He was rescued with a bunch of other dogs who haven't had much interaction with people. Opossum is a very shy boy, and we're currently working on walking on leash. He got his name because when he gets very nervous, he likes to play dead in the hope that he can make the scary thing disappear. He wasn't sure how he felt about being outside, but that first time he got to walk around out there, he didn't want to come back in. He's quick to let you know when he wants some attention, so be prepared to make him the center of your day. We know that with some patience, love, and a bit of training, he will blossom into an outgoing, confident companion. He does seem to really like other dogs- they give him a confidence boost- so he would do well in a home with another dog who is friendly and welcoming. All dogs are heartworm negative, current on vaccines/dewormings, and microchipped. All cats are FeLv/FIV negative, current on vaccines/dewormings, and microchipped. We are open 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday, we schedule our last adoption at 4pm everyday to allow our staff enough time to feed and walk dogs. We are an animal shelter and therefore are not able to individually potty train our residents. Many adult dogs do arrive “house broken” however due to animal behavior any change in environment will make an emotional impact on the animals and therefore initiate unwanted behaviors during the acclamation period. Please keep this in mind. Puppies do not have the biological maturity to maintain absolute bladder or bowel control and will require a certain degree of potty training and house breaking. Please consider the time and commitment it takes to provide the necessary building blocks for these special babies, prior to submitting your application. Pepper is a 7 year old cattle dog and I have had her for 5 years. She is very active and loves to walk/run on leash. She knows simple commands , loves riding in a car. She is not destructive when confined to a space by herself. She has never met a stranger and is very friendly to everyone. She is good with children and has lived with two cats and two other dogs for 5 years. She sleeps through the night on a dog bed or couch and is completely house trained. She has no health conditions and is vaccinated. Now that another smaller dog has entered the home she has gotten in numerous fights with her . She is typically aggressive toward other dogs and cannot be trusted with our smaller dog after numerous fights.
