Story
Meet Charlotte! Charlotte is a big, beautiful hound with lots of smarts and a friendly, gentle nature. She loves to mosey around the yard, taking in all the sights and smells that make life exciting for a hound dog. While she can be a little timid at first, Charlotte has shown herself to be a friendly girl who appreciates gentle attention and a calm approach. She's hoping to find a patient family who will help her build confidence and show her just how wonderful life in a loving home can be.

Story
We adopted Copper over a year ago to keep our older dog (who had lost his companion) to keep him company. He is over a year and a half old. Copper has been a great playmate with our other dog, respectful with our kids ages 2-6 and is a great cuddler. Unfortunately our father’s health has declined to a rate where he needs to move in with us. Copper is sadly too big and high energy to have them both around. He needs a home where is able to get his energy out fully and given more attention.

Story
Meet Salvatore! This 35-pound coonhound cutie is just a year old and is looking for a family like yours to share his life with! Curious and ready to explore, you can always find Salvatore following his nose in the yard. This dude loves the outdoors and enjoys every moment of his time with volunteers and his fellow kennel mates. He is very affectionate and gives great kisses too. Sal is very food-motivated and appreciates every tasty treat you share with him. Sal will benefit from lots of daily exercise, mental stimulation, and nose work. He will thrive with a yard to enjoy (fenced-in or tie out required). True to his breed, Sal loves to chat it up so a house environment would be best (no apartments please). He will make the ultimate companion for one lucky family! Based on our evaluation, we feel Salvatore would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. He may have the potential to live in a home with other dogs and we are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby! If you think he could be the guy for you, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our sensational Salvatore!

Story
Meet Sadie, an adorable Coon Hound, age 5 , and sweet as she can be. She was a neglected dog found in Grand Rapids and surrendered. She is great with dogs, cats, and kids, housebroken and well behaved. She is so grateful and loving. She can go to most any home and adjust, and a fenced in yard would be necessary for her total happiness. She has her wormings done , flea and tick control, 4dx tested for Anaplasma, Erichilia, Lyme and HW disease. She has her DHLPP and Rabies, HW prevention started, spayed, and a Home Again Chip with a prepaid lifetime registration and 30 days of free Pet Insurance. Apply at www.lakeheavenrescue.orgSpecial Announcement"Lake Haven Loves Coonhounds"If you have visited us often you might have noticed that we love coonhounds. This was not always the case until a few came our way and we started working with them. We now know that:(1) They are sweet, sensitive companions similar to many of the other popular hunting breeds like retrievers and pointers. Coonhounds are guaranteed to make you laugh with their silly personalities and sense of humor.(2) They are an American original. Born, bred and developed in the USA!(3) Most are not aggressive seekers of attention so a gentle hand on their backs or a stroke to their soft ears quickly leads to melting contentment.(4) Grooming doesn’t get much easier! A quick swipe over their short, slick coats, nail trim and ear clean will put the polish to a hound.(5) Most hounds over two years old have a great on/off switch. Full of energy and ready to rock when a job is at hand, then content to laze on the porch or dog bed for hours when it's quiet time.(6) Coonhounds rarely “borrow trouble”. While they are far from innocent if an opportunity presents itself, they won’t invent or create problems.(7) Bred and selected to be workers, they have few congenital issues or problems that show up in dogs bred for a particular “look”.(8) Kid-friendly and dog-friendly! Many hounds were bred to hunt in packs, so they have great social skills for the dog park or in your home.(9) Soulful brown eyes to drown in and long silky ears to adore.(10) Stripes and speckles, spots and solids, reds, blues, tan, black, white, colors galore!
