Currently fostered in Texas Please read complete bio. Granny Dixie . We all LOVE this dog because she is certainly quirky and makes us smile. She is apx 10 -12 years old and apx 14 pounds. Granny Dixie is from a high kill shelter here in our town of Pleasanton. She was in rough shape when we got her, but it is very clear that once upon a time someone really loved this dog. She was already spayed and has clearly already had dental work done in the past. She has good potty manners and walks on leash. She LOVES walks. She does have scarring around her neck conducive of being either tied up outside or wearing a collar for too long that was way too tight. She is a bit thin, low muscle mass but already showing improved body composition. She has a good appetite. Her coat was disgustingly dirty and fried from the Texas Sun, she had clearly been outdoors for a while. Her coat is getting softer. She has your typical arthritis in her rear legs but she does not seem in pain. We have never heard Dixie make a sound, never a bark or a whimper or a fuss. She is the most laid back easy peasy dog you could ever ask for. She likes attention but is not needy. She is not a huge fan of being “coddled”. She loves people and loves attention and Baby talk and to be doing whatever it is you’re doing she will follow you everywhere, but she is not really one that adores being picked up or squeezed or her face being kissed all over. She is not a mushy dog lover dog. She does love people though. She is happy being near you she loves when you walk through the door and she does little happy dances. She has a lot of personality in her own way and truly is a southern grandma type . She checks on the other dogs . She will let any dog lay with her . She is just so go with the flow of the day zero anxiety. She would love a low key home without a lot of chaos but I am sure she would be fine with visits from young family members . ***Granny Dixie has some medical we would like to tell you about. She has what are called dermal hemangiomas. A dermal hemangioma is a common, benign (non-cancerous) growth of extra blood vessels in the skin, often appearing as a red or purple "strawberry mark," The vet stated these are mostly non cancerous but the only way to know for sure would be to cut them and biopsy them. Considering her age and the fact that she does not need to go under anesthesia for a spay or dental, we find the risk is worse than the reward in this outcome and do not feel the need to put her under anesthesia to get these biopsied. At her age, even if these were cancerous there is very little anyone would be able to do about it at this point. Pics in comments. Currently fostered in Texas Shadow is apx 1.5 year young and apx18 pounds. He was found running down a street and had a collar on with a phone number. We called and txt the number . After about an hour the “owner” replied stating they were on vacation and apparently left the dog in the back yard with food and water. I asked if they were going to come back to get them and then they blocked me so the answer to that is NO. Poor Shadow. He deserves so much better!! Shadow is a nervous boy for a minute while meeting new people and being in new places but a little baby talk and he is settles in and as soon as you give him pets and kisses, he is now your new bff. He is actually very social and friendly and silly, just weary of strangers for a moment. Who can blame him. Safe to say he was not treated well by his gem of an owner. He has a fluffy tail and a medium length soft coat, he loves to play and is a happy dog but also loves cuddles and is an excellent mix of both playful and chill. He loves all animals and although we don’t have children to test him with I think he would be great with kids. He walks on leash. He keeps his kennel clean but is not 100% potty trained however holds it all night in his kennel Run. He will need a belly band in the house until he gets fully potty trained but he is so people pleasy, I can’t imagine that taking very long. Story
Please read bio carefully. Looking for an experienced adopter or foster. Joy is 21 pounds and 10 months old. We are assuming Chi/Pug mix of some sort. She is a short hefty gal. Joy has hydrocephalus. We are looking for a special needs adopter for her. Preferably someone whom has had hydro dogs before and are familiar with their needs. Joy was born hydrocephalic. Hers is pretty severe however , she is very loving, gets along with other dogs, is very quiet, never makes a peep, really likes attention and affection. She does not spin in circles or have seizures. She has no major neuro issues aside from the typical depth perception of neuro dogs. She even rides well in a car. Joy is a really great dog deserving of a wonderful home. She will bring a lot of joy and love to your home. As hydro dogs do. This week she is even learning the doggy door and using it 50% of the time to potty in her dog yard but like most hydro babies, she is a slow learner. She needs a lot of love and patience . Story
