts: I’m people-friendly and get along with strangers easily. 🥰 I used to guard resources, but I’m much better now. My new family should be firm when giving me snacks or toys. 🍖 I might try to bite a stranger’s hand if I’m in a kennel, but that’s because I was traumatized while moving to a training center. 🏡 I don’t show any behavior issues at the training center, but I might need some time to adjust in a new place. 🐾 I’m looking for a loving home where I can continue to grow and share my affection. If you think we could be a perfect match, please come meet me! 🏡💕

Story
Blaze arrived in rescue from a puppy mill.  He's now approximately 6 months  old and approx 40lbs, we were told a mix of Collie, maybe Border Collie.   He was adopted and returned because he has become too much energy and roughhousing play for their cats.  He's doing great in his temp foster and is already learning from foster mom's other dogs.  He's a terrific guy with the right family.   He arrived with the tip of his tail missing but has long since healed.     Blaze is crate trained and housetrained.  He was sleeping in a crate at night in the kitchen with his first family.  He needs work on leash walking, he is a puller.   Blaze likes toys, and games of (gentle) tug. He has good energy and would be a great match for an active family; he's a bright bulb and picks up training quickly. He's completed puppy training classes and is ready to move up to the next level of training. He'd be a fun and successful dog for someone who loves to work on tricks, training and even sports!   He's learning how to read other dogs better and is getting a good refresher at the doggy daycare.  He is learning better greeting skills with dogs his own size and larger, he takes it in stride and does listen to them. He needs supervision around smaller dogs - and has been told off a few times by small dogs who don't appreciate his unfettered, invasive approach.  He has no malice just an abundance of exuberance and inexperience and maybe misguided herding instincts (?)   He's a fine young boy, but needs a home without cats and without small dogs who would find him overwhelming.  He's great with people.  If you are interested in adding Blaze to your family, please fill out our adoption application at: https://www.speakingofdogs.com/adoption/dog-adoption-application-2/September 5, 2024, 7:30 am

Story
I'm Bandit, and I'm on a journey to find a forever family that will appreciate my loyalty and dedication. While I've had my share of challenges, I'm working hard on becoming the best version of myself, and I'm ready for the next adventure in life. I was surrendered to Dog Tales because I was protective of my family. It takes me some time to warm up to new people, but I've been putting in the effort and making lots of progress in my training. I'm a smart pup who's eager to learn and please my humans. I need a family who is committed to continuing my training journey, and I promise to give it my all. With the right guidance, I know I can be the best companion you've ever had. I can be selective with dogs, so it's important that any potential canine companions are a good fit for my personality. Plenty of playtime and fetch sessions are a must—I absolutely love playing with my people. I'm a pup who's always ready for the next adventure. Whether it's a game of fetch, a hike in the woods, or simply enjoying quality time together, I'm up for it. I'm excited to share my love, loyalty, and intelligence with a family who will appreciate all that I have to offer. If you're willing to invest time and effort into helping me become the best dog I can be, then together, we can create a future filled with love, training successes, and exciting adventures.

Story
This energetic boy is looking for a confident and active owner. Bairn is high energy and loves to keep busy! He enjoys going for runs, long walks, swimming and cuddling with his people. Bairn thrives with constant training and loves to learn new things - he is such a smarty pants! He is reactive to new people, dogs and some vehicles; he will need to be walked on a muzzle as a precaution. Bairn’s reactivity is decreased greatly with a combination of: draining his energy, always keeping distance from triggers, positive reinforcement for good behaviour, and constant training on his walks to occupy his mind and keep him in control. Bairn will need a dedicated owner to continue this with him long term. Bairn is not friendly with new people and will need slow controlled interactions when introducing him to a new person. Once he can trust you, he is a lovable and goofy guy. Patience and understanding can go a long way with Bairn and, in time, he will prove he is the best boy! He is only suitable in a house with a fully fenced yard with no small children or other dogs.

Story
Millie has been our loyal and loving companion for over 6 years. Sadly, she no longer gets along with our other dog, and we now face the difficult task of finding her a new forever home. We acquired Millie from a Kijiji listing when she was just 6 weeks old. She’s a high-energy dog who would thrive on a property with a sizeable yard where she can roam and play freely. Being part Collie, Millie needs purpose. She thrives with daily long walks (at least 20 minutes) and engaging play sessions with her new owner—whether it’s fetch, tug, or using a flirt pole. Millie’s journey hasn’t been easy, and she’s faced some challenges, but she’s also made incredible progress. Her recent 7-week board and train program helped her learn how to regulate her nervous system, build confidence, and stay calm in public.
