MERCEDES - 10+ years old, 45 pounds, house trained, crate trained, friendly, moderate energy   Mercedes is a sweet senior girl looking for a calm, cuddly retirement home.    She was adopted from us a long time ago but has found her way back after her most recent owners had to surrender her due to apartment restrictions.    She is house trained and loves going for walks.   Mercedes has moderate energy so running and playing last only so long. I was happy to see some of that energy when we were together. She ran around the yard jubilantly as if she were a puppy.   Her smile made me smile and it will do the same to you!  Oh, and she was perfect on the leash, too!   Mercedes prefers older kids as she is known to tolerate children along with other dogs and cats. Slow and proper introductions are important for her.   She is crate trained along with being house trained.   Come on in to meet this pretty grey muzzle girl! Bring in any resident dog for a meet and greet and please be ready to supervise.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 17, 2025, 9:39 am

Meet Lucca! This large handsome fella here would love the chance to be the newest addition to your family. Lucca is a fairy strong & excitable(but gentle) giant, so he does ask that any children in the home be at least 6 or older as he doesn`t always know his own size. Additionally, while Lucca does have some history with cats & dogs, he will need to meet any other dogs in the home prior to adoption. Please remember to do any introductions with either people or other animals slowly! If you would like to meet this lovely fella or if you have any questions, please speak to our kennel team & they will be happy to assist!

DAISY MAE - 1 year old, 54 pounds, house trained,  Daisy is still a puppy at barely a year old and surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her.  She has tons of energy and is very playful.  She loves all kinds of toys, balls, squeaky, plush & tug. Although we are told she is good with children, we are recommending an adult only home as she can be rough with kids and has a tendency to guard high value items. She likes other dogs but does play very rough and will guard items from them. Daisy was barky at first but then out in the yard, she loved running and running and running, chasing tennis balls, stopping for treats and then running and chasing some more. Daisy Mae is looking for a very active family who will provide plenty of exercise, playtime and training to help curb some of her guarding issues. She is a hoot and in the right home, she will thrive. Daisy Mae is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel so just ask to meet her!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 21, 2025, 10:54 am

BOLT - 3 years old, 60 pounds, house trained, good with kids, dog selective, no cats Bolt is a young, handsome, large mixed breed boy. His black thick fur is soft. He has pretty amber eyes and along with white on his chest, he has a touch of white on a couple of his paws. Arriving bc his owner was in the military and had no one else to care for him, Bolt is nervous behind the cage bars. He stares and backs away. Once outside, however, he is a fun and friendly boy. He came right up to me, sniffed and licked my hand. So silly! It took him a few minutes to get used to the other dogs in playgroup. He let them know when they were too much for him.  *We vet our playgroup dogs so they all listened to him and backed away when he corrected them. After a short time, he was initiating chasing play with others. *We are recommending Bolt be an only pet. He has been known to get into trouble if left unattended so crate training is a good idea as he will steal food from counter tops and chew up paper. Bolt loves to play with toys including balls and tough toys. He will rip up stuffed ones. Bolt is currently in a back kennel so if you come in and don't see him, please just ask!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 19, 2025, 3:03 pm

Story
Meet Champ, a sweet senior boy who was transferred to Norfolk SPCA all the way from Tennessee in hopes of finding his forever family here. He’s ready for a fresh start and a cozy place to call home. Don’t let the “senior” title fool you — Champ is super playful and absolutely loves spending time with his toys. He still has plenty of pep in his step and would happily join you for a morning trip to the dog park before heading home to nap the day away while you binge-watch your favorite TV shows. The best of both worlds. Champ does have a little wear and tear that comes with age and experience. Champ is would love to meet other dogs and children. He is eager to settle in and be someone’s loyal companion. If you’re looking for a fun-loving senior who can balance playtime with serious couch time, Champ just might be your guy.

These pups are in Virginia Beach, Virginia too!

Story
**If you have any questions about Otis after reading his profile, you can contact a volunteer at 757-237-2430 who can answer your questions.** OTIS- 6 Years Old, House Trained, Potty Trained, Crate Trained, Only Pet, Older Kids.  Otis first arrived stray back in 2019, adopted, then surrendered back to us in 2024 and has been waiting for his furever family since.  Otis is a special guy, It takes time for him to get used to new people and new environments. He will need slow and proper introductions to warm up and show you just how great of a dog he truly is.  Time has grown and so has our love for Otis, He is a staff and volunteer favorite. He has shown to be a loving, silly boy with us staff.  He has met other dogs, but he doesn't enjoy the company. He prefers to be the one and only. Although, He doesn't react to dogs in passing.  In Otis previous home he was able to free roam with no issues inside of the home, even though he is crate trained if needed.  Otis LOVES car rides and is very calm and quiet enjoying the scenery. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys! He does love being a dog and chasing small animals like squirrels and rabbits!  Otis is in a back kennel, Just ask to meet him today. Two years in a shelter is unbearable. Can you be Otis' wish upon a star?      Field Trip with Otis on 10/18/24 I took Otis to meet my daughter at the park and get pictures. He jumped up in the car and took his place, quietly taking in the scenery on the ride. At the park, he barked at my daughter when she walked up, but she threw him a slice of ham and they instantly became friends. He mostly cooperated as we positioned him for pictures, but he loved all the attention from two people. When we got back to the shelter, I took him for a walk on the back trail. He sat there for 15 minutes just taking all the smells around the lake. Otis the kind of dog that grows on you. He does not like everyone at first, and it’s random who he barks at, but when he does, give him a quality treat and he will usually warm up quickly. He loves to give and receive attention but is also happy to just sit and chill out. He loves fetch when he is in the mood, but he’s not obsessed with it and will often wind down after a few throws.  Come in and meet Otis. With a little patience and some quality treats, you will make friends quickly.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 13, 2025, 5:35 pm
