His name was Ozzie. He was taken to boarding until a foster home became available to wish away the memories that scared and scarred him. Within a week, a lady came to pick him up. Ozzie saw the lady and tried to hide in a corner of the boarding facility. The lady took a step closer and Ozzie pooped his pants! (Okay, Ozzie didn't have pants on and it hit the floor. But, we don't want to embarrass him about being naked in public.) The lady spent a long time sitting near him and talking to him before Ozzie would crawl onto her lap. The lady took Ozzie home with her.  Ozzie was given his own room with a crate to sleep in. It had a warm fluffy bed. The lady placed him in the crate to adjust to the sounds of the house. Ozzie had never been more scared in his life. Whenever the lady tried to put a leash on his collar he would try to scare her away with snarls and barks, but she wouldn't give up. For 2 weeks the lady would dangle a slip lead through the crate and loop it around him before she could put his leash on.   The foster lady had discovered that Ozzie was afraid to have anyone be near his head. Ozzie started to realize that no matter how much he showed his fears, this foster lady wouldn't give up on trying to love him. His foster mom started leaving his crate and bedroom door open. One night he peeked into her bedroom and saw her with two other dogs on her bed. They were playing and licking her face...and she laughed and seemed to like it. Ozzie snuck closer and closer...until he was up on the bed at the bottom, watching as the other dogs moved closer to foster mom and cuddled up to sleep! Foster mom pretended not to notice as Ozzie crept closer and closer...until he came up to her and cuddled too! This went on for several nights. Finally, Ozzie decided that he wasn't so afraid of foster mom and he was going to give her a kiss on the face like the other dogs did. Foster mom was filled with joy. This kiss meant more than any wet puppy kiss she ever had. The scared and broken-hearted chihuahua had turned a corner and found someone he could trust and care for!As the days and weeks turned into months, Ozzie started to try playing with the other dogs.  He would sit on foster mom's lap, drink her iced tea and coffee when she wasn't paying attention, and start going up to other members of the household for petting. Ozzie learned nobody was going to hurt his head and all the humans respected his wish to allow him to give kisses first and not reach for his head or put their face in his without first being asked to by him. Life for Ozzie was the best he could remember. Then, one day, foster mom brought home a pup. The pup's name was Dink. Dink was a very energetic and playful puppy. Ozzie wasn't sure why, but foster mom decided to introduce him to Dink in the play yard...just the two of them! Ozzie heard foster mom tell someone she was so happy to finally see him play like a young dog should. Ozzie continued to play with Dink. They ran and ran in the green grass until they were both tired and thirsty. Ozzie thinks he heard foster mom say she hopes he finds a furever home now that his fears have lessened. Ozzie now has joy and hope in his heart that he will soon find another patient and understanding home of humans that he could make as happy as foster mom!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. The 3 of us are so thankful to be with 2nd Chance!  I am a very sweet gal that loves to be on your lap, get cuddles and kisses, I love to play with Roxy, and be outside enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. Roxy and I have lived together all of our lives, so for that reason we must be adopted together. Story
***ADOPTION PENDING*** Introducing Beowolf! With such a big name for a little dog, he responds to Beo (BAY-oh). Beo was an owner surrender who was loved by his dad (and grandma) for the past 8 years, but as their family grew, Beo couldn't stay (for NO fault of his own). Beo came to CCDR right before the holidays and his first few days were busy with an initial vet checkup and then he had a dental cleaning two days later. We don't believe that Beo ever had his teeth professionally cleaned, so he had a lot of buildup on his teeth, and four of his bottom front incisors were pulled since they were already loose. Beo did very well during his two vet visits and he was friendly with every person and dog he met along the way. Beo was described to us as being "affectionate, house and crate trained... great with other dogs, children and strangers" and he is living up to that description. He is quiet and polite and has a cute little whine that he uses to ask for something. Beo was previously an only dog, but he’s been getting along very well with his three new foster siblings. We also introduced him to cats, and he showed very little interest in them. He is such a ‘live and let live’ little fella! Since Beo was previously accustomed to high-rise apartment living, he is really enjoying being off-leash in his foster family's fenced yard. He likes exploring and prancing around and enjoys running with a tennis ball (he needs to work on the fetch and bring back part). Beo likes lots of attention and wants to always be with his person and will follow you everywhere. He gets a little antsy, at first, in the car and alone in his crate, but he does settle in and enjoys the view or takes a nap. We're told that Beo is a mix. We're not sure if some Dachshund or Terrier might be part of this little (14-pound) Chihuahua's DNA, but whatever the composure of his genetics, he sure is adorable and well-behaved! In fact, his foster family says that “Beo is the best-behaved foster dog that we’ve ever had!” Beo will certainly be a devoted companion to an individual or small family. He’ll most likely do best in a home as an only dog, where he’ll receive endless attention, or with one other dog who will pal around and play with him. Beo is being fostered in York, PA and his current veterinarian is in Ellicott City, MD. Please apply if you live local enough for Beo to join us when we conduct your home visit.

Story
Extremely Sweet and Loving, BUT Special Needs, this boy has been maltreated. Ah...Titan! He was picked up by animal control on Frye St, and apparently the owners didn't think enough of him to go get him. On euthanize date he was pulled into rescue. Mr. Titan was eventually sent up north for rehoming. After being adopted out twice, he was returned to Tennessee. The problem? Titan loves adult people, but Titan doesn't like to be told what to do. If you send him to his crate, he will growl and carry on all the way to his place. You have to understand the "Pocket Wolf"...they are so very small, that they usually display attitude. This does not mean anything really, but some people are intimidated by it. So! Unless you really understand and have past experience with this breed, please scroll on by. Titan needs a forever home, not another bounce back. Contact us and we will put you in contact with is foster to answer any questions.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Tucker the chiweenie! Tucker is estimated to be between 1-2 years old and weighs 8 pounds. He is small in size but has a BIG personality! Tucker walked right into our house and made himself quite comfortable. He enjoys a nice comfy dog bed, playing with toys and romping around with his foster brother. Tucker can play for hours and can never get enough attention from his foster parents. Tucker is very curious of the house cats and will attempt to chase them. Tucker’s little legs makes him a bit of a klutz. He walks well on a leash but does enjoy having a fenced-in yard to explore. He is also very content when he has to be crated and sleeps through the night with no accidents. He is pretty much house trained, but we are still working on his cues for letting us know. The chihuahua is strong with this guy, and we are trying to work on his manners. Are you interested in adopting this silly, lovable guy? To adopt Tucker, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, neuter and all the love you can handle!
