MERCEDES - 10+ years old, 45 pounds, house trained, crate trained, friendly, moderate energy   Mercedes is a sweet senior girl looking for a calm, cuddly retirement home.    She was adopted from us a long time ago but has found her way back after her most recent owners had to surrender her due to apartment restrictions.    She is house trained and loves going for walks.   Mercedes has moderate energy so running and playing last only so long. I was happy to see some of that energy when we were together. She ran around the yard jubilantly as if she were a puppy.   Her smile made me smile and it will do the same to you!  Oh, and she was perfect on the leash, too!   Mercedes prefers older kids as she is known to tolerate children along with other dogs and cats. Slow and proper introductions are important for her.   She is crate trained along with being house trained.   Come on in to meet this pretty grey muzzle girl! Bring in any resident dog for a meet and greet and please be ready to supervise.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 17, 2025, 9:39 am

DAISY MAE - 1 year old, 54 pounds, house trained,  Daisy is still a puppy at barely a year old and surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her.  She has tons of energy and is very playful.  She loves all kinds of toys, balls, squeaky, plush & tug. Although we are told she is good with children, we are recommending an adult only home as she can be rough with kids and has a tendency to guard high value items. She likes other dogs but does play very rough and will guard items from them. Daisy was barky at first but then out in the yard, she loved running and running and running, chasing tennis balls, stopping for treats and then running and chasing some more. Daisy Mae is looking for a very active family who will provide plenty of exercise, playtime and training to help curb some of her guarding issues. She is a hoot and in the right home, she will thrive. Daisy Mae is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel so just ask to meet her!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 21, 2025, 10:54 am

BOLT - 3 years old, 60 pounds, house trained, good with kids, dog selective, no cats Bolt is a young, handsome, large mixed breed boy. His black thick fur is soft. He has pretty amber eyes and along with white on his chest, he has a touch of white on a couple of his paws. Arriving bc his owner was in the military and had no one else to care for him, Bolt is nervous behind the cage bars. He stares and backs away. Once outside, however, he is a fun and friendly boy. He came right up to me, sniffed and licked my hand. So silly! It took him a few minutes to get used to the other dogs in playgroup. He let them know when they were too much for him.  *We vet our playgroup dogs so they all listened to him and backed away when he corrected them. After a short time, he was initiating chasing play with others. *We are recommending Bolt be an only pet. He has been known to get into trouble if left unattended so crate training is a good idea as he will steal food from counter tops and chew up paper. Bolt loves to play with toys including balls and tough toys. He will rip up stuffed ones. Bolt is currently in a back kennel so if you come in and don't see him, please just ask!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 19, 2025, 3:03 pm

Story
Meet Buddy, a lovable 5-year-old Boxer mix with a heart as big as his adorable, expressive ears. Those ears are truly the cutest — always perked up and ready to listen, especially when you’re talking to him. His sweet, affectionate personality shines through in everything he does. Buddy can be dog selective, so he would do best as the only dog in the home or with calm introductions. He thrives when he has clear boundaries and structure. Buddy would do best in a household with older children who understand how to respect his space and allow him time to feel comfortable. This handsome boy is also quite the jumper! For his safety, he will need a home with a tall, secure fenced-in yard where he can play and stretch his legs without worry. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with personality, charm, and the cutest ears around, Buddy might just be your perfect match.

Story
There are some things in rescue work that are simply impossible to understand. One of those things is how anyone could throw a big, beautiful black Boxer from a moving truck and drive away.   But that is how Troy’s story began. On a quiet country road, good people working in their yard witnessed the unthinkable. They saw a truck slow down just enough to push this large dog out onto the pavement. He hit the ground on his head, dazed and bleeding, while the truck sped off without a second glance. Confused and hurting, Troy didn’t know who to trust. It took time, patience, and soft reassurance before he would allow those same strangers to help him. When he finally climbed into their backseat, his big, injured head rested in his rescuer’s lap the entire drive — seeking comfort even after such betrayal.   Physically, Troy has healed well. His wounds have closed and his strength has returned. But emotionally, you can still see that he is waiting for someone to prove that he is safe… truly safe… forever. And here is the remarkable part — Troy is an exceptional dog.   He is sweet, obedient, and wonderfully behaved in the home. He does not dig, does not climb fences, and respects his space. He wants structure, kindness, and someone to belong to. While he can coexist with some larger dogs, he would truly flourish as the only dog in the home where he doesn’t have to compete for affection. Cats are not a good match for him. A securely fenced yard would give him the freedom to stretch his legs and enjoy life while feeling protected. Troy doesn’t need pity. He needs commitment. He needs a Boxer lover who understands the loyalty and devotion this breed gives and who is ready to return that devotion tenfold. Someone who will look into his soulful eyes and promise that he will never again be discarded or unwanted. We have helped him start over. Now we are praying the right person will step forward and give him the stable, joyful future he deserves.   If you believe you could be that person for Troy, please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com     PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comFebruary 21, 2026, 12:42 pm

