Story
Meet Sophie: A 2–3 Year-Old Mix Looking for a Forever Home-we’re not sure the mix, but one vet thought Coonhound. We were guessing Mastiff, but she isn’t huge though. Maybe when all filled in, 80-85 lbs. Sophie is a courageous and affectionate dog who recently traveled from Texas to find her. Age/Breed:** 2–3 years old Location:** Bozrah, CT History:** Has undergone heartworm treatment and completed obedience training Personality:** Sweet, eager to please, and full of potential with the right guidance What Sophie Needs in a Home Large-breed experienced adopter: ** Understanding decompression and how to work with a rescued dog helps set them up for success with their new family Kids: Sophie is really good with the children in her foster home (ages 9 and 11). Note: Any new dog should have supervised introductions with kids in the home. Other dogs:** Gets along with larger dogs with proper introductions. This standard applies to every adopted dog. We do not recommended cats or small dogs for Sophie. Intro/Decompression:** A patient, slow-introductions approach will bring out the best in Sophie. Important Notes Protections and patience are key. Following a decompression plan will help Sophie settle into her new routine and become the best dog in your home. Story
I adopted this sweet boy about 3 1/2 years ago, he is approximately 7. I had to move and it is just very hard to afford keeping him comfortable (dog walkers/pet insurance/vet/prevention/food, etc) as a single income household. Before we moved, I lived at my family home, he had a yard with an invisible fence that he respected and did not try to test/escape. People were around that could do potty breaks and he was overall adjusted well to be home alone. Now we are in a smaller space with dogs kind of off leash in our area so I've had to drive us elsewhere to do walks before/after work. He's selectively social but treat motivated. He responds very well to the vibration (not shot/static) corrective collar during walks if he needs redirection. I wish I could write more here Pros: protective, doesn't destroy furniture/doors, calm, not much vocal, couch potato Cons: counter surfer, separation anxiety (Impact dog crate would come with him, but does well loose in the house)

If you have any questions, please email us at adoptions@pawscrossedny.org for more information. Please understand that we cannot hold any pets. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants. The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.July 28, 2026, 11:53 am

Story
Meet Ottis!  Ottis is a handsome 2 year old, 60 lb red and white coonhound mix who recently arrived in NJ and is truly the total package. This sweet boy is house trained, crate trained, and has wonderful manners in the home. He’s calm, affectionate, and loves being close to his people. Ottis is a big fan of car rides, couch snuggles, and cozy evenings at home. He already knows “sit” and “stay,” and he’s eager to please. Like any respectful co-worker, he'll let you work from home without demanding too much attention. At night, he doesn’t even need to be crated — once everyone settles in, Ottis makes his little rounds checking out each open room before curling up in a small pet bed at your feet and sleeping peacefully until morning. He’s the kind of dog who fits naturally into family life and brings a comforting, loving presence wherever he goes. Whether you’re relaxing at home or heading out on an adventure, Ottis will happily be right by your side. Story
Puppy Jack is a handsome 4 1/2 month old Coonhound mix puppy looking for a family to help him blossom. Surrendered by his owner, this boy is very nervous upon meeting new people right now. He is a jumper and/or climber and will need a fully enclosed 6-foot fenced yard (not a chainlink fence, though). He will need a patient owner who has lots of time to spend with him while he learns the essentials. He’ll flourish with plenty of playtime, exercise, mental stimulation, socialization and love while he learns.Jack is up to date on vaccinations, heart worm negative, microchipped and will be neutered upon adoption . He is currently at our Freeport location. If you would like to meet him, please fill out the adoption application on our website using a laptop or desktop (no phone or tablet, please) at https://bobbiandthestrays.org/adoption-page-new/. Kindly keep in mind that our adoptions are local only (NYC area and Long Island).
