Meet CanyonSome dogs are all about action. Canyon is all about company.This handsome Black and Tan Coonhound mix has reminded us time and time again that happiness doesn't have to be complicated. Give him a porch to lounge on, a trail to sniff, a volunteer to walk beside, or a shady spot to relax, and he's perfectly content. He's the kind of dog who makes ordinary moments feel special simply because he's there.Canyon is a true hound through and through. His nose is always on the job, every walk is an adventure, and he likes to explore the world at his own pace. He's not interested in rushing from one thing to the next. He prefers to mosey, investigate every interesting scent, and soak it all in. If you've ever loved a hound, you'll recognize that wonderfully independent, charming, and sometimes hilariously stubborn personality.One of our favorite things about Canyon is how easy he is to spend time with. He's happy to walk quietly by your side, settle in for head scratches, or simply sit next to you while you enjoy the fresh air. He doesn't need constant excitement to be happy. Your company is enough.Now, let's be honest...he is a hound. Every now and then, Canyon will decide he has a better idea than you do. He has that classic hound selective hearing, and if he catches an interesting scent or spots wildlife, he'll suddenly remember he has places to be. He's also a strong boy who can surprise you with an occasional burst of enthusiasm when he's determined to investigate something. Anyone familiar with hounds will know exactly what we're talking about, and honestly, it's part of his charm.Because of that, Canyon will need a securely fenced yard or should remain on a leash anytime he's outside a fenced area. While we imagine he'd absolutely love life in the country, we wouldn't trust that incredible nose not to convince him to follow a scent trail or chase after a deer. Consistent training and supervision will help set him up for success.Despite spending far longer in the shelter than any dog should, Canyon has never lost his gentle spirit. He's become a favorite among our volunteers, whether he's greeting our weekly Community Support Systems volunteers like old friends, charming shoppers on outings to Rural King, or happily heading off on nature walks. He's always ready for an adventure, especially if it means meeting new people along the way.Canyon has also done well around other dogs. We recently introduced him to one of our playful shelter dogs, Zoey, and he handled it exactly how we'd expect from a mature gentleman. He was happy to walk alongside her but politely declined her invitations to roughhouse. We think he'd do best with another laid-back, respectful dog who enjoys companionship more than wrestling. As always, a meet and greet is required.Because Canyon is a hound with a strong prey drive, he is not a good fit for a home with cats or other small animals.If your perfect day sounds like sipping coffee on the porch, taking a leisurely walk through the woods, exploring new places, or simply having a loyal companion quietly by your side, Canyon might just be your perfect match. Must also have strong arms when he decides he doesn't want to listen to your sense of direction or if he happens to see a cat that needs chasing. lol. After everything he's been through, Canyon isn't looking for anything extravagant. He's just hoping someone will finally choose him...and this time, forever.His adoption fee is $200 and he comes neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested negative, on heartworm/flea/tick prevention, and microchipped.