Story
Ruthie is a 2-year-old, 60-lb Boxer mix with a gentle soul and a brilliant mind. Before coming into rescue, Ruthie lived on her own for at least 6 months, skillfully evading capture, multiple trapping attempts, and surviving in an industrial area of town. Fed by kind mechanics and workers, she learned how to stay safe, avoid danger, and always show up for food — and that intelligence still shines through today. After a dramatic capture, Ruthie has been in a foster home, where she’s proven to be a very polite houseguest. She is fully house-trained and, even at her scariest moments, has never shown a hint of aggression — no growling, no raised lips, just fear. Ruthie is shy and deeply cautious with people, but she is sweet, gentle, and incredibly observant. We would not be surprised if Ruthie spent some of her life in someone’s home.  This brainy girl reads the room like a pro. She knows when a human might approach and will quietly skedaddle to keep herself feeling safe. While she’s still very nervous about leashes and handling, she allows most people to gently scratch her muzzle, and she’s learning — slowly but surely — that human touch isn’t such a bad thing. Watching her progress has been incredibly rewarding, especially as she’s started to enjoy ear scratches and soft affection from her foster mom. Ruthie is a great pack dog. She does beautifully with dogs of all sizes and temperaments and enjoys playful wrestling with dogs her size, but doesn’t demand play.  She happily coexists with the resident Chihuahua in her foster home. Ruthie is calm and content indoors and also enjoys a daily visit to the dog park. She’s a quiet presence who’s perfectly happy lounging on a chair, listening to her foster mom’s Zoom calls, and soaking in the safety of home life. At home, Ruthie is her foster mom’s quiet shadow. She sleeps in her room, wiggles with excitement when she comes home, follows her around the dog park — and yet may still hop off her bed and slip away if that same foster mom walks toward her for a pet. With Ruthie, trust is built in tiny, meaningful moments, and every day brings progress. Because of her history, Ruthie is a high flight-risk dog, especially in the early days. She will need a very committed adopter with a securely fenced yard, experience with fearful or flight-risk dogs, and a willingness to use safety tools like GPS collars, double leashes, and secure handling. Strength matters too — this is a 60-lb girl who needs someone confident and prepared. Ruthie has been around children at the dog park and treats them like little adults — with polite, reserved hesitation. She is food-motivated, sweet, and incredibly smart. With patience, structure, and time, she has all the makings of a truly special companion. Ruthie is one of those dogs who, with the right adopter and a few committed months of trust-building, will become a dream dog. Watching her finally relax, feel safe, and just be a dog has been an absolute privilege — and we can’t wait to see her find the forever home she deserves. ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.February 17, 2026, 10:23 pm

Story
ARIEL - 1-5 years old, 55 pounds, friendly, dog social    It took Ariel only one hot minute to drop the stiff hesitant persona after he entered our shelter playgroup and allowed others to sniff him. He then started running, chasing and playing with the others. Ariel arrived at VBACAC as a stray so we are learning as we go with this big strong boy who has the brightest of bright white and darkest of dark black fur.  He has a sweet warm expression, deep dark eyes and inviting body wiggles. He loves attention from you or another dog.  He plays well although he does love a good chase and tackle! He rolled Peaches over a few times! So silly!  Ariel is hanging in our medium dog adoption kennel waiting to meet you!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 10, 2025, 2:41 pm

Story
Kilo is a 5-6 year old, 75 pound, house-trained boy who lived with one family his entire life. He ended up in the shelter in November 2024 when his family had financial difficulties. The shelter is really wearing on him and he needs to find his forever home soon. We’ve found that for some reason, dogs with his color fur have a harder time getting adopted. But we know Kilo’s hero is out there somewhere!    We’ve really enjoyed getting to know Kilo since he came to the shelter. He’s always happy to see us and can’t wait to get out of the kennel and go on a walk.   — Kilo loves to chase balls and will even bring them back to you, but make sure you have a treat for him when he does!   — His family said he could be left alone in the house when no one was home.   — He is playful and enjoys all types of toys.   — Kilo loves to go for walks, but may need a little more leash training and will sometimes chase cats.   — Kilo previously lived in a home with no small children or other pets, and his family said this would be the best type of home for him.   Sometimes Kilo seems wary of strangers but warms up quickly when he gets to know you. If you have any questions about Kilo or want to meet him, please call 757-237-2430 to speak with a volunteer. Kilo is accepting visitors every day from 12 to 5. He’s currently in a back kennel so asked for him by name when you visit the shelter.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 20, 2025, 12:58 pm
