Story
Marty is an adorable senior Chihuahua mix, who is about 10 years old and around 20lbs. He was adopted out from WCHS in 2023 and was recently returned due to his owner having health issues. He’s back at the shelter, loving all the staff and volunteers but he really wants to be in a home again. He loves to lounge around with people or in a comfy dog bed. While Marty is dog and kid friendly, he does get protective to guard his human in a home environment, so he is looking for a home as the only pet. Marty walks pretty well on leash and does enjoy rolling in the grass for belly rubs too.Marty's adoption fee has been generously sponsored!

Story
Meet Scout, an adorable 20lb Terrier/Chi/Cattle Dog type mix who came from local animal control as an unclaimed stray. He is a sweet boy who loves to be with people and receive attention. He knows sit and paw and will happily offer those commands whenever you would like, sometimes even when you are not asking for them. Scout has lots of energy and is working on leash manners. Because of his dog reactivity, he will need some work on walks. A fenced yard would be great for him. He does love to run around and sniff in the grass. He can tend to grab the leash to try to tug or be a little mouthy when he gets excited. He is looking for a home with no children or other pets.

Story
Meet Chewy, a 2-year-old Chihuahua mix, weighing about 16 pounds. He was found as a stray and never reclaimed, so now he is looking for a forever home! Chewy is very nervous and was mortified when he first came to us. He has made tremendous strides, though, and now enjoys pets and hanging out with his people. Chewy will need patience as he adjusts and gets to know you and starts to trust. Fast movements can spook him, but we have made lots of progress as far as leashing/unleashing and petting. He loves to go outside with his people to run around, sniff, and play with squeaky plush toys. He does chase the toys when thrown, but he likes to hold them instead of bringing them back. Chewy has met a few similar sized dogs and done okay. He does tend to match the energy of the other dogs, so if the other dog isn’t a fan, neither is Chewy. He has run around outside in a run next to one of our medium dogs and seemed to get excited when she got the zoomies. We are hoping with time and patience in a home, he will blossom! Chewy is looking for a home without children. It would be beneficial for an adopter to have experience with nervous dogs or finicky chihuahuas.Chewy has some allergies that were causing him to have a lot of skin irritation and upset stomach. He is now on a fish-based diet (Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach- Salmon and Rice) as well as Apoquel, once daily, which helped tremendously. He will need to be on this long term.

Story
Meet Sasha (Yes, that Sasha) Sasha is a 4-year-old Chihuahua mix who has officially decided that her past does not define her future — and she’s ready to start the best chapter yet. Her origin story is… unfortunate (a previous owner didn’t want a female dog and fed her only sweet potatoes), which left Sasha malnourished and dealing with skin issues. But thanks to proper vet care, real food, and the endless love of her foster mama, Sasha has had a full glow-up. New body, new confidence, same sweet soul. Now, Sasha is thriving. She’s healthy, happy, and a total sweetheart who gets along beautifully with kids, cats, and other dogs. She’s the kind of dog who just wants to be loved — and will return that love tenfold. Gentle, affectionate, and quietly grateful, Sasha is proof that second chances can change everything. Sasha is looking for a forever home that will cherish her, spoil her responsibly (no potato-only diets allowed), and remind her every day that she’s safe and wanted. If you’re ready for a loyal companion with a heart of gold and a comeback story worth cheering for, Sasha is waiting. Story
When responding, please tell us about yourself such as home, yard/fence, family, work hours, previous dog experience. We do have an application at sparrowdogs.com. They call him Tot, as in Tator Tot, because he is just a little spud of a dog-just 20 pounds, and cute as a button.(his foster family is working on putting some weight on him!) If there had not been a DNA done on Tot, we certainly would have never guessed some of those breeds!! Although he is mostly Shih Tzu, he certainly doesn't look it, so we put down Chihuahua mix, perhaps Chihuahua/Pit? Would that make him a Chipit? Well, whatever Tot is, he is a cute little guy. But, looking into those sad eyes you can see the pain and perhaps the distrust. Tot grew up in a drug house, yes, you can just imagine the horror that he endured. Thankfully he was rescued by a good Samaritan/rescuer. And again, thankfully, he was just over a year old so surely he can put all that trauma far, far in his past with the right patient and loving home. Tot is doing well in his foster home. He has adjusted to living with a family with other pets, people of all ages--but NO small children--although there is an older child in the home. They have had a lot of patience with Tot and let him acclimate on his own terms. A fearful dog will be distrusting, but they can come around and love. It takes a special person, someone kind, loving and patient and also dog savvy that can understand that this takes time. But, it is also so worth it. Tot is young and has his whole life ahead of him. He deserves the best in life, and he is working on putting his rough start behind him. Tot will do well with an active family, he is young and playful. He will be best with female dogs. Tot is not the kind of dog that is going to warm up right away, he needs time. He is not going to be ready to snuggle in your lap upon first meeting, it may have to happen in his adoptive home. But, once he trusts you, he will love you forever. We are looking for that someone extra special to give him that chance of a happy full life. We know you are out there looking for that extra special pal. If you have plenty of dog experience and a big heart, maybe Tot is your guy!! His adoption fee is $200. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

Story
Bunny rabbit? No, more like puppy rabbit! My name is Lola Bunny, I was born around 1/1/2026 and am looking for my forever home!    I was named after Bugs Bunny's girlfriend, Lola Bunny. Just like her, I am simply irresistable. I don't go out of my way to ask for attention, but somehow the spotlight always ends up on me. I can't help it, it's like I'm magnetic!    I am very big on snuggles. I always end up being held--if you ever can't find me, check the arms of the closest person around. There's a big chance you'll find me cuddled up and snoozing happily. I could just snuggle ALL day! If you don't scoop me up immediately, I'll wait patiently and stare at you with my beautiful brown doe eyes until you get the hint.    I am a gentle girl. I like to play with my siblings Tino and Cupid, but I am never a roughhouser. I sleep through the night really well and I am just a real sweetie overall. Not to brag, but I think I am my foster family's favorite...I mean, look at all this attention I get just for existing and being really adorable. I don't even have to try!!! It's like everyone naturally knows that I am the main character.    Want me to be yours? Of course you do...Reach out to my foster mom & help me get adopted before my siblings to prove that I'm the crowd favorite! If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $550 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
