Story
Hi! My name is River and I’m a happy, healthy, and thick treeing walker coonhound mix. My beloved papa passed away unexpectedly in January 2023 and my auntie is caring for me until I find my furrever home. I have been ruling the roost for all 7 years of my life, so I could use a little obedience training, but I’m easily trainable and eager to please since I love people. I’m fiercely loyal to my people. My papa treated me like the queen that I am, and I would love to be an only child again as I am picky about other dogs. I’m apartment-friendly but would love a yard because I like to play and could stand to lose a few pounds. If you are strong and active, love playing fetch and going on long walks, looking for loyalty and affection, want someone to spoon you in your sleep, and want to fund my chew toy habit, will you be my human? I can’t wait to meet you!

Story
Buck is a strapping happy go lucky hound that needs a warm snuggly couch and best friend to snuggle. He loves to work out some energy in a fenced in yard and do something symphonic baying and howling then back in the house to lounge around. Buck is heart worm positive, don’t let that stop you. There are “slow kill” methods available to rid Buck of heart worms. Give your family veterinarian a call to discuss your options. A generous supporter is offering to pay for Buck’s adoption fee. Give Granville County Animal Shelter a calm to schedule time to visit with Buck and fall in love.

Lana

Coonhound/Foxhound

Female, Adult
Durham, NC
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Good with kids, Good with dogs, Good with cats,
Story
PERSONALITY & BEHAVIORS Lana is as sweet as her doe-eyes look. A little shy at first Lana warms up quickly, and is a low-maintenance gal who is overjoyed to receive any and all attention. Because of her current skittish nature and her "opportunistic escape tendencies, Lana will need to live in a home with a very secure fence or always kept on a secure leash when outside. Lana is very gentle with all things living (kids, cats, other dogs) and would be a good fit in most households, as long as there is a quiet, safe space for her to go to and a consistent routine to help her adapt to the new changes. A little zig-zaggy, Lana is learning leash skills and does not pull hard unless she sees something that excites her (like another dog-friend!). Lana loves to lie in the same room as her human and watch TV (see video) or take a nice doggie-nap. She does not like a crate, but does fine when left alone in a room and she is not destructive. She is house-trained and can go 6 hours between potty breaks. PHYSICAL Lana has a typical tricolor hound coat with a long white muzzle and cute droopy ears. Her eyes are dark black and they look like sweet doe-eyes. HEALTH Lana is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and heartworm negative. HISTORY Lana was a stray and pregnant when rescued by a Good Samaritan. Her puppies were taken in by another rescue.

Story
Penny is a small hound mix who came to us as a stray, found inside a Walmart, over 3 years ago. She tends to be shy at first, but warms up quickly if you go slow. She has some stranger danger issues if approached too quickly. In her previous home Penny lived with kids and other dogs. She enjoyed going to horse shows and riding on the golf cart with her owners. Penny is on a special diet that she will need to stay on for the rest of her life. If you are interested in adopting Penny, please fill out an application at www.sarges.orgJune 8, 2023, 3:36 pm
