JJ’s Compatibility:Dogs - Meet & GreetCats - Passed his cat test!Kids - Best suited for a home with kids 14+At 10 years old and 22 pounds, JJ is a little dog with a big heart and an even bigger love for his safe spaces. He’s been a loyal companion for years and is now looking for a home where he can feel secure, loved, and understood.JJ is crate-trained and finds comfort in his own little den, often retreating there when he needs a break. He’s the kind of dog who prefers a predictable routine and a calm, low-key environment. He’s done well with older children and enjoys short, leisurely walks where he can take in the sights at his own pace. When it comes to meeting new people, JJ can be a little reserved at first. He’s cautious, especially with unfamiliar men, but once he warms up, he’s willing to accept gentle affection on his own terms. He doesn’t like to be picked up unexpectedly, but he’ll walk willingly on a leash and loves being outside for fresh air and potty breaks.JJ isn’t looking for a busy, bustling household—he’s looking for a quiet, understanding home where he can settle in at his own pace and enjoy his golden years in peace. Give him time, respect his boundaries, and he’ll repay you with quiet companionship and unwavering loyalty. Could JJ be the missing piece to your home?-----Adoption Fees & Benefits:Under 1 year: $2001-4 years: $1005-9 years: $5510+ years: $35Fees include: Heartworm test (age appropriate), vaccinations, flea/tick preventative, complimentary bag of food, wellness exam, and rabies vaccine.A `meet and greet` with any existing dogs in your home is required, supervised by our team in our play areas. Story
Meet Lucky!??This sweet 10-year-old, 25.2-pound Dachshund mix is hoping to find a soft place to land for his golden years. When Lucky first arrived, the shelter environment clearly overwhelmed him—but even through his nerves, he remained gentle and allowed staff to care for him without complaint. Now that he’s had a little time to adjust, we’re seeing his true personality peek through. Lucky is a calm, affectionate guy who enjoys the company of people and will happily accept a treat or two (or three!). He does well in a crate and isn’t overly concerned with other dogs.He may be a senior, but Lucky still has plenty of love to give—and at just over 25 pounds, he’s the perfect size for any home. He’s not asking for much, just a quiet space and a kind heart to share his days with.Let’s make sure Lucky doesn’t spend another day in a shelter when he could be snoozing on someone’s couch. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@co.johnson.in.us for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!
