Story
Betty & Bop were found in a tote at a convenience store parking lot in northern Indiana. They were covered with fleas, malnourished and missing alot of their fur. After being taken to the local shelter, Betty contracted parvo. By the time she made it to us, she had been through a lot. You would never know it though as both Betty and Bop are cute, energetic, entertaining and very very loving. They do have a bit of "stranger danger" after their ordeal, but that is in the form of barking at any new person or dog that comes their way. However, it does not take them long to get used to new things and to return to being "normal" dogs. Betty & Bop are BONDED and will need to be adopted together. Betty is estimated to be around 9 years old and weighs 16 pounds, while Bop is younger (best guess is 5-7 years old) and only 7 lbs. The adoption fee for Betty & Bop together is $200.  If you are interested in meeting them, please fill out an application on our website at www.4pups.org and we will arrange a meet n greet if you are a match for them. As of right now, we are only considering potential adopters within 1 hour of Indianapolis as the girl's will be getting spayed on November 30th and Betty has a dental scheduled for December 29th. The girls will be fostered until adoption can be completed after all of their vetting is done. ##1854916##

Story
Shotske came to us after his owner died with another dog. He is almost 11 years old and a long haired dachshund. Shotske is incredibly sweet, and really enjoys long strolls outside and treats. New situations and new people make him a bit nervous, but he’s still sweet and gentle, even when unsure - he will just retreat. When shotske arrived here, he was over 25lbs and experiencing some back leg/end paralysis which isn’t uncommon with aging dachshunds, especially if obese. He is now a healthy weight, runs and leaps, moderately active, and not on any medications. A new family will have to make sure his diet is strict, because he loves food and treats but needs to be normal sized to stay healthy. Shotske came to us with Pansy and can be adopted separately, but then would prefer another small dog his size that is in need of social connectedness, or to be the only dog in a home where he could be the center of attention. He is housebroken, and will go outside, but his previous owner used potty pads in the house, so if you don’t make him go outside, he won’t. He requires regular grooming and absolutely NO cats.

Story
Hank came to us after his owner passed away. He is 8 years old and currently 23 lbs (but could stand to lose a few lbs). He is very social and loves people. He gets along great with other animals. His one flaw is that he is a marker, so a belly band would be best for him while he acclimates to your home. Hank is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested, on heartworm prevention, and on flea prevention

Story
Banjo is delightful! He is approximately 10 years old, and our best guess is he is Dachshund mixed with something bigger (his shape looks Doxie, but he's about 40 lb.). He is a mellow dude who just likes to hang out with his people. He's fine with kids and other dogs, but he's also fine solo. He is very polite and housetrained. Banjo is hypothyroid so will require lifelong medication for that. He also has some lipomas (benign squishy spots) that we are just monitoring unless they become problematic for him. He is the sweetest, friendly little guy! He will make someone an amazing companion.    Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Each dog in our rescue is in a loving foster home, where they can grow, play, and recover from their time spent on the streets or in a shelter. If you'd like to meet an adoptable dog, please fill out an application on our website, www.edcr.org. Because we are a foster home based rescue a completed adoption application is required to meet our adoptable dogs. December 7, 2023, 6:50 pm

Story
Nikki is a mature gal who knows what she wants - two meals a day, plenty of water, and several treats, naps, and short walks every day. She is happy to have some affection, but will walk away when she has had enough, and is content to lay around in dog beds, blankets, or the floor. (Because of her short legs, she can't jump up on the furniture.) Since being diagnosed with Cushings Disease, she is now on the proper medication, and along with weight management food and regular exercise, she has lost a few pounds and is getting peppier by the day! Cushing's does require ongoing care and medication. We'll happily discuss it with you and we're also waiving her adoption fee.Nikki has been aggressive towards other dogs over food in a previous foster home, so it is recommended that she be the only animal in the home. She is reactive to cats and large dogs but has made friends with other small dogs in her current foster neighborhood. She is very friendly towards most people and has done well at the public events hosted by the shelter. She has done fine with older/mature kids who know how to approach a dog, let her sniff them out, and give her space. She was not a fan of smaller/energetic children approaching and petting without letting her sniff them out first, and tried to walk away from them.Nikki doesn't seem to know any commands, but is a very well-mannered and friendly dog. She will stay still to have her collar put on and walks well on leash. She is a relatively quiet dog, but will bark when something startles her, like a loud noise or an approaching stranger or dog. She is housetrained and will walk to the door, bark, or nudge you if she needs to go out. She will gladly go into the crate for a treat and stay content for several hours. She does not play with toys and doesn't need much attention or grooming. She has short hair and does not shed much at all. She enjoys being brushed and having back scratches or rolling in the grass. Once she trusts you, she enjoys belly rubs too. She has also done well getting baths in her foster homes.
