Story
FOSTERED IN: Oak Forest, IL ESTIMATED DOB: 2014 WEIGHT: 10 pounds KIDS: Older DOGS: Yes CATS: Yes HISTORY: Sonya was rescued from a shelter in Indiana ABOUT: Sonya is a 12-year-old brown Chihuahua mix with a gentle soul and the cutest frosted face. Weighing just under 10 pounds, this petite girl is calm, observant, and wonderfully low-key. She came to us on transport from Elkhart, IN and has settled beautifully into foster life, showing what a lovely little companion she truly is. At home, Sonya is quiet, polite, and easy to live with. She’s house-trained as long as she’s taken out regularly (especially right after meals), walks nicely on a leash without pulling, and is excellent in the car. She has free roam of the house while her foster is away and spends most of her time relaxing in her dog bed. Sonya isn’t much of a toy lover, but she is VERY food motivated and enjoys soft food and treats—she’ll happily supervise meal prep like it’s her full-time job. Sonya does best in a calmer environment. She can be skittish at first, especially with women, but with patience and kindness she warms up and enjoys affection. She’s not clingy, yet she’ll quietly follow you from room to room, keeping tabs on her person. When it’s time to relax, she settles right in with you. She’s fine with cats and does well with small dogs, and would likely enjoy a home with older, respectful children only. One of Sonya’s most charming traits is how she lights up in a fenced yard—she bounds around like a little deer, exploring and enjoying life with surprising energy for a senior gal. Because her eyesight isn’t perfect, she’ll need some extra care around stairs and in low light, but simple precautions (like gates and guidance) go a long way. Sonya’s ideal home: • Quiet or moderately calm household • Experienced dog owner preferred • Older children only • Apartment, condo, or house-friendly • Someone who appreciates a gentle, loyal companion Sonya is quiet, adorable, curious, and such a lovely presence to have around. Give her a little time to trust, and she’ll reward you with companionship, gentle affection, and the joy of watching a senior dog truly thrive. 💕 More information and our adoption application can be found at www.luluslockerrescue.org.

Story
Pablo (noun) - a medium length, wire-hair black chihuahua who has ears 5 times too big and legs 5 times too short and stumpy for his body. Might be a chiweenie. See also: loyal, smart, snuggly, energetic, happy stalke-errr we mean shadow; the most well- behaved chihuahua as long as you are not a dog, child, or stranger. Prefers the company of one or two patient adults who have a great sense of humor and prefer a calmer home without too much chaos. He can also share a home with cats, though he will sometimes try to chase them. A Pablo's favorite things include: early morning snuggles in bed, couch snuggles, sunbathing flat on his side looking dead, treats, playing with toys, and spending time with mom and/or dad. Best Skills: - Name Recognition: responds to Pablo, and comes when called even from the backyard when he is barking at the neighbors, the mailman, children playing on the next block, or the wind - Eating (though he can be picky, he likes to keep you on your toes and always guessing what he's going to like each hour) - Potty-Trained! Yes, behold a chihuahua who is potty trained! - Crate-Trained: though he doesn't like it, he will go right in on his own when asked - Sit: sometimes, if he wants to and a collection of other random skills his dog-trainer foster mom has tried to teach him. Okay, so maybe he's not book-smart....NEXT! - Sleeps through the night - next to you in bed and under the blankets of course - Confidence: he prances around like the rightful king of his castle with his own unique strut - Olympic ready: he is a perfect candidate for his favorite activities! sprinting, jumping, murdering stuffed toys, picking pills out of food, playing fetch, and napping - the most muscular, buff chihuahua you will ever meet! so buff in fact, his muscles busted right out of his Hawaiian shirt (which he hated anyways because he doesn't like clothes) - Protects his people: you will never pee or shower alone again! He positions himself with his butt to you or the shower and guards the door for predators while you do your business. He will also protect you from any perceived threat by barking loudly and saying "go away you scary _____(Insert thing thats only scary to Pablo) ____ or else! Leave my mom/dad/furry sister/my house and territory alone right this instant!" What a gentleman! - Stuck-like-glue: being a stalker is not usually a great quality to have unless you weigh 9lbs like Pablo, and then it's okay. He will follow you everywhere! He will sit next to you on the couch, be the big or little spoon at night while you sleep (how versatile!), stare at you while you eat, follow you around the house from room to room. You'll do everything together forever! Quirks: - He is a Chihuahua: he needs someone who understands he's a chihuahua - and he acts like a chihuahua. He does not want to make new friends, he only thinks he wants to go for walks but really doesn't, he barks a lot, he is selectively people friendly - but he also will become your best friend within a few hours time. - He needs a forever home where his new family doesn't like to have people over to visit often, as it really freaks him out to have visitors disrupt the peace of his safe-space aka your home. Are you ready to meet your new tiny best friend? Visit www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt today to find out more about how to join Pablo's inner circle. The adoption fee for Pablo is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Pablo please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team member.

