Story
Meet Heather!  Heather was found abandoned on the side of a road in southern Ohio during on of the hottest weeks of the summer. She was so weak she could barely move, and the pads of her feet were painfully burned from the scorching pavement.Fast forward several weeks and Heather is now available for adoption. Heather is thought to be a medium to large breed mix - she looks like a boxer mix with a more furry coat. She currently weighs 50 pounds and our veterinarian estimated her to be about 7-9 months old. Heather LOVES other dogs but would do best in a home without cats. Heather is a bit timid when she meets new humans, but warms up quickly. She is fine with older kids, but is afraid of the littles. So a home with only older kids would be best. Overall, she has a very sweet demeanor and playful spirit.Heather is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Apply to meet Heather at ricopetrecovery.org. The adoption fee for Heather is $350.

Story
🥰 This beautiful girl is Cocoa. Cocoa is 6 years old and has a pure velvet coat. She is very smart and PERFECTLY house trained. She has not had any accidents, has no desire to get on furniture, she is curious, but not at all destructive.  🧸 She is also a very gentle dog that loves her toys, but does not destroy them. She can “sit” and give you her paw like a champ. Cocoa would love an active family that would take her for car rides, hikes and runs. She is an athletic girl that excels at ZOOMIES and TWIRLS.  Cocoa needs some leash work and would need slow introductions to new dogs. 🙏Please consider fostering or fostering to adopt Cocoa so she can continue her great progress! Apply to meet Cocoa at ricopetrecovery.org

Story
🩷Meet Ophelia🩷Ophelia found herself in a county shelter that does not keep puppies for long. On top of that, Ophelia had a limp and was intermittently using one of her back legs. Once in our care, Ophelia’s limp was evaluated by our vet and in addition to be abandoned, she also had broken femur that healed before we were able to help. This special girl will always have a special little limp.  Ophelia is a world-class snuggler and would love a home with lots of empty laps, loving sibling dogs and soft cuddly blankets. She has experienced how living on cold cement floors behind bars feels and never wants to go back. Ophelia is 11 weeks old and 8.6 pounds - so she will most likely be on the smaller side.  Apply to meet her at ricopetrecovery.org.  Adoption fee is $350 and includes first 2 sets of vaccines, spay and microhip at our partner veterinarian when she is old enough to be spayed at our partner veterinarian. The adopter is responsible for the third and fourth boosters at their own veterinarian.

Story
Liberty BelleFemaleD.O.B. 5/1/2026Expected Full-Grown Weight: 65-75 lbsBreed: Boxer Mix Hi, I’m Liberty Belle, but my friends call me Belle! I’m an athletic, enthusiastic, and curious puppy who loves watching, learning, exploring, and being part of the action. I’m good with dogs, cats, and kids. I currently live with other dogs of different sizes and two cats, and I do well with everyone. Since I’m still young, I’m working on house training and leash walking, and I do need to be crated when left alone for short periods of time. I’m also learning that when the bells on the door ring, it’s time to go outside. I love toys — especially anything that squeaks! In the morning, I like to pull squeaky toys from the toy bin and carry them to my favorite spot on the couch. I also love playing in the kiddy pool, splashing my paws, fishing toys out of the water, and carrying them around the yard. When I get excited, I love to zoom around in big, fast circles. I’m a strong, muscular little girl with impressive jumping skills, and I’ve even tried to parkour my way through flower pots and across the garden. I’m playful and busy, so while I don’t mind being held or carried, I usually have places to go, toys to play with, and adventures to start. I’m affectionate too! I love couch cuddles and especially like to be the big spoon, nosing my way between my person and the back of the couch so I can snuggle in close. I’m also attentive and take cues from my people. If another dog barks at something outside, I look to my foster dad first to see how he reacts. I like to taste-test treats before fully committing, but cream cheese was a big hit when it came time to take my monthly flea, tick, and heartworm pill. If you’re looking for a fun, smart, active puppy who loves toys, cuddles, zoomies, and exploring the world, I might just be your Girl. If you are interested in meeting Belle apply to adopt her at www.causeforcanines.org Adoption fee: $395. Must be an Ohio resident & 23 or older. Children must be 5 or older. ##2778277##

Story
Meet Nala, our resident beefcake with a heart of gold. 💪💖Nala is strong, solid, and impressive at first glance — but give her a moment and you’ll see what she really is: a total love bug who just wants affection, reassurance, and someone to call her own. She does best as the only pet in the home, but she’s great with children and thrives on human companionship. Her past hasn’t been kind. Nala came to the shelter emaciated, after spending much of her life locked in a crate, with painful urine-scalded feet and legs. Despite everything she endured, she never lost her gentle spirit or her desire to trust people. She’s had professional training, giving her a solid foundation, and she wants so badly to do the right thing. After waiting at the shelter for quite some time, Nala finally found a home — only to be returned recently due to her adopter experiencing serious health issues. Through no fault of her own, she’s back, confused and waiting again.Nala has already survived more than any dog should have to. What she needs now is stability, patience, and someone who will see past her muscles to the soft heart underneath. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion and can offer her a pet-free home, Nala is ready to love you with her whole big body and even bigger heart. 🐾More information? Story
Meet Whistle! Whistle absolutely loves his people and is happiest when he's getting snuggles or spending time playing with someone in the yard. He's an active pup who enjoys stretching his legs. On walks he does beautifully, pulling very little or not at all. When playtime comes around, you'll find him happily nudging his favorite herding balls around the yard like a game of doggy soccer! While Whistle enjoys his cozy blankets and leaves them nicely intact, he still will need a bit of house training. The good news? He's very treat motivated and eager to please, with consistency and with some tasty rewards he should adjust to home life wonderfully. Whistle would do best as the only pet in the home, as he has a history of being very reactive towards other dogs and has not done well with cats. Because of this, he'll need a home where he can be safely secured and be the center of attention. If you are looking for a loyal companion who will happily trade soccer games in the yard for snuggles on the couch, Whistle may be the perfect match for you! If you are interested in fostering or adopting Whistle, please fill out an application!