Ellana. Apx 5 -6 years young and 12.5 pounds. She is a funny gal with some quirks , but is also very funny , lovable and silly . Ellana has her moments though and can be a tad on the bipolar side. She was rescued from ACS after being on the euthanasia list, before that being rescued from a hoarding situation in which the house caught fire and animal control confiscated the dogs that made it out alive. So this gal has been through it! She has an adorable waddle, a snaggle tooth, an interesting pomchi coat, and a personality to boot. She had a very large mammary mass removed that was cancerous. Ellana has a little bit of a “tick” sometimes we will call it bc we don’t actually know what it is and when she went to the vet she of course did not do it there. Once in a very great while she will do a funny thing with her mouth that looks like how a fish breaths out of water. She will do it once or twice and then not do it at all for days or weeks and then some days she may do it several times. She did it more when she first arrived so we are wondering if it is like a nervous thing 🤷‍♀️ of course I can also never get this on video so I’m sure my description does not do it justice, but this does not bother her. She hardly never does it and it appears to be just some sort of neurological a little tick. Ellana takes a minute to warm up to new people and she does bark at strangers and give them the side eye, however she is not a biter or an aggressive dog. That being said if Ellana felt really cornered or in danger , I would not completely put it past her to nip so we are definitely not going to put her in home with children. Ellana is VERY sweet and loving it just takes her a day or two to get used to new people and places . She did great at the vet, no issues. We can bathe her, do her nails etc. but if the handy man comes over or a stranger she will try and “protect you” and she puts her hackles up and barks and tries her best to act intimidating, but as soon as they get down and say hi and are there for a few minutes, she is fine and probably by lunch will be in their lap. Ellana gets along well with cats and dogs however she “moms” the dogs . She is a bit of the boss and alpha here but not in a way that she gets in fights and she never attacks dogs or anything but she is confident and a tad on the bossy side, she loves to play and has several friends here she is in a yard space with 9 other dogs . She loves to play with them but when she is done and ready for her nap she has no problem letting them know. She will also break up other dogs fights or if she thinks the other dogs are playing too rough she goes and “moms” them. She is the mama bear of the group for sure. She is a very good girl, she has been through a lot and she deserves to know what a real home, a real family is like. She is beautiful and so so soft. She also looks at you and pays attention to you like she is really listening to what you are saying lol. Ellana is a good catch, she just needs the right home. Currently fostered in Texas Butch aka Butchy aka Toby lol Butch is 4-5 years old and 16 pounds. His name is Butch, that is the name he came with however, for some reason, he really looks like a Toby to me and I always accidentally call him Toby or Toby Tobe , so now he knows both 😂 Butch’s mom had to be put in hospice care and he came to the rescue . He was an obese 20 pounds when he came here but now is down to 16.5 , 13-15 would be a good weight for him. Butch is scared of everything. He is afraid of his own shadow. He was terrified when he first got here but never aggressive. You can pick him up but he does not ask for it nor does he ask for attention or bid for your love. He hides most days under a shelf on a bed we made him and he lets you pet him but he just freezes when you do, although recently when I pet him he is at-least less stiff and maybe in 2-3 more weeks he will actually pretend to enjoy it . Poor Butch had a sheltered life and was under socialized, but that was the only life he knew, so coming here he was very shut down. But recently, when we’re not watching him and we spy on him through the window, he does lay with the other dogs and kind of prances around and seems pretty relaxed. He likes to go outside, but does not really want to be out there with you. He basically acts like a feral dog, but never shows any sign of aggression and he is very much like having a cat. He will use the pee pads or go outside. He MUST have a fenced yard. He does not understand walking on a leash. He also does not actually run from you. He will just sit there and freeze and let you pick him up but sometimes he will nervous pee if he does not know the person picking him up. It took him about two weeks with me to stop peeing on me, but he did, thankfully. He never barks or fusses or whines or cries. We have never heard a peep from him. He will tolerate baths and nails and ears but does not enjoy it, again he just freezes terrified. He sun bathes with his friends when it is warm. He sleeps a lot. He is a cat dog. But I do think once he is in a home and gets used to that new home with his new people, he will relax a lot, and will be a loving part of the family. It is just going to take a lot of time and patience. He has beautiful eyes and a beautiful rare chocolate Merle coat. He needs a patient and loving adopter that will just give him the time he needs to grieve, acclimate, and adjust. Gentle hands and soft voices. He is great with all other animals and he has never met kids but I think would be fine with older kids, he has zero aggression, but would be terrified of a toddler. He just needs time. Currently fostered in Texas Teddy is a cute small little boy very dainty. He is approximately two years old and 7 pounds. Teddy plays shy at first and act a little skittish, but very quickly warms up and is such a cuddle bug. He gets along with all other dogs and plays very gently. He is an extremely loving little boy, and once he gets to know you, he loves being cuddled and held. He likes to snuggle up in the warm blankets. Teddy is a gentle soul and it may take him a few days to trust you but he will. He does not bit and shows zero aggression, he is just a timid baby. Teddy is a really great little man, but does still need some indoor potty training and will require a belly band indoors until he gets the hang of it. Great with cats and dogs and older (over middle school aged) children. Still a little scared of leash and harness but he will get there in time. You must be sure he is on a well fitted leash and harness for walks until he gets more used to you as he will try and run away at first. A fenced yard would be beneficial. He binds very quickly to his new humans just takes him 2-3 days and he will be great.
