Story
Jackson is a very sweet little guy. I rescued him 3 years ago. He had been on the street for quite a time so he is very skittish and needs to smell someone new to the house. He is protective but I have 3 young granddaughters and he growls at them and that is just not a risk I would ever take. He would do best in a quiet home with someone to love him and in a situation with no children.

Story
Precious Maya is a 27-lb, 7-year-old mystery mix looking for a special home.  Background: Rescued from the streets of Mexico, Maya’s early life was defined by extreme hardship and neglect. Her physical condition was staggering; she had arrived emaciated with infected ears and skin, tick-borne diseases, half a tail, and a shoulder injury that left her permanently scarred. She was also suffering from severe dental damage: her teeth were cracked and worn down to the gums. The vet believes that in her desperation to quiet the pangs of starvation, Maya had resorted to eating rocks. She underwent six months of medical rehabilitation and is finally ready for her forever home!  Personality: Maya is a gentle soul who refuses to hold a grudge against the world. A true social butterfly, she loves all people and other dogs. She greets every newcomer with a wagging half-tail and an immediate request for chin scritches. If you stop petting her, she’ll give you a polite paw tap to remind you she’s not quite done being loved! One of her most endearing quirks is bed-hopping—happily moving from one dog bed to the next to ensure she’s tested every cozy spot in the house.  Health: Maya is a warrior who has overcome staggering odds. While she bears the physical markers of her past—a docked tail, scarred shoulder, and missing teeth—she is stable and happy! She had 10 teeth extracted but has no trouble eating or playing with toys. She has estrogen-related incontinence that is 95% managed with daily medication. Her medication is simple to administer and affordable at approximately $25/month. Maya is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines.   Training: Maya is a dream in the house! She is housebroken, crate-trained, and has excellent leash manners. While she can occasionally show a stubborn, independent streak, she is highly food and treat motivated, making her very easy to win over and engage.  Ideal Home: Maya is a laid-back girl who would thrive in almost any loving environment where affection is a top priority. Her perfect match will commit to her affordable daily medication, enjoy leisurely daily walks, and provide a variety of beds for her to hop between.  Adoption Requirements: Maya's adoption fee is $350. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*: helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application  *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up.  March 1, 2026, 4:47 pm

Story
Poor little Odin needs a break! This handsome young man was found roaming the streets and was brought in to animal control. We pulled him out of the shelter. Now he has been fully vetted and is looking for his forever home. A bit of bad news, though. Odin is heart worm positive. He will need a nice calm place to begin his recovery, but the vet feels that he should be back to 100% in no time. Well, not actually no time. Recovering from heartworm takes a while, but because the infection doesn't seem to be too advanced, we're hoping it won't take too long.
