Story
Lima Bean has mastered the art of watching before participating. While some kittens race into a new room as though they've lived there forever, Lima prefers to find a quiet little corner where she can take everything in first. She's thoughtful that way. Every sound, every movement, every new person deserves a moment of consideration before she decides it's safe to venture a little farther. Watching her build confidence one tiny step at a time makes you root for her almost immediately.
Go watch Lima Bean, the Quiet Courage on YouTube, then come right back to read more!
You'll see her carefully choosing cozy hiding spots beneath furniture while she observes the room, staying close to her brother, Navy Bean, who clearly gives her an extra sense of security. As the session goes on, you'll notice her curiosity slowly winning out over her uncertainty. She eventually works up the courage to explore farther across the room, proving that even the smallest steps forward are worth celebrating.
Estimated to be around 3.5 months old, with an estimated birthday of March 21, 2026, Lima Bean is a beautiful calico kitten with striking black, orange, and white markings and an adorable little Manx-style stubby tail. Her expressive eyes seem to take in every detail around her before she makes her next move. As with all rescue animals, her age and breed are our best educated guess!
Lima Bean is part of a litter of seven kittens who have already overcome more than most kittens ever should. After being rescued from a shelter, the litter came to Three Little Pitties, where they spent time in quarantine while receiving treatment and care for ringworm and exposure to panleukopenia. Thanks to dedicated care, they're feeling so much better and are now looking for homes where they can finally experience the comforts of family life.
During our visit together, Lima Bean showed us exactly how she handles uncertainty. She wasn't interested in making herself the center of attention. Instead, she quietly sought out places that felt safe. Beneath a table, tucked under a shelf, or curled beneath the couch. Sudden movements would send her back to one of her cozy hideaways, but every time she peeked back out, it was another small act of bravery. By the end of our session, she'd made her way across the room entirely on her own. It may not have been to greet us just yet, but it was progress, and progress is exactly what Lima Bean is all about.
One thing that became especially clear was how much comfort she finds in feline companionship. Her brother, Navy Bean, was rarely far away, and the two often looked to one another while exploring unfamiliar surroundings. Having another confident, friendly cat in her future home would likely help her continue building confidence as she adjusts to a new life.
Like many kittens who haven't had much opportunity to experience the world beyond quarantine, Lima Bean appreciates slow, gentle introductions. Her foster notes mention that if she feels frightened or cornered, she may use her paws or mouth to let you know she'd like some space. During our session, however, she never hissed, scratched, or acted defensively. She simply chose distance over confrontation. Giving her the opportunity to approach people on her own terms, respecting her boundaries, and allowing trust to develop naturally will help her feel safe enough to let her personality shine.
After spending much of her young life in quarantine, Lima Bean is comfortable resting in a kennel and handles crate life well. What she's waiting for now is something she's barely had the chance to experience; a quiet home, patient people, and the opportunity to discover that she no longer needs to hide quite so carefully.
Lima Bean won't be the kitten who steals the spotlight the moment she walks through your front door. She'll be the one whose first curious sniff, first playful pounce, and first decision to curl up nearby will feel like incredible milestones because you earned every bit of that trust together. For someone who understands that the strongest relationships are built one small moment at a time, Lima Bean will be an incredibly rewarding companion!
