Adorable Gretchen is ready to wiggle her way right into your heart! She is a darling 6 ½ -month-old puppy (born approximately 10/30/25), weighing 10.8 pounds, with a beautiful black and tan coat. This sweet Dachshund / Chihuahua mix definitely takes after her Doxie side with her long little body and irresistible charm. Gretchen came to AFC with her sister, Gretel, who is also available for adoption. She was lovingly surrendered so she could find the forever family she deserves. Gretchen is current on her vaccinations, micro-chipped and is scheduled to be spayed soon, but she is ready to start meeting potential adopters now. She’s still a puppy, so she will need continued house training and leash training, but she’s already learning the routine of going in and out on command and is eager to please. George is an 8-year-old, 12-pound chi/dachshund mix with a sweet personality and a very smart little mind. He figured out the doggie door in just two days and now happily lets himself out to soak up the sunshine whenever the mood strikes. George loves being outside and gets very excited when it’s time for a walk - he’s still working on not wrapping his leash around his human’s legs, but he’s trying! George is friendly and his tail is almost always wagging. He enjoys meeting new people, especially once he’s had a chance to sniff you first and make sure you meet his standards. He loves other dogs and fits right in with his foster brother and sister, so he would likely enjoy a home with another canine companion. George has been noted to have some arthritic back issues, but so far his foster mom hasn’t seen any limitations other than stairs. He runs, plays with his foster brother, walks comfortably, and was even caught jumping off the couch when his foster mom came home. A one-story house with minimal stairs is highly recommended for George due to his back issues. Presently, George is being fostered in a one story home with minimal stairs and he does very well. His back isn't slowing him down. Going up and down stairs in a multi-level home, continually, will aggravate his sensitive back and it could present a bigger issue as time goes on. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will love you unconditionally, George might just be your perfect man.

Pepito was found abandoned, blind with cataracts, infested with parasites, and losing hope. Luckily a good hearted person saw him and found him help. Now he's learning love again with regular care and TLC from staff and volunteers. Pepito is blind, so he relies on predictable routine and home layouts to navigate. He's caught on quickly to the ins and outs at the shelter and is growing more confident by the day. He's at a point where he will walk outside and use his nose to explore his surroundings. Pepito has also been around other small dogs before and would likely pair best with an easy going friend that won't try to rough house or push him around.  Pepito is looking for a home that can watch over him and show him the love and care he hasn't received in a very long time. 7/7/25: This sweet girl came into the Animal Shelter as a stray, just about to burst with pups and not fully mobile on all four legs. She is being seen by a vet to determine the best way to deliver the pups. She will become available as soon as all her pups are whelped and weaned, anticipated to be early to mid-September.
