Story
Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly… A loyal friend and a doting mother, this sleek, sassy rescue has so much to offer. Blackbird was rescued by Karnes County Humane Organization when she was heavily pregnant. Just a day after arriving at SNIPSA, she decided that she was safe and laid seven little eggs! Now, she and her family are cozied up in foster care, but her babies are getting ready to leave the nest. It’s safe to say this Blackbird won’t be down for long. Now that her puppies are stretching their wings, Blackbird is searching for a new family that can give her the love and support she craves. Here are a few reasons why she would make the perfect birdie for your living room: -She is a velcro dog who will stick right by your side -She is ultra-supportive and will never argue with you -She likes to show off her tummy in exchange for belly rubs -She is sweet towards other animals, even cats -She is an easy keep – quiet, well-behaved, and sociable! Blackbird is a young girl at one and six months old. She has so many songs to sing, places to explore, and people to meet. Are you ready to wing it with the sweetest girl in the world? Apply to meet Blackbird today!

Story
Cowgirl is our sweet southern belle with a heart as big as Texas itself. This 5-year-old Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix has been through quite the journey. She arrived at SNIPSA with her rodeo of puppies, who have since all found their forever homes. Unbeknownst to us, Cowgirl was in heart failure. At first, we thought it simply might be related to her heartworm disease, and later discovered, after a series of diagnostics, that she was simply born with a crummy heart. We consulted with a cardiologist and developed a medical plan where she is being managed with medication and diuretics, and thanks to her caring foster mom, she’s doing wonderfully! In fact, she is doing so well, she has grown into her girlish figure and lives for zoomies in the backyard. She has a hearty appetite and enjoys spending time with the other resident foster dog. She has developed quite the relationship with her foster mom and follows her everywhere. Cowgirl is great with children, other dogs, and doesn’t even mind the resident cat. She may sneak a French Fry, but we aren’t getting worked up. We are just so happy she is feeling so much better!! While we understand most potential adopters will overlook this sunshiny girl, we are hanging onto hope that someone sees the hope. She may have two years or five years, we don’t have that guarantee. But we will do everything we can to ensure her care, quality of life, and hope that there is an adopter out there that sees her beauty.

Story
I found her on the streets before a freeze in 2024. Went to the vet got her chip info and tried to contact her owner that I found her. They unfortunately did not want her back and let her lose. I have access to change her chip info to a new owners name and I have nursed her back to a healthy weight and become a happy loving dog.

Good with kids, Good with dogs, Not good with cats,
Story
I was walking in a city park yesterday, and a dehydrated, malnourished, about 3–4 months old, rushed towards me. She was very friendly, very thirsty, and bouncing around, approaching other walkers with dogs. (An aggressive Pit Bull tried to attack her.) I managed to get her home, thinking I could find a shelter that would take her. Unfortunately, I had no luck, and after 24 hours, I realized I could not foster her. She is about 3 to 4 months old. I am 81 years old; live alone with an old Border Collie and two old cats. The cats are terrified of her, so I have had to lock them in a room; she wants to play with my old dog, who is so arthritic and really not in a position to play with a puppy. And that's the problem, she's a puppy with all the puppy playfulness, and accompanying energy that I just can't handle. She has to be accompanied outside, as my yard is not escape-proof. Please help.

Story
Citrus got real for this girl when she found herself roaming Karnes County just before the Texas freeze. Luckily, Clementine was plucked from the streets just in time, and she is now learning all about the joys of being a house dog. Clementine was in heat, heartworm positive, and afraid of humans when she was found. Now in foster care with SNIPSA, she is getting healthier by the day and is eager to domesticate herself! Cold, hard sidewalks are nothing but a memory–big meals, soft blankets, and bear hugs have warmed her heart in record time. Clementine already walks on her leash like a pro, and she even gives shy kisses to her human friends. This girl hasn’t been in the rescue world long, but with a little bit of love and patience, Clementine’s secret sweetness will burst forth for the world to see. She is only two years old, so she’s got a long shelf life, too! Apply to meet Clementine–she’s ripe to meet you!!!
