Story
Adonis entered Baldwin Park Shelter as a stray with such overgrown nails that they curled into his paw pads and caused injury. Thankfully, the cuts healed, and his paws are ready to go on walks! When Adonis wasn't claimed during his stray hold, we welcomed him as a Frosted Face on April 6th. He is estimated to be 14 years old and weighs 14.5 lbs.
Adonis is so soft, so snuggly, and just so sweet! He is very friendly towards everyone who enters the FFF play yard - toddling over, wagging his tail, and then melting into his newest friend's lap. He is very easygoing and would make a great snuggle buddy.
Adonis went on a two-week Frosted Fling so we could learn what he is like in a home setting. His foster mom shares:
"Adonis loves his comfy beds and blankets - the
more the better! He likes to sit next to you and snuggle on the couch, and he is happy to sleep either in his dog bed or on our bed between us at our feet. My husband works from home, and Adonis was content to hang out and nap nearby. I work in an office 5 days a week, and Adonis was always happy to see me when I returned in the evening. He doesn't bark or jump on you when he greets you. He walks towards you with a big smile, tale wagging, and will lick your hand to let you know he'd like more pets, please!
Adonis became excited every time we got ready to go outside for a potty break or walk. He has great leash manners and doesn't mind walking at the pace of our slower senior dog who has arthritis or waiting for him and my husband to catch up. In addition to walks around our neighborhood, we went on walks around Mission Bay and Fox Point Farms in Encinitas. Adonis can run when he is at the off-leash park playing with other dogs, but most of the time, he was just happy to take a stroll and take in all the sniffs. When we took Adonis to the Carlsbad Street Faire, and it became really crowded, my husband carried him in a sling, and he didn’t mind at all. We also took him to coffee shops. Adonis is also a great passenger in the car.
Adonis is not a picky eater and ate kibble and wet food during his fling. He does not resource guard his food and takes treats gently. We fed him separately from our dog as Adonis would try to take some food was his bowl. Since Adonis learned "sit" = snacks, he sits in front of anyone hoping they have a treat for him. If they don't give him a treat, he happily accepts pets instead. He is making good progress with "stay", too!
The first day of his fling, Adonis was a little too interested in our cat. We kept them separated but when they were both in the same room, we used a spray bottle with water, and by the next day, they were able to coexists in the same space. (See photos!) Similarly, Adonis also had potty accidents the first day, but he quickly learned and adapted to a schedule. Smart cookie!"
If you're looking for a sweet, easygoing companion who loves cozy naps, leisurely walks, and being close to his people, Adonis might be the one for you!