Story
Hello. I’m Charlie, a 15 pound 4 year old neutered Chihuahua/Spaniel mix. I am a creature of habit. I like routine. I like fetch, and I really like laps (not running laps, but lying on human ones). I live with dogs, but just to cohabitate. I’m not one for playing with the dogs. As far as adults go, I’ll take any lap I can find. When it comes to kids, I‘m more of an older kid buddy[over 8]. I’m crate trained, but need some work on housetraining. So in short, I’m a social butterfly who will need some work on a housetraining schedule in my new home. So crate training will likely need to be continued for a time. Charlie’s adoption fee is $425. If you’re looking for a fun loving guy & are interested in meeting Charlie, then go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Using the menu at the top of the page, click on Adoption Application. Complete & submit your application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. We will make arrangements to meet with prospective adopters only after a submitted application has been reviewed & a phone conversation has taken place. ***Please note that we are a foster based group located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. Charlie’s adopter must live in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.***

Story
Meet Neva! She is a 4 year old chihuahua mix weighing in at 8.5 pounds. She can be shy and nervous with strangers but after she trusts you she is a lover. She loves to snuggle on the couch and in the bed. She walks nicely on a leash and is potty trained with reminders. She gets along with the other small dogs in the house but would be fine as an only dog as she can be jealous. She is not a good fit for an apartment as she will bark at noises. She is spayed and vaccinated against distemper/parvo, bordetella, rabies, and is heartworm negative/on prevention and is also microchipped. She’s looking for a family who will give her all the love she deserves and with older children only. Her adoption fee is $450. Sounds like the perfect match? Head over to http://www.heathersfosterdogs.org, click on How to Adopt to submit your application online. It will be forwarded to Neva’s foster mom, who will reach out. We are located in the suburbs of Chicago and serve that general area.

Story
Marty is an adorable senior Chihuahua mix, who is about 10 years old and around 20lbs. He was adopted out from WCHS in 2023 and was recently returned due to his owner having health issues. He’s back at the shelter, loving all the staff and volunteers but he really wants to be in a home again. He loves to lounge around with people or in a comfy dog bed. While Marty is dog and kid friendly, he does get protective to guard his human in a home environment, so he is looking for a home as the only pet. Marty walks pretty well on leash and does enjoy rolling in the grass for belly rubs too.Marty's adoption fee has been generously sponsored!

Story
Meet Scout, an adorable 20lb Terrier/Chi/Cattle Dog type mix who came from local animal control as an unclaimed stray. He is a sweet boy who loves to be with people and receive attention. He knows sit and paw and will happily offer those commands whenever you would like, sometimes even when you are not asking for them. Scout has lots of energy and is working on leash manners. Because of his dog reactivity, he will need some work on walks. A fenced yard would be great for him. He does love to run around and sniff in the grass. He can tend to grab the leash to try to tug or be a little mouthy when he gets excited. He is looking for a home with no children or other pets.
