Chandler is in the process of learning so he can be everything a collie should be in the not-so-distant future. For now, he doesn’t seem to know what toys are and prefers to stick to his foster mom’s side. When he feels secure, he is mellow and lies next to her on the sofa. Chandler is house-trained and doesn’t need to be left in the crate overnight; however, the first week he was crated and did well.     Chandler doesn’t seem to have been socialized when he was younger, so he might do well with the right dog who will help him understand boundaries and manners but would do best as an only dog. Currently, Chandler isn’t believed to be safe around children since he does get too rough in his play.   Even with his difficulties adjusting to his new life, Chandler has shown he is full of potential. He is friendly, often laid-back and wants to love and be loved. The wonderful collie heart and soul are in there and Chandler has shown them. He is just waiting for his forever person to help him be all that he wants to be.  Chandler's adoption fee is $350. He loves being chased outside by his foster sibling but is equally happy observing life from his favorite spots in the house or just exploring the yard. Rocky loves to gaze out the window as well. When he came to his foster mom’s, he didn’t know what toys were for and now he is playing with toys on his own. His foster mom used the words “handsome, friendly and lovable” repeatedly for Rocky. That makes for a winning combination in any family member. On walks, Rocky likes to meet people with friendly wags of the tail and then move close enough to be petted. When it’s mealtime or when treats are offered, watch out! This boy is happily motivated by food, and food motivation is a plus when training. Speaking of training, Rocky hasn’t had much time to be trained so far, but he is house-trained and is progressing with “come” and “no.” Your yard will need a physical fence higher than 4 feet. Rocky deduced how to escape fences only 4 feet high. Sometimes collies are too clever for their own good. All Rocky needs now is to be in his forever home. He is now with loving foster parents who are teaching him what it means to be loved and in a peaceful, safe home. Harrison had some anxiety when his fosters brought him home, but after only a few weeks he’s really settled down. However, they don’t want to upset his progress so are moving slowly with new experiences and formal training. They are now starting to see his true personality revealed, and he is wonderful! Harrison loves to snuggle. He didn’t know what toys were, but now he is gleeful when he plays with them. At first, he was very selective about what he would eat, but now he happily eats whatever is offered to him. Harrison is house-trained, and it is amazing that he learned that so quickly given his time on the streets.  He’s made all of this progress in just a couple of weeks. She has adjusted well to her foster home. Viewing her yard, watching the squirrels and whatever is happening outside is a favorite activity. She seems to prefer a quiet, safe place where she can watch what is going on both inside and out. It appears that Melody likes a routine, quickly adapts to it and demonstrates that she knows what is expected of her. Because of her mellow personality, she would enjoy a canine sibling who is also calm and easy-going. She comes to the door to greets visitors, enjoys being petted and then goes back to her comfy spot.   Melody loves to hunt for treats hidden around the room. She is intelligent and remembers where a treat was hidden last and will check that spot again. She enjoys finding treats in the yard too. She had an unfortunate interaction with a car before she came to Almost Home. Her leg was injured and Almost Home is checking with the professionals to see if any further intervention is needed. We will update you soon. She does limp, but it does not stop her from enjoying short gallops on her walks. She wants to bark at and chase cars, so she needs to have a fenced in yard to prevent her from getting near any moving vehicles. Melody is fine being crated while the family is away, but recently she was awarded free roam of the house for being such a good girl. At night she is confined to a couple of rooms because she is so trustworthy in the house. She understands and responds to: “come,” “leave it,” “no,” “yes,” “good girl,” and her name (she is not asked to sit due to her limp). Melody's easy-going manner makes her quite the gem inside, but she also enjoys going for walks and especially when walking with a canine friend.
