Story
Starky is a 1.5-year-old, 22-pound mix-breed pup looking for his forever home. The shelter team thinks he might have some Cocker Spaniel and Schnauzer in his lineage, which would explain his handsome beard. He is a playful and energetic pup who is excited to go on walks or play with toys. He loves to run too! According to his previous owner, Starky enjoys spending time with children, but because he's still learning how to manage his size and energy, he might accidentally knock over smaller ones if they're not steady on their feet. His previous family didn't have much time for training, so his new owner will need to help him learn his house manners. Starky plays great with the other dogs at the shelter, but he has not been around cats. With a little guidance, Starky is sure to be a quick learner and a wonderful companion. His adoption fee is $350, and he comes vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. If you're interested in adding this fun-loving dog to your family, you can apply for him today. Story
Inky is a sweet 32-lb boy who’s feeling a bit lost and confused right now. Everything is new to him, so he’s understandably nervous — but underneath the worry is a gentle, loving spirit waiting to come out once he feels safe. He recently had a big grooming session by one of our fabulous volunteers (he was quite matted!) and handled it like a champ. Inky actually enjoys being brushed and adores gentle ear scratches. Because of his coat, he’ll need *regular lifelong grooming* to stay comfortable and healthy. With patience, reassurance, and a calm home, Inky will soon realize he’s finally safe — and ready to open his heart. Inky will need an adult-only home or one with dog-savvy kids 12+

Story
Bella is back! Bella thought she’d found her forever home but it wasn’t the match she had hoped for so she is back with her foster family. Bella gets along great with her foster family’s dogs and four cats. She wouldn’t mind another dog sibling in her new home. She loves hanging out in the backyard and snuggling at night. She loves walks but needs to work on pulling on the leash – she is so excited she wants to charge ahead. She likes toys and is learning how to fetch. Bella’s main challenge is meeting new people. She barks and gives a growl if they want to pet her before she is ready. Once she feels safe, she happily accepts guests even if they haven’t been over for a month or two. It may take an hour of steadfastly ignoring her while Bella decides her “stranger danger” instincts were an overreaction. Bella’s foster mom instructs people to just ignore her and wait until she is ready for a pet or two. With patience you will get a really sweet little dog. Bella is about three years old, 19 pounds and is completely housebroken. She looks to be a spaniel mix. A calm, patient household would be just the right fit for this little girl. She looks to be a spaniel mix and around 2.5 years oldSeptember 2, 2025, 8:41 am

Story
Meet the cutest boy around, Ollie! Ollie is approximately a 3-year-old cocker spaniel. We were told he  is pure-bred, but we have no way to know if that is true. We love him regardless. Oliver was adopted from the Yolo County SPCA a couple of years ago, but unfortunately, he is looking for a new home again. While his family loves him, they have come to accept that he needs to be the only animal. He has been living with his current family for 2 years and has become a very well-mannered young dog who has all basic commands, walks perfectly next to his mom, and loves to spend his free time in the yard chasing bugs in the grass or getting belly rubs. He is crate trained and sleeps in a crate all night with no difficulties. Ollie is a little bit shy and will need a family who will give him a few minutes to get acclimated to new people in his space. Once he is ready, however, he will very quickly become a lap dog to guests and even will do a booty bump to encourage more pets if they stop. Ollie is quick to settle down and really just wants to lie next to you on the couch and snuggle for hours. He does have minor separation anxiety and will whine for your attention upon return, but so far has not displayed any destructive behavior. He may also get excited to see you and accidentally piddle on the floor. Ollie is a cocker spaniel, which means grooming includes regular ear cleanings, trips to the groomer, and daily brushing to keep his coat from matting. Ollie has been trained on baths and now takes them like a champ!  His current groomer loves him and hopes she’ll get to keep seeing him. Ollie’s owners have fallen in love with him, unfortunately, he is currently in a house with other dogs and cats, and needs to be in a single animal household with either teenagers or no children. Ollie will do best with an experienced family who can do daily walks with access to a yard where he can really let his sniffer go wild with all the scents. His new family will need to ensure his poop is cleaned up regularly as Ollie does suffer from coprophagia. Overall, Ollie is a character with a goofy personality and loving demeanor.  Ollie will be staying with his current family until his next best friend can be found to help him continue gaining confidence as he matures.   Ollie's adoption fee is $450.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. For more general questions, please see our website at www.yolospca.org. May 22, 2025, 9:05 pm

The Melon Puppies have been thriving in their foster home— mastering their daily routine and delighting everyone with their snuggles, zoomies, and adorable little antics.   Their days are full of joyful chaos: they wake up with the foster family at 8 AM for pen cleaning and morning playtime. Meals are served at about 8:30 AM, 1 PM, and 6 PM, and the rest of the day is spent alternating between wrestling matches and cuddle puddles, tug-of-war tournaments, and romping around the family room. Each night the pups settle down for bedtime in their pen with relaxing background music and a little snack around 10 PM.   Cantaloupe: The Tiny Tangy Firecracker   The smallest of the bunch but absolutely bursting with personality, Cantaloupe is white with stunning blue eyes and an endlessly entertaining presence. He may be a petite little nugget, but he launches himself into playtime with the confidence and gusto of a pup twice his size.   This boy makes the cutest little gremlin growls when he's roughhousing with his brothers— tiny tough-guy noises coming from a soft marshmallow of a pup. He’s brave, bold, and a joy to watch.   Watermelon: The Sweet, Soulful “Moo”   Watermelon is white with black spots and looks like the world’s smallest, cutest baby cow— so naturally his foster family nicknamed him 'Moo'. He is the mellowest of the melon puppies. He isn't afraid to join in rough and tumble play, but also has a quiet, snuggly side. Sometimes he'll sit in his pen and look at you with his big soulful eyes that say: “Hello. I am available for cuddles now.”   He melts into the arms of anyone who picks him up and is the perfect companion for someone looking for a gentle love bug who’s equal parts playful and affectionate.   Honeydew: A Gentle, Joyful Pup   Tan, soft, and sweet in every sense. Honeydew is the simplest of souls in the very best way. He's easygoing, playful, happy to be held, and thrilled to be part of any puppy pile.   He loves toys, loves people, loves naps, and loves life. There’s no drama here— just pure honey-sweet puppy energy. If you're looking for a warm, soft, kind little pup to brighten your days, Honeydew is your melon.   Ready to Meet Your New Best Friend?   These pups are sweet, silly, affectionate, well-socialized, and thriving in their routine. They love kids, adore other dogs, get along with cats, and are happily building healthy puppy habits every day.   Whether you want bold, mellow, or sweet, the Melon Puppies each offer their own goodness. Any of them would be a wonderful addition to a family ready to love, guide, and grow with them.   Let your heart pick the perfect melon— your new best friend is waiting.    December 3, 2025, 2:37 pm
