Story
*Note: Aromi is currently in Korea but will be arriving in Toronto on July 21. We are looking for her forever home in the Toronto area. For more info about the dog, or the adoption application, please click here. BackgroundAromi was rescued from a puppy mill in Gimpo, where she spent her early life as a breeding dog. After her rescue, she stayed at our partner boarding facility and is now being fostered by a staff member. She is finally experiencing life in a loving home where she can feel safe and cared for.Personality and SocializationAromi is a gentle and affectionate little girl with a medium energy level. Once she forms a bond, she becomes deeply devoted to her person and loves being close to them. She has a calm and well mannered personality and enjoys quiet companionship more than constant activity. When Aromi first entered rescue, she was friendly and comfortable with both men and women. After moving into her foster home with a male shelter staff member, she formed a very strong bond with him. As their relationship grew, she also became protective of him and started feeling nervous around other men inside the home. She will bark at unfamiliar men indoors, but she remains friendly and comfortable with women. Outside the home, Aromi is much more relaxed and does not show the same reaction to men. With patient introductions and time to build trust, she is expected to continue gaining confidence.Aromi gets along very well with other dogs and especially enjoys the company of calm and gentle canine friends. She has not been tested with cats or young children.BehavioursAromi is fully house trained to pee pads and does not have separation anxiety. She does not chew household items and has excellent manners around the home. She rides quietly in the car, walks nicely on leash, cooperates well during veterinary visits, and is calm during baths and grooming.Health and DietAromi is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and dewormed, and receives regular parasite prevention. After her rescue, she underwent successful surgery to correct patellar luxation in her left hind leg, along with surgery for a hernia. She has recovered well from both procedures. Aromi also has an overbite, but it does not affect her ability to eat or enjoy her meals. She has also had a full dental cleaning with scaling. She has no known allergies and is otherwise in excellent health.Ideal HomeAromi would thrive in a quiet home where she can build a close bond with her adopter. Because she is uncomfortable around unfamiliar men inside the home, she may do best with a single woman or a household where visitors are limited while she settles in. A calm, gentle dog companion would also be a lovely match for her. Aromi has so much love to give, and once she trusts you, she will be a loyal and affectionate companion for life. For more info about the dog, or the adoption application, please click here.

Story
Meet Rico, a charming Chihuahua mix who is ready to find his forever family. Rico is a sweet, mellow, and generally quiet pup who loves human affection and handles easily. He is an incredibly social boy who does wonderfully with men, women, and children alike. Rico is already 90% house-trained and is fully crate-trained, meaning he respects his indoor spaces and enjoys having his own safe zone. He is not destructive in the home, though he does best when provided with plenty of his own dog toys to keep his playful side engaged. He is also an excellent travel companion who rides beautifully in the car. When it comes to other animals, Rico currently lives successfully with another dog in his home. On walks, he can be reactive on the leash-sometimes rising onto his hind legs when he sees another dog-but he displays absolutely no aggression. Because of this excitement, he simply requires slow, patient introductions when meeting new canine friends. Rico is highly adaptable and does not require a yard, making him a perfect fit for apartment living. To help him be his best self, his future family should be prepared to work on his leash manners, as he tends to pull a lot during walks. He can be a bit of a barker when excited, and his new owners will need to keep a secure hold on him since he is a known flight risk. Rico currently thrives on a veterinarian-recommended Hill's Science Diet easily digestible puppy kibble. If you are looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who balances a calm demeanor with a love for playtime, Rico might be your perfect match. **IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Poco! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Presenting the magnificent Poco! This little chihuahua is 6lbs of sweet and silly. Poco is a 6 year old male chihuahua, with a pretty cream colored coat. His sweet little face and tiny frame are quick to turn heads and steal hearts. Poco came to PDR by way of a Quebec pound, where he was surrendered by his previous owner. Upon entering foster care he was quite nervous and shut down, it was clear he had not been exposed to much of the world or given the opportunity to grow and build his confidence and independence. His foster family has been hard at work teaching Poco these important skills. While he comes from a life of being a lap dog who was treated like a stuffed animal he has started to grow into quite the confident adventurous gentleman. When he arrived Poco was unsure about being alone, he would sit and shake if he was not within eyeline of one of his foster parents. Now he is quite content to curl up in a dog bed and snooze away. This has also transferred to his crate training journey. While he still takes a minute or two to settle once crated, he happily trots into his crate at bed time or when his foster family will be out of the house. It will be important for Poco’s forever family to continue with his crate training and working on his independence. A crate helps to keep dogs safe and secure while they are alone, and provides them with a sense of security, like a home base where they can feel comfortable and rest. Coming into foster care Poco had some basic life skills already down pat. He walks well on a leash, and is quite excited to go out for his walks. As his confidence has