He is shy initially, but sweet as can be. Once he warms up to people, he can be very affectionate. River is very treat motivated so that can help with training if needed. We are unsure of his training history, so he may need some help adjusting to a new potty routine. He seems to do well in his area with little-to-no accidents. We are also unsure of his history with kids, cats, or other dogs. To meet this adorable boy, please come to the shelter with everyone that lives in the home including dogs.  **DON'T FALL VICTIM TO FRAUD - Scammers have been responding to comments asking individuals to private message them for more information or post spam sites. Story
We pulled little Jeffery from a high-kill shelter in CA with 44 minutes to spare, after he was found in a storm drain. This was the 3rd time he had ended up in the shelter. This time, his owners didn't want him back. Jeffery is the life of the party! Pony hopping up and down the yard, any chance he gets. He is a wildly intelligent dog. He is a big fan of other dogs, that are gentle with him. His energy is unlike anything we've ever felt. He's a very special boy. Someone described him as a "new soul" and that connected all the pieces, that's exactly what it feels like! He is almost completely deaf and has some vision impairment, more so affecting him at night. Jeffery has a smaller forebrain and cerebellum than most dogs, causing a slight wobble and unsteady gait. He's completely self-sufficient and can move and potty on his own. His disability doesn't get in his way whatsoever! As far as we know, Jeff was born like this. We have been working to implement touch training with him to better communicate and give him the structure and boundaries all dogs strive for! Interested in learning more about Jeffery? Story
MEET MAISIE!!! Maisie is a sweet and shy girl. She was on and saved from the euthanasia list at County for being fearful. However, it only took her two days to become comfortable with her fosters, and they say her personality continues to emerge more and more each day. Maisie is exceptionally smart. She is trained to sit, shake, sit to be be leashed, sit before meals and waits for a release cue. She is trained to potty on command. She is currently working on crate training. The door is open at all times and treats are tossed in for her to become comfortable entering/exiting the crate. Maisie is an active dog and requires at least twice daily walks or runs. She would make an excellent hiking partner as well. She is not destructive when left alone but can be vocal at times. Maisie will need daily brushing; she sheds like a German Shepard. She has shown some resource guarding when it comes to her space, her people or her treats. She is a submissive female and gets alone well with the other foster dogs.  Maisie has tendencies to escape, so she is still walked in the yard on a leash for now. She is double-leashed for walks because she can be startled/interested by passing cars. She is non-reactive to passing dogs on walks. When she trusts you, she is the sweetest snuggly dog. Adopters should be aware of canine body language and recognize when she is uncomfortable with strangers. Let her approach strangers at her own pace. She is responsive to "low, side greetings." Maisie is a great dog who excel in a calm home where she feels safe and comfortable. Meet Maisie today!
