Story
Meet Kiwi, our precious senior chihuahua mix. Kiwi is 8 years old and weighs just 9lbs. She is shy at first, but once she knows you, she just wants to be with you. She will follow staff around and climb into their lap if they sit on the floor. Kiwi can often be found curled up underneath her blanket taking a nice nap. Kiwi would love a cozy and quiet retirement home to call her own! She is very content curled up in a lap or laying right beside you. Kiwi is looking for a home without other dogs or cats.Kiwi has a grade 4 heart murmur and an enlarged heart. Our vet recommended we follow up with a cardiac ultrasound, which showed Kiwi has mild heart failure. They prescribed her Enalapril and Vetmedin, which Kiwi happily takes in a pill pocket or cheese. She also had a dental with some teeth pulled so she is on a wet food diet.

Story
Pablo (noun) - a medium length, wire-hair black chihuahua who has ears 5 times too big and legs 5 times too short and stumpy for his body. Might be a chiweenie. See also: loyal, smart, snuggly, energetic, happy stalke-errr we mean shadow; the most well- behaved chihuahua as long as you are not a dog, child, or stranger. Prefers the company of one or two patient adults who have a great sense of humor and prefer a calmer home without too much chaos. He can also share a home with cats, though he will sometimes try to chase them. A Pablo's favorite things include: early morning snuggles in bed, couch snuggles, sunbathing flat on his side looking dead, treats, playing with toys, and spending time with mom and/or dad. Best Skills: - Name Recognition: responds to Pablo, and comes when called even from the backyard when he is barking at the neighbors, the mailman, children playing on the next block, or the wind - Eating (though he can be picky, he likes to keep you on your toes and always guessing what he's going to like each hour) - Potty-Trained! Yes, behold a chihuahua who is potty trained! - Crate-Trained: though he doesn't like it, he will go right in on his own when asked - Sit: sometimes, if he wants to and a collection of other random skills his dog-trainer foster mom has tried to teach him. Okay, so maybe he's not book-smart....NEXT! - Sleeps through the night - next to you in bed and under the blankets of course - Confidence: he prances around like the rightful king of his castle with his own unique strut - Olympic ready: he is a perfect candidate for his favorite activities! sprinting, jumping, murdering stuffed toys, picking pills out of food, playing fetch, and napping - the most muscular, buff chihuahua you will ever meet! so buff in fact, his muscles busted right out of his Hawaiian shirt (which he hated anyways because he doesn't like clothes) - Protects his people: you will never pee or shower alone again! He positions himself with his butt to you or the shower and guards the door for predators while you do your business. He will also protect you from any perceived threat by barking loudly and saying "go away you scary _____(Insert thing thats only scary to Pablo) ____ or else! Leave my mom/dad/furry sister/my house and territory alone right this instant!" What a gentleman! - Stuck-like-glue: being a stalker is not usually a great quality to have unless you weigh 9lbs like Pablo, and then it's okay. He will follow you everywhere! He will sit next to you on the couch, be the big or little spoon at night while you sleep (how versatile!), stare at you while you eat, follow you around the house from room to room. You'll do everything together forever! Quirks: - He is a Chihuahua: he needs someone who understands he's a chihuahua - and he acts like a chihuahua. He does not want to make new friends, he only thinks he wants to go for walks but really doesn't, he barks a lot, he is selectively people friendly - but he also will become your best friend within a few hours time. - He needs a forever home where his new family doesn't like to have people over to visit often, as it really freaks him out to have visitors disrupt the peace of his safe-space aka your home. Are you ready to meet your new tiny best friend? Visit www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt today to find out more about how to join Pablo's inner circle. The adoption fee for Pablo is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Pablo please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team member.

Story
Hi there my name is Huey and I am a Chihuahua/Schnauzer/Terrier mix about 7 years old. I have been in the rescue for quite some time as it takes me a little time to trust people. I was abused in my past so on my initial meet and greets with new people I am unsure and sudden movements make me scared. Once I get to know you and trust you you can't get rid of me. Once we are BFFs, I am the most loyal, fun, sassy and most of all cuddly friend. I am looking for my forever home with somebody who is either a stay at home, work from home, or retired as I like to be with my people as much as possible. I am completely up to date on my vetting which includes neutered, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, bordetella, negative fecal, negative heartworm, and microchipped. If interested in meeting me please go to the rescue's website www.atailof4paws.org and fill out the application. Once completed email or scan to rescue@atailof4paws.org

Story
Meet Luy! This boy has had a rough time. He originally was in our care in 2017 when he came to our rescue as a newborn puppy with his mom and 3 other siblings. He was adopted as a 3 month old puppy and we thought everything was going well. We were contacted in July from the family who reported having issues with him for the past 4 years with multiple biting incidents and requested to return him. We could not say no, as we stand behind all our animals. Luy is a nervous boy who seems to have some fear aggression and fearful behavior in certain situations. He can also be very sweet, but he really needs an adopter who has experience with dealing with fear aggression and dogs with behavior challenges. Prefer a quiet, all adult home. He does get along with other smaller dog, but we would recommend no large dogs and no cats. Luy deserves a chance at a happily ever after with someone who understands what he needs to thrive- patience and understanding and he needs to be allowed to build his trust at his pace in a safe environment. Luy is crate trained and does well with housetraining. Interested applicants can find an application on our website at www.perfectpooches.org.

Story
Adopt Minnie: A Sweet Senior Chihuahua Mix Looking for Her Forever Home! Meet Minnie, a lovable little Chihuahua mix with a heart full of affection! At approximately 11 years old, Minnie has blossomed from a tiny 5-pound pup into a healthy 8.5 pounds and is ready to find her forever family. Minnie is a sweet, gentle soul who loves to be around her humans. She is deaf but is always determined to find her human. The ideal home for her would be with someone who works from home and has plenty of time for couch snuggles. Minnie will howl at times when she can’t find her human. Due to her back legs she can’t do stairs, but she’ll be right by your side for all the love and attention you can give! Here’s what you need to know about Minnie: Age: Estimated to be around 11 years old. Health: She is deaf and flinches when raising your hand near her head. She has knee/hip issues with both back legs. Weight: A healthy 8.5 lbs (up from 5 lbs!) Personality: Sweet, loving, and eager for you to sit next to her on the couch. She sleeps a lot during the day but wants all your attention at night. She does not like to be crated. She doesn’t play with toys but will bark to get your attention. She likes people, but on her term. You need to let her come up to you first when meeting her. She does well on short car rides but if they are too long she will bark and get anxious. Other pets: She really sparked up with other dogs so ideally she would like another small dog as a companion. She gets along well with dogs, but we're unsure about her reaction to cats Potty training: Minnie has a small bladder and needs be let out frequently. She is working on using potty pads and has come a long way. Special needs: She can’t do stairs, so a home with few or no stairs would be ideal. She does not mind being carried. Minnie may be a senior, but she still has so much love to give! She’s looking for a warm, caring home where she can enjoy the simple pleasures of life—like being with her favorite person on the couch. If you have the time, patience, and love to offer this sweet girl, Minnie would make the perfect addition to your family. Minnie's adoption donation of $250 helps cover the cost of her medical care. Adopters must live within 1.5 hour driving distance from Romeoville, IL. Home visit and reference checks required.