blossomed he has very enthusiastically started to broaden his horizons. He has been to lots of local trails and dog friendly businesses across the region such as bookstores, cafes, and breweries. He is an excellent adventure companion! Poco knows some basic commands as well, such as sit and stay, although his foster family suspects he may know a few more.. But in French! He has responded to some of his basic commands in both languages. While Poco is house trained in his previous life he used pee pads during the winter time. As such he does not always let you know it is time to do his business. His forever family should be mindful as he adapts to a new space and give him lots of opportunities to go outside and do his business to help reinforce that the outdoors is the proper place for such activities. Poco has been to the vet, is up to date on his shots, microchipped and has been given flea/heartworm prevention. He came into the rescue neutered and outside of some minor plaque on his teeth does not have any health concerns at this time. Poco has been living with two other small dogs and has been happy to share his space. He shows no signs of resource guarding or food aggression. In the past week he has started to show a bit of interest in playing with his foster siblings but does not seem to have figured it out quite yet! We think with more time and confidence building he will be quite the social little guy. Poco has also met a few larger dogs and had the same reaction. Families looking to adopt should be aware of his size difference in his interactions with larger dogs to ensure his safety. Similarly he has started taking more of an interest in toys and is very enthusiastic to run around and fetch wrestle with a few of his new favorites. Our biggest hill to climb with this little man has been his appetite. It has taken him several weeks to acclimate to eating a kibble diet. While he is now eating quite well his future family should note he might regress a bit as part of his transition to a new home. This also has meant that he has not been interested in treats, so when it has come to training his foster family has used lots of positive touch and verbal affirmation that he is doing a great job. Currently Poco is spending around 2-4 hours a day solo while his foster parents are at work and has done quite well with this. Should he end up with a family who works from home it will be important that he still has the opportunity to be solo a few hours a day to keep up his new found independence. While Poco has not met any cats while in foster care we do not expect it to be an issue for him to go to a home that has other pets. Because of his size and his background a home with older children would be best, ages 8 and up. He will be considered a flight risk in a new home until he learns the ropes, and so safety with doors, and fences are a must. We think he would do well in any type of dwelling so long as he has access to a safe space to do his business. This funky little guy has been an absolute delight to foster. His little personality continues to grow day by day as he comes out of his shell and learns how to be a real dog and not just a stuffy on the couch. We can’t wait for him to find his perfect match to continue on his new adventures! Story
Currently fostered in Texas Meet Chico. He is apx 8 years old and a chunky stout 13.5 pounds. Chico is a great dog in many ways however he does take some time to warm up to new dog friends. This behavior appears fear based with new dogs he does not know getting in his face, he will growl and do a little air snap. After he feels safe and secure , within a few days, Chico will be your dogs new best bud. He also has a bit of separation anxiety . He hates a crate or pen and wants to be out with his people. Which really is not a problem because he appears fully potty trained and is not destructive. He walks on leash and we have never heard him bark. Chico is great with cats and kids. He would love a home with home body or retired person that stays home a lot with him. He would make a fabulous companion and lap dog. He is very clean, well behaved and would do fine in a small home space or apartment type dwelling. He will also use wee pads if you put one down and he never misses. He will have some anxiety the first few days in a new environment as he is just so unsure and scared of all the change. We can send him home with some medication to assist with this transition. He will settle in after a bit once he feels safe. Chico gets a dental on June 29th . He was neutered young and squats to pee so no marking. Chico loves all people and is very submissive to people and adores attention. He was an owner surrender to animal shelter so it is understandable he has some trauma he needs to work through. Chico is actually a very good boy aside from the dog aggression, and if he just had someone give him a chance a couple weeks of decompression time, he will be your best friend and most loyal companion. Story
Currently fostered in Texas This little baby angel is Olive. She is 2 years you g and a wee 6 pounds. Olive is still a bit feral. She is very quiet, shy, reserved, and scared. She does not just come to you. She will let me pick her up but you have to kind of corner her and then she cowers down a bit and braces to be held. She has zero aggression. She wont eat in front of us so we have to put her food in her hidey pen for her to run in there and eat when we walk out of the room. She settles in more and more every day . It is going to take time, love, commitment and patience but I have no doubt she will be a little lap dog in no time. Olive was rescued from a terrible hoarding situation. She needs time to heal, grow and learn to trust people. It would be great if you have other social, happy dogs to help her come out of her shell and show her the ropes of how to become a part of the family. No young children. She MUST have a very well fenced yard. No holes . No gaps in the gates. She will try and get out at first. She does better every day. More and more we see her relax, sun bathe, nap without being on high alert. Every day we see her blossom. Just give her a chance 💕🐾 Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given.
