Story
Lizzie is a chihuahua mix, 15 pounds and approximately 3 years old. Lizzie was heartworm positive when she came to the rescue. She received treatment and is now negative, but the heartworm did leave her with some medical needs. Lizzie has chronic high blood pressure in her lungs, and with this does live with a chronic cough requiring medications to manage. She takes both Theophylline and Sildenafil twice a day and Hydrocodone syrup every 6-12 hours. She will likely need to remain on these medications as her cough persists despite the medications. Lizzie’s cough is worse at night and after naps, but it doesn’t slow her down – she is a happy and active girl! Lizzie is an absolute angel in the house. She is potty trained and is really great in her crate, and quickly earned enough trust to be able to have free roam of her foster home. While she does not have accidents and is just fine being left home alone, she does have some urinary incontinence. She dribbles urine throughout the day, worse after having been outside for a short walk. Sometimes small drops and sometimes bigger volumes. Lizzie has been tried on two different medications for her incontinence, and at this time is taking Stilbestrol every other day. This has not stopped the incontinence but seems to reduce the amount when she does dribble. Going for longer, or more frequent walks, seem to help the most. Lizzie doesn’t much care for toys, but she does love a good chew on pretty much anything delicious. She is incredibly food motivated, very smart and has easily learned sit, down, stay, paw and spin. Lizzie loves to walk, and will remind her family to take her out with some sassy attitude. Lizzie is excellent with people but is showing some fear aggression with other dogs when she encounters them up close. If kept at a distance, Lizzie will usually continue right by and is happy to carry on. She has not been tested with cats, but likely would not be suited for someone with any other pets. During her down time Lizzie loves cuddles and a good nap. Her favourite place to be is on your lap, or basking by a window in the sun. She enjoys being cradled like a baby and is comfortable sitting up beside you like a little mini human – she is quirky, spunky, sassy and so much fun to be around! Lizzie is really a sweetheart with her people, and would likely be fine with dog savvy kids older than 12. Lizzie is a bundle of joy, and with a family that understands all of her special needs, she has a lifetime of love to give. She deserves someone willing to love her for everything that she is, and in return, Lizzie will be the most wonderful companion to her new family!

Story
Mama, Papa and Baby (also known as the trio) are a bonded set of three chihuahuas and are currently in London, Ontario. They have lived together for all of Baby and Mama’s life and will need to be adopted together. Mama is an 11-12 year old 8 pound female (black and white). She has been the protector of the other two dogs and has a huge personality. She will let you know what she wants, when she wants it. Mama is a mooch and wants food and love at all times if possible. Papa is a 12-13 year old 4 pound male (grey and white). He is the sweetest thing and will just be in your lap for love the entire day if you let him. His favorite place to be is under a blanket on a bed, sometimes with the other two and sometimes not. Baby is their baby! She is an 8 year old 7 pound female (tan and white). She has a lot of anxiety and is afraid of new situations and things at first, but follows the lead of Mama or Papa. If they are comfortable and ok with the situation, then so is she. She is super loving and wants to be with you at all times. If she can’t, then she needs to be with Mama or Papa. All three LOVE walks. They are extremely good walkers and walking all three at the same time is no problem at all. They also have no teeth. Because of how small they are, this means a wet food only diet. Papa is also allergic to chicken, but their foster has found a food that can be easily found at both Petsmart and Pet Valu. Mama and Baby are mostly house trained but need a pee pad for those in between trips (or if it is raining, boooo rain). Papa is a different story though. If you let him out on a regular basis every 2-3 hours, he is fine. But he has reached that age where if he has to go, he will just go on the blankets he is laying on. So a lot of laundry is done with him around. They are great with other dogs as long as they aren’t too big and don’t force them to try to play. They do NOT like cats and will bark at them any time they get near their beds or them. They would get along with dog savvy cats that just don’t care though. They constantly bark and try to bite (with no teeth) the cats at their foster house, but the cats just ignore them. Overall the trio are amazing dogs and have come a long way since they entered foster care. They will make an amazing addition to a home with just the three of them or a pack of dogs about their size. They are being fostered in London, Ontario.

Story
Rome is 5 years young, 8.5 pounds and such a mama’s boy. He is not good with other animals. No kids please. Rome is a doe eyed, sweet pea who LOVES humans. He will turn on the charm and has the best pouty dog face in the world, he really falls hard for his people. That being said, Rome does not like to share his people with other dogs, he is actually ok with cats as long as they don’t go near his wet food or he will growl at them. Rome will not just attack a dog while you are walking and he is ok with animals at a distance, we also put him in the yard sometimes with two of our 16 year old oldies and he is fine with them. He likes his lap time and does not like to share his humans lap time with other dogs and he will be a growly little turd about it so we are suggesting he be the only dog. He walks well on leash. He did mark a few times when he came in but is doing better. He loves hard and is very loyal. He will be your prince charming for always. He gets so happy to see you when you get home and he will love you hard.

Needs experienced adopter, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Faithis apx 3 yrs and 8.5 pounds. She is a super scared dog that needs to go to an experienced adopter or foster. She is somewhat feral and takes some time warming up to new people and places. She is not aggressive and has not bitten or tried to bite however I would not say with 100% certainty she would not fear bite. So no children please. She loves other dogs and cats and a social dog in the home would help her to come out of her shell. She has hope and I know the potential to be a great companion but it is going to take some time and some work. She is also a door darter so you need to watch the door until she feels safe and knows she is home. She does not do well on leash and harness yet so a fenced yard would be best. We know this is a lot to ask of someone, but we know the right person is out there. It is a humbling experience to rehab a dog and let them shine, to watch them learn to trust and love. It will take some time, but she will come around.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
PeeWee is 11 months old and approximately 7 1/2 pounds but he is very thin and needs to gain a little weight. He is tall and slender. PeeWee is very shy and timid but never aggressive. He is great with dogs and cats but will need to be only with older well mannered children. PeeWee takes a couple days to warm up to a new place and new people but he gets VERY attached very quickly to his human. Car rides make him nervous and transport is probably not going to be his favourite thing in the world but he will be ok if that means getting him to a forever HOME. He is also pretty scared of the leash and harness at first but as soon as he attaches himself to his people he will follow you everywhere like a shadow so leash and harness training should be a breeze once he gets used to his new person and new home. A fenced back yard would be best but if someone can be patient with PeeWee for a few days and be sure he is in a well fitted harness and maybe put up a puppy pen for a few days until he knows his people. He will be ok with walks, but I do think she will be walking like a prince on a leash in no time. I do believe that PeeWee will warm up and blossom quickly in his new home. He’s just going to take some love, patience, understanding, time and some confidence. Update from Texas; He has really come out of his shell. Although PeeWee was very scared when he got to the ranch, now he is the complete opposite. He comes and asks for love and jumps up wanting attention. He loves people and has learned to trust humans and is better at walking on leash and car rides. Although there may be a little setback from transport, I know he is going to be a great and social dog, he just needed a little TLC. He has really shined these past few weeks and we are so proud of him 🙂 PeeWee has become very social, but we do not recommend any young children
