Story
Meet Scout, an adorable 20lb Terrier/Chi/Cattle Dog type mix who came from local animal control as an unclaimed stray. He is a sweet boy who loves to be with people and receive attention. He knows sit and paw and will happily offer those commands whenever you would like, sometimes even when you are not asking for them. Scout has lots of energy and is working on leash manners. Because of his dog reactivity, he will need some work on walks. A fenced yard would be great for him. He does love to run around and sniff in the grass. He can tend to grab the leash to try to tug or be a little mouthy when he gets excited. He is looking for a home with no children or other pets.

Story
Meet Chewy, a 3-year-old Chihuahua mix, weighing about 13 pounds. He was found as a stray and never reclaimed, so now he is looking for a forever home! Chewy is very nervous and was mortified when he first came to us. He has made tremendous strides, though, and now enjoys pets and hanging out with his people. Chewy will need patience as he adjusts and gets to know you and starts to trust. Fast movements can spook him, but we have made lots of progress as far as leashing/unleashing and petting. He loves to go outside with his people to run around, sniff, and play with squeaky plush toys. He does chase the toys when thrown, but he likes to hold them instead of bringing them back. Chewy has met a few similar sized dogs and done okay. He does tend to match the energy of the other dogs, so if the other dog isn’t a fan, neither is Chewy. He has run around outside in a run next to one of our medium dogs and seemed to get excited when she got the zoomies. We are hoping with time and patience in a home, he will blossom! Chewy is looking for a home without children. It would be beneficial for an adopter to have experience with nervous dogs or finicky chihuahuas.Chewy has some allergies that were causing him to have a lot of skin irritation and upset stomach. He is now on a fish-based diet (Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach- Salmon and Rice) as well as Apoquel, once daily, which helped tremendously. He will need to be on this long term.

Story
Pablo (noun) - a medium length, wire-hair black chihuahua who has ears 5 times too big and legs 5 times too short and stumpy for his body. Might be a chiweenie. See also: loyal, smart, snuggly, energetic, happy stalke-errr we mean shadow; the most well- behaved chihuahua as long as you are not a dog, child, or stranger. Prefers the company of one or two patient adults who have a great sense of humor and prefer a calmer home without too much chaos. He can also share a home with cats, though he will sometimes try to chase them. A Pablo's favorite things include: early morning snuggles in bed, couch snuggles, sunbathing flat on his side looking dead, treats, playing with toys, and spending time with mom and/or dad. Best Skills: - Name Recognition: responds to Pablo, and comes when called even from the backyard when he is barking at the neighbors, the mailman, children playing on the next block, or the wind - Eating (though he can be picky, he likes to keep you on your toes and always guessing what he's going to like each hour) - Potty-Trained! Yes, behold a chihuahua who is potty trained! - Crate-Trained: though he doesn't like it, he will go right in on his own when asked - Sit: sometimes, if he wants to and a collection of other random skills his dog-trainer foster mom has tried to teach him. Okay, so maybe he's not book-smart....NEXT! - Sleeps through the night - next to you in bed and under the blankets of course - Confidence: he prances around like the rightful king of his castle with his own unique strut - Olympic ready: he is a perfect candidate for his favorite activities! sprinting, jumping, murdering stuffed toys, picking pills out of food, playing fetch, and napping - the most muscular, buff chihuahua you will ever meet! so buff in fact, his muscles busted right out of his Hawaiian shirt (which he hated anyways because he doesn't like clothes) - Protects his people: you will never pee or shower alone again! He positions himself with his butt to you or the shower and guards the door for predators while you do your business. He will also protect you from any perceived threat by barking loudly and saying "go away you scary _____(Insert thing thats only scary to Pablo) ____ or else! Leave my mom/dad/furry sister/my house and territory alone right this instant!" What a gentleman! - Stuck-like-glue: being a stalker is not usually a great quality to have unless you weigh 9lbs like Pablo, and then it's okay. He will follow you everywhere! He will sit next to you on the couch, be the big or little spoon at night while you sleep (how versatile!), stare at you while you eat, follow you around the house from room to room. You'll do everything together forever! Quirks: - He is a Chihuahua: he needs someone who understands he's a chihuahua - and he acts like a chihuahua. He does not want to make new friends, he only thinks he wants to go for walks but really doesn't, he barks a lot, he is selectively people friendly - but he also will become your best friend within a few hours time. - He needs a forever home where his new family doesn't like to have people over to visit often, as it really freaks him out to have visitors disrupt the peace of his safe-space aka your home. Are you ready to meet your new tiny best friend? Visit www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt today to find out more about how to join Pablo's inner circle. The adoption fee for Pablo is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Pablo please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team member.

Story
Meet Peanut – Your future sidekick! If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion who will keep you smiling every day, Peanut might just be your perfect match. This cutie’s estimated birthday is 9.24.2023. This active, playful pup absolutely loves being around his people. He’ll happily trot over for pets, lean in for cuddles, and soak up all the attention you’re willing to give. One of his cutest quirks? If you pick him up and gently pet his head, he’ll drift right off to sleep—an instant heart-melter. Peanut is potty trained and does well with both men and women. He enjoys the company of other dogs and would love a playful canine companion to romp around with. He doesn’t seem to mind cats, either. He’s always up for an adventure, whether it’s going on walks or chasing after his favorite ball. As a higher-energy pup, Peanut will thrive with an adopter who is committed to continuing his training and keeping him active and engaged. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of everything you do and can sometimes be a little vocal or have trouble being alone, so he’ll do best in a home where he gets plenty of attention, interaction, and structure. If Peanut had a job, he’d be your enthusiastic assistant—always by your side, ready to “help” with whatever the day brings (or at least supervise it!). Peanut’s ideal home would include an active household with other playful dogs. He’s sweet, silly, and full of love—just waiting for the right person to make him part of their life. Story
Anne Bonny (AB) is guessed to be about 5 years old and weighs around 8 lbs. She came to us from Texas where she had been found with a large number of dogs in an abandoned house. We believe she did not have much human contact in her formative years and therefore has an extreme fear of handling. She is a very special girl who will need a very special home. AB is very shut down and scared. She will hide and tries to avoid contact- it is heartbreaking. She doesn't seem to have a mean or aggressive bone in her body, but due to her level of fear we recommend a very slow approach and taking time with her to prevent her from feeling in a position where she is in flight or fight and cannot flee. She has no reaction to the cats or dogs in the foster home, so we think she could co-exist fine with either. AB has been started on fluoxetine to try and help with her fear. We think she would do best in a quiet home without much activity or new people. She needs a patient person who will accept her as she is, but be willing to work with her to help her gain confidence and comfort with human contact. ABs adoption donation of $250 helps cover the cost of her vet care (spay, microchip, bloodwork). Adopters must live within a 1 hour driving distance from Romeoville, IL. Reference checks, vet checks, and home visits required. We do not do same-day adoptions. Email us with any questions info@perfectpooches.org. The application to adopt can be found under the "Adoption Process" tab on our website www.perfectpooches.org.
