COCO - (bday 10/7/2020) 4+ years old, 60 pounds, house trained, dog social, loves her toys, no children. Coco is great! She’s loving and friendly. She loves being near her family and even sleeps in bed with them. Coco can be trusted roaming free when left alone. Such a good girl! She can get along with other dogs and enjoys playing with them.  Just don’t touch her toys. She guards her toys. This behavior can be managed. Feel free to speak with a caretaker about it. Coco is nervous in the shelter. She is starting to come around and we are seeing a sweet girl who’s just curious about this new environment.  Coco is a beauty and when given time and space to get settled in and accustomed to new surroundings and new people, she will show you a vibrant, active and fun girl.  Coco is currently in a back kennel so when you come in to meet her and don’t see her, please just ask. And remember, let her approach you. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 13, 2025, 1:48 pm

Story
DAISY MAE - 1 year old, 54 pounds, house trained,  Daisy is still a puppy at barely a year old and surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her.  She has tons of energy and is very playful.  She loves all kinds of toys, balls, squeaky, plush & tug. Although we are told she is good with children, we are recommending an adult only home as she can be rough with kids and has a tendency to guard high value items. She likes other dogs but does play very rough and will guard items from them. Daisy was barky at first but then out in the yard, she loved running and running and running, chasing tennis balls, stopping for treats and then running and chasing some more. Daisy Mae is looking for a very active family who will provide plenty of exercise, playtime and training to help curb some of her guarding issues. She is a hoot and in the right home, she will thrive. Daisy Mae is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel so just ask to meet her!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 14, 2025, 4:33 pm

Story
BOLT - 3 years old, 60 pounds, house trained, good with kids, dog selective, no cats Bolt is a young, handsome, large mixed breed boy. His black thick fur is soft. He has pretty amber eyes and along with white on his chest, he has a touch of white on a couple of his paws. Arriving bc his owner was in the military and had no one else to care for him, Bolt is nervous behind the cage bars. He stares and backs away. Once outside, however, he is a fun and friendly boy. He came right up to me, sniffed and licked my hand. So silly! It took him a few minutes to get used to the other dogs in playgroup. He let them know when they were too much for him.  *We vet our playgroup dogs so they all listened to him and backed away when he corrected them. After a short time, he was initiating chasing play with others. *We are recommending Bolt be an only pet. He has been known to get into trouble if left unattended so crate training is a good idea as he will steal food from counter tops and chew up paper. Bolt loves to play with toys including balls and tough toys. He will rip up stuffed ones. Bolt is currently in a back kennel so if you come in and don't see him, please just ask!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 19, 2025, 3:03 pm

Meet Meraki! Meraki is such a special lady! She is super quiet, very timid at first but blossoms when she has a doggie friend to hang and play with. We are unsure about cats because she has never met one! Meraki loves her toys, belly rubs and just being near her human and dog friends. Meraki lived her prior life in a pen with not much human contact, only dogs so she will require patience and understanding BUT she is so worth it! If you would like to meet Meraki, please go to our website at k9newlife.org and fill out our online adoption application! * all of our dogs are in individual foster homes so an appointment must be made for a meet and greet

Story
Nyla is the sweetest girl, she is very energetic but she knows her commands to calm down and relax. She LOVES people, and she is extremely smart too. She does require a lot of love and attention throughout the week, so a super busy schedule could be tricky with her. She is also hilarious and has a sassy personality when she doesn't get her way, but she is very submissive. She has always been funny with her food so most of the time we only fill her bowl once or twice a day with 12-hour increments. She holds the calories well so she eats as she pleases. She's familiar with dozens of commands such as: "STOP", "Lay down", "Sit", "Stay", "Up", "Down", "Go upstairs/downstairs", "Go outside", "Room", "Cage", ect.

These pups are in Virginia Beach, Virginia too!

Story
Winnie has been waiting a while for her forever home and decided to take matters into her own paws. Her Tinder Profile: Sweet, affectionate girl seeks loving home with lots of treats, walks and car rides. I'm an intelligent, friendly, goofy 5 yr old American Bulldog. I'm spayed and UTD on all my wellness and vaccinations. I do have hypothyroidism but it is easily managed with 2 inexpensive medications. I get along with most dogs. Cats are ok if the are aloof but no young children please (older teenagers are ok). I have had basic obedience and excel at that. My leash manners are impeccable and I love my walks. We can help keep each other healthy! My foster mom says I have big personality and need firm but gentle handling. I am a foodie though, and very treat motivated. I have to be honest and telI you I have had rare incidents of resource guarding. It has happened when I have been able to steel your stuff. It is not uncommon behavior in dogs and manageable with strategizing and behavior modification. I have lots of love and laughs to offer an experienced dog owner that is willing to give me a chance. My adoption fee is $100 to help cover cost for other rescue dogs like me. A free training session is included. Thanks for reading. I hope to hear from you! Story
**If you have any questions about Otis after reading his profile, you can contact a volunteer at 757-237-2430 who can answer your questions.** Field Trip with Otis on 10/18 I took Otis to meet my daughter at the park and get pictures. He jumped up in the car and took his place, quietly taking in the scenery on the ride. At the park, he barked at my daughter when she walked up, but she threw him a slice of ham and they instantly became friends. He mostly cooperated as we positioned him for pictures, but he loved all the attention from two people. When we got back to the shelter, I took him for a walk on the back trail. He sat there for 15 minutes just taking all the smells around the lake. Otis the kind of dog that grows on you. He does not like everyone at first, and it’s random who he barks at, but when he does, give him a quality treat and he will usually warm up quickly. He loves to give and receive attention but is also happy to just sit and chill out. He loves fetch when he is in the mood, but he’s not obsessed with it and will often wind down after a few throws.  Come in and meet Otis. With a little patience and some quality treats, you will probably make friends quickly. Otis Video https://youtube.com/shorts/dShCA3J9Iwc   OTIS - 5 years old, 60 pounds, house trained, older kids, only pet. Otis was bigger than I thought when we met and went outside. He was pretty good on the leash although he pulled in the excitement as they all do when stuck in a shelter cage and finally get the opportunity to go outside. Otis is well mannered in the home, experienced if you will. He is fun and loves to run and play outside. He is good with older kids and is looking to be an only pet. He doesn't seem to like when people ride by on bicycles, though, so now you know! Otis is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see him when you come in, please just ask!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 13, 2025, 1:03 pm

Story
KILO - 5 years old, 80 pounds, house trained, only pet, adult home Handsome boy KILO had germ with his family his whole life until now when they found no longer care for him. He’s quiet in the kennel but active, bouncy and lively when he knows and trusts you.  He chases tennis balls and even brings them back to you but you better have a treat ready for that good boy! He isn’t very patient (LOL who is when it comes to treats!) and will literally bounce off of you in pursuit of said treat. In other words, he’s a hoot! Kilo loves to go for walks, he pulls on the leash, and might chase cats in the meantime. Kilo can be trusted alone although he is known to bark and whine. He is playful and enjoys all types of toys. Kilo can be nervous with new people so proper introductions are necessary. Continued training will be beneficial for this puppy-like boy also helping with the bond between you.  Kilo will bark and growl when strangers enter the home. Kilo does not like anyone to be near his food so this will be important for potential adopters to remember. Give him space. He also might have a few accidents as he gets used to a new environment and routine. Kilo is currently in our large dog adoption kennel so come on in to meet him!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 13, 2025, 1:03 pm
