Story
🐾 PEANUT is an adorable little recent surrender who is just 3 years old and we're getting fully vetted this week. Besides his gorgeous Pom/chi looks, he's a super sweet dog once you give him a few minutes to acclimate to you as a new person. He also tries to make sure other dogs know he's the boss when he first meets them, but he's fine after a little initial posturing. Once he's comfy with you, he loves snuggling and enjoys all the attention! 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

Story
🐾 BOLT is 3 years old and we got him fully vetted when he came to us. His foster reports he's a sweet little guy who loves to give kisses and is a huge snuggler. He's maybe a chihuahua Boston type mix? (11 lbs) He loves people and is good with her other dogs and cats- in fact, he does really well with another confident dog in the home as he can be scared of things especially initially. He loves it outside and would do best with a fenced yard as he does well on a leash, but will not POTTY on a leash as of yet. Bolt is also crate-trained with no fuss. He's somewhat housetrained with a *** - he uses a belly band inside and doesn't mind it at all and that has taken care of any lifting of the leg inside, and at his previous home he was pee pad trained, so sometimes esp in winter he will fall back to that and do #2 on a pad by the door. He's a chill little guy who will make you smile - he's just recently discovered the joy of toys, and is also super treat and food motivated. In fact, that's the only time you might hear him bark is a bit when it's feeding time! Story
Suzy is currently being fostered in Houston, TX and can be transported out of state to an approved adopter. She will be on a spay/neuter contract and will need to be spayed once she is 6 months of age. Our adoption fee is $575 and includes transportation and all vetting. Suzy is a 5 month old chihuahua mix that was rescued from the streets of Cleveland, TX when her mom had her and her siblings. Since then she has been nothing but a happy, healthy puppy! She loves to play with other dogs and her toys and has tons of energy. She is still learning how to 'dog' and will need an owner that understands the commitment of training and socializing a young puppy. She is crate trained and getting the hang of potty training. She is cat, dog and kid friendly. We think Suzy would do best in any home. Please apply here: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DDAR/Dog

Submit application to meet dog if interested - yes an application is required******** Meet Rita – Your Future Best Friend 🐾 Rita is a sweet and soulful 3-year-old Chihuahua mix weighing approximately 12 lbs. She’s looking for a calm, low-traffic home where she can truly shine as the center of attention. A fenced yard would be ideal for her to safely explore and enjoy the outdoors. This little lady is fully vetted, potty trained, and highly food motivated—she’ll even dance for treats! Rita adores ear scratches and belly rubs, and once she feels safe, she’ll be your loyal companion for life. She thrives in the company of women and is selective with some men, so a patient and understanding adopter is key. Rita would do best as the only pet in the home, where she can soak up all the love and affection she deserves. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a devoted little friend, Rita is ready to meet you. If you would like to meet this adorable dog an application must be filled out https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplication We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. Submit application to meet dog if interested - yes an application is required******** Meet Cherry, a 5 yr old chihuahua-Beagle mix weighing approximately 18 pounds. Despite her rough beginning in a hoarding situation, and her fearful nature, Cherry has proven to be a loving and affectionate companion who enjoys snuggles, pets and attention from her human. She’s dog and cat friendly and would do well in a quiet home with a low key canine companion. In addition, she’s potty trained, non destructive and enjoys sleeping in her dog bed, on your lap or beside you, or snuggled up in bed with her human at night. Cherry’s best match would be in a home with a fenced in secure yard. Cherry requires an adopter that is able and willing to give her the time and patience she will need to overcome her fear of new humans, trust her adopter and adjust to new surroundings. Once you’ve gained her trust, she will reward you as a loving, protective and loyal companion. She will shower her adopter with affection. Please note she is leash and crate resistant. An experienced adopter with fearful, but non aggressive behavior will take preference. Additionally, Cherry is extremely fearful of men, so it's preferred her adopter is female and home for most of the day.
