Story
Meet Nala, our resident beefcake with a heart of gold. 💪💖Nala is strong, solid, and impressive at first glance — but give her a moment and you’ll see what she really is: a total love bug who just wants affection, reassurance, and someone to call her own. She does best as the only pet in the home, but she’s great with children and thrives on human companionship. Her past hasn’t been kind. Nala came to the shelter emaciated, after spending much of her life locked in a crate, with painful urine-scalded feet and legs. Despite everything she endured, she never lost her gentle spirit or her desire to trust people. She’s had professional training, giving her a solid foundation, and she wants so badly to do the right thing. After waiting at the shelter for quite some time, Nala finally found a home — only to be returned recently due to her adopter experiencing serious health issues. Through no fault of her own, she’s back, confused and waiting again.Nala has already survived more than any dog should have to. What she needs now is stability, patience, and someone who will see past her muscles to the soft heart underneath. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion and can offer her a pet-free home, Nala is ready to love you with her whole big body and even bigger heart. 🐾More information? Story
Emerging from the depths of her enchanted kiddie pool, Vada the Troll Queen is here to claim your backyard, your hose, and your heart. This mischievous little gremlin is equal parts sass, splash, and snuggle (on her terms, of course). She’s a one-of-a-kind, hose-chasing, Kong-chomping legend—and she’s looking for a loyal human to serve as her humble subject.Vada’s ideal kingdom includes: • A hose with good water pressure (the royal fountain, obviously) • A steady supply of Kongs (the sacred treasure of her people) • Zero other dogs (she’s a solo troll, thank you very much) • Cats who know their place (bow or be batted at) • Minimal manfolk (she finds them suspicious)She may be wary of strange humans (especially tall, loud ones), but once you’re accepted into her inner swamp circle, Vada is fiercely loyal and surprisingly sweet. She’ll keep your yard safe from rogue sprinklers, overconfident squirrels, and any unauthorized lawn gnomes.Vada is not here to win “Miss Congeniality.” She’s here to rule, splash, and chew rubbery things until they squeak no more. If you’re looking for a gentle, dainty flower—keep walking. But if you’re ready to bow before the chaos goblin queen and laugh every day at her swampy shenanigans, your highness awaits.Long live Vada. Bring snacks.More information? Story
Kane is a handsome older Boxer mix who is ready to trade in the hustle of his past for the comfort of a loving forever home. Life didn’t always treat him kindly, but you’d never know it from his gentle spirit and hopeful heart. Kane has held onto his sweetness through it all, and now he’s just looking for a soft place to land where he can truly relax and be loved the way he deserves. This sweet senior boy is all about the simple things—cozy beds, kind words, and being close to his people. He’s past the puppy chaos and would much rather spend his days soaking up affection, enjoying leisurely strolls, and just being your loyal companion. Kane has so much love left to give and is ready to spend his golden years making up for lost time. The shelter can be reached at 937-498-7201 to schedule a time to meet. Or please feel free to come in during business hours. The shelter is open Monday-Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9am-1pm. Open kennel hours are Monday-Friday 12-4 and Saturday by appointment. Story
Sweet Anna was born in our care on March 17, 2026. A Happy Saint Patrick's Day surprise!! Anna's mom is in our care and looks like a Boxer mix, maybe with some pug or some English bulldog. The dad is unknown. Whatever the mix, these puppies are sweet, healthy and smart! They are all well socialized with people and with other dogs. We estimate that Anna will be a medium sized girlie full grown (about 40 lbs).If you are looking for a sweet, playful, cuddly puppy apply to meet Anna at www.ricopetrecovery.org. She is sure to keep you laughing with her silly puppy antics!Anna received her first vaccines on May 13, and will be ready to go to her forever home after she receives her second vaccines in about 3 weeks. The adoption fee for Anna is $350 and includes the first two sets of vaccines, spay and microchip at our partner veterinarian when she is old enough to be spayed. The adopter is responsible for the third and fourth sets of puppy vaccines and any additional vet care.
