***Local adoption only: Felix needs to be adopted by a family in the Central Florida region (Orlando area) who will commit to taking him to follow-up vaccinations and neuter (at the appropriate time) with PPR's vetting partner. The cost for these is covered in the adoption donation.***
Hello! My name is Felix and I am a Chi-weenie (Chihuahua Dachshund) blend boy. I am 11 WEEKS old, and I weigh 5.6 lbs. My name means “happy” and “fortunate”, and I am! I am also adventurous, affectionate, curious and a self-proclaimed “wiggle-butt”. I would be most fortunate to find a forever home where I can be loved and shown the ropes about being the best boy I can be! I tend to “go with the flow” and am doing great adjusting to all my new experiences.
Favorite Things: Felix loves toys . . . the more, the better! He also loves to play with his sister Fiona (they are currently being fostered in the same home). At night, they turn into little gremlins and love to wrestle, play and do zoomies. Felix loves to give kisses (puppy breath is the best) and has a fondness for cuddles and food, which makes him easy to bond with. He is in his “puppy chewing” phase, so must be supervised or kept in a secure area.
Training & Manners: Felix is a clever boy and is learning potty training quickly. He has not been on a leash yet, so will need to learn about that from his owner. He is accustomed to wearing a collar (a cat collar at present because he is so tiny). Felix is food motivated which should lend itself nicely to basic training. He tolerates a car ride.
Health and Care: Felix is up to date on vaccines, but will require boosters, as well as his neuter at the appropriate time. The cost of these is covered in his adoption donation and they will be scheduled at one of PPR’s vetting partners. Felix should not need any elaborate grooming but will just require nail trims and an occasional bath to make his look and feel his best. He does have floppy ears, so weekly ear cleaning should be a part of his regular routine.
Other Animals: Felix is currently in a foster home with larger dogs and his sister Fiona (who he loves to play with). He would do great in a home with another small, playful pup (maybe even Fiona?). While he is familiar with older dogs, his energetic play style could overwhelm older, laid-back dogs. He has not been tested with cats and would need slow introductions to any feline friends. Please keep in mind that he is a puppy with lots of energy, so not all cats may be excited about that.
Children: Felix has not had experience with children. Due to his tiny size, he will do best in a home with respectful, older children (8+) who are supervised by the adults in the home.
Ideal Home: Felix can be quite vocal and tends to cry when left alone. For this reason, a single-family home would be best. He will need lots of playtime and exercise to work out his puppy energy. He would do best in a home with someone who is home more often than not (especially as he continues to work on potty training). When home alone, Felix does fine in a secure area and after a day of play, he is content to dream away in his own secure space.
Overall: If you are looking for a gentle, silly, curious boy, Felix could be the perfect match for you. With consistent training and gentle guidance, he has all the potential to become a loyal, loving companion.
