Story
Hi, I'm Lincoln — but you can call me Linc. I'm two years old, I've got a goofy face, an even goofier personality, and a zest for life that tends to win people over in about five seconds flat. I came to DARE after a medical emergency required amputating a few toes on one foot, but don't let that fool you — it hasn't slowed me down one bit. I'm just as happy chasing a squeaky toy, sunbathing on the patio, cooling my paws on the top pool step, or riding shotgun with my ears flapping in the breeze. I walk beautifully on a leash and I'm always up for an adventure, especially one that involves a car ride. And if you give me something soft to burrow under? I am gone — life is simply better under a blanket. My Ideal Home Good with other dogs, kids of all ages, and everyone in the house. I do best with an adopter who gives me calm, confident structure and consistent boundaries — Dachshunds like me thrive on it. A Few Important Things to Know - Toe amputation history: I lost several toes on one foot in a medical emergency before coming to DARE, but I've fully recovered and it doesn't limit my activity at all. - Needs structure: I can get a little possessive of "my person" if boundaries aren't maintained, so I do best with a family that provides consistent leadership and clear rules. - The grumbles: I've got a signature old-man grumble I use to voice my opinions. It's just how I talk — I've never bitten anyone — but we're working on better communication habits. What I Bring to the Table By day, I hang out in the home office with my foster family and their other dogs, snoozing nearby and taking breaks for playtime and sunshine — I'm truly happiest just being part of the pack. At night I sleep in my own crate alongside my foster siblings, though given how much I love a good couch snuggle, I have a feeling I wouldn't object to an upgrade to the bed in my forever home. I'm playful, hilarious, loyal, and ready to keep someone smiling for a long time to come. Story
Hi, I'm Freckles — and I've got a very specific set of skills: expert napper, professional toy destroyer, and full-time lap occupant. I like to sit on top of my people (personal space is overrated), and when I'm not doing that, I'm happily rearranging my toy collection. At night, I retreat to my crate like the responsible little gentleman I am. I'm five years old, which means I've got the goofiness of a younger pup with the good sense to know what I actually want out of life — mostly snacks, walks, and you. My Ideal Home Good with other dogs, kids of all ages, and everyone in the house. I'm house-trained, crate-trained, and love a good leashed walk (just not through wet grass — I have my limits). A Few Important Things to Know - Skin irritation: I've got some irritation under my legs that my foster is having evaluated soon. Nothing has slowed me down, but my future family should be ready to follow up on treatment. - Texture preferences: I refuse to walk on wet grass. Non-negotiable. Bring me a towel or plan our walks accordingly. What I Bring to the Table I'm an easygoing guy who gets along with just about everybody — dogs, kids, adults, you name it. My vet visit came back with great bloodwork and great teeth, and I even lost a couple of pounds to get down to a healthier weight. I came to DARE after my original person passed away, and his family made sure I landed somewhere safe. Now I'm ready for my actual forever spot — ideally one with a lap, a few toys, and dry grass. Story
Hi, I'm Charlie — I've come out of my shell since arriving at DARE. I've got a great appetite, and I wake up every morning happy and bouncy, ready to run with the pack, chase squirrels, water the field, and investigate every tortoise hole I can find. Not bad for a 13-year-old, if I do say so myself. My Ideal Home Good with kids, cats, small dogs, and everyone in the house — but I do best as an only dog or with small dog/cat companions only, since I'm not great with big dogs. I love sleeping in bed with my people (or in my crate, if that's the house rule), and I'm house-trained, crate-trained, and up for leashed walks with plenty of sniffing. A Few Important Things to Know - Not a fan of big dogs: I do best as the only dog, or alongside small dogs and cats. Big dogs aren't my thing. - Thunderstorm anxiety: Storms make me nervous — a calm, comforting space during bad weather goes a long way with me. What I Bring to the Table I've got morning energy, a zest for squirrel-chasing, and a curiosity about the world that most pups half my age would envy. I'm sweet, I listen well, and I'd be forever grateful to the person who gives me a soft (and adventurous) place to land for my golden years. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Mae Pearl!A little dachshund with a big name.  Mae Pearl came to Pet Rescue by Judy when her family had to move and could not bring her with them.  She is a VERY energetic and quick pup that will definitely need a FENCED yard.  At this time we are recommending a home with low traffic due to the possibilty of her getting out of a house and running.  She is a sweet and cuddly pup, but if she sees the door is open she literally tries to dash for it.She loves people, other dogs and cats. However, she does have lots of energy and another active dog her size would be her ideal companion. Essential precautions for dachshund owners include: Prevent Jumping/Stairs: Never let your dachshund jump on or off furniture. Use ramps to allow access to beds and couches safely. Block stair access using baby gates to avoid using stairs.  Proper Holding Technique: Never pick a dachshund up by front legs or armpits. Support their back with one hand and chest with other, keeping spine completely level.  Maintain a Lean Weight: Extra weight causes severe stress on their back, greatly increasing risk of spinal emergencies.  Use a Harness: Always use a Dachshund IVDD type harness instead of a collar. Collars put strain on their neck and throat; harnesses distribute pressure evenly across chest.  Provide Traction: Slippery hard floors cause sliding and straining backs. Place area rugs or yoga mats in main areas for a firm grip.  Monitor Chewing: They are prone to scavenging. Secure trash cans and keep small items out of reach to avoid choking or intestinal blockages.  Regular Health & Dental Care: Because of unique skulls, they are prone to dental issues. Check and brush their teeth regularly. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 5, 2026, 11:34 am
