Story
Shotske came to us after his owner died with another dog. He is almost 11 years old and a long haired dachshund. Shotske is incredibly sweet, and really enjoys long strolls outside and treats. New situations and new people make him a bit nervous, but he’s still sweet and gentle, even when unsure - he will just retreat. When shotske arrived here, he was over 25lbs and experiencing some back leg/end paralysis which isn’t uncommon with aging dachshunds, especially if obese. He is now a healthy weight, runs and leaps, moderately active, and not on any medications. A new family will have to make sure his diet is strict, because he loves food and treats but needs to be normal sized to stay healthy. Shotske came to us with Pansy and can be adopted separately, but then would prefer another small dog his size that is in need of social connectedness, or to be the only dog in a home where he could be the center of attention. He is housebroken, and will go outside, but his previous owner used potty pads in the house, so if you don’t make him go outside, he won’t. He requires regular grooming and absolutely NO cats.

Story
Lola is a darling little snugglebug who is ready to find her forever family! We estimate she is about 12 years old and looks like a wire-haired Dachshund; she's about 14 lb. She gets along well with everyone - dogs, cats, and people - though she will chase after chickens and bunnies! She is mostly deaf but she gets around well and learns quickly (learned to use the bell to go out at her foster home).  When she came to us she had a mass that had to be removed from her hip, but it was successfully & completely removed. She had a complete dental and wellness care. Now she is being treated for heartworm infection, but we would love to find her forever family so she can finish out her treatment while she gets settled in to her happily-ever-after.   Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Each dog in our rescue is in a loving foster home, where they can grow, play, and recover from their time spent on the streets or in a shelter. If you'd like to meet an adoptable dog, please fill out an application on our website, www.edcr.org. Because we are a foster home based rescue a completed adoption application is required to meet our adoptable dogs. May 14, 2024, 12:45 pm

Story
1/29/24: Dorkie is a Dachshund Yorkie hence the name: Dorkie is 8 lbs and 9 years young. He is a great dog, that is not fond of someone in his face. He likes to be petted, sleeps with his foster and gets along great with the other small dogs as long as they don't challenge him (no big dogs). We don't recommend kids under 13. Kids need to understand his space issues and leave him be if needed. He is mostly house trained and goes to the door to go out. He is crate trained. Walks well on a leash. Be the perfect dog for quiet couple or individual. He has come a long way since his intake in 2022. UPDATE: July 2022 Dorkie was previously adopted and was just returned for being pushy with other dogs and will need a patient experienced parent. If he knows that the behavior will not be tolerated. He is house, and crate trained. Once he realizes his pushiness will not be tolerated, he is good with other dogs that are not dominant. he is an active pup that follows you everywhere. He does get underfoot, so keep that in mind. He loves doing Zoomies and exploring so a fenced yard is needed. 4/1/2022 Dorkie is an owner surrender along with his brother. Purchased at Petland 7 years ago and never vetted. Both were covered in fleas. They had sibling rivalry and would do best apart. Freds Mission Rescue has an adoption radius of 100 miles from Cincinnati. All dogs are fully vetted, altered, current on flea/tick/heartworm/wormer, and microchipped. The rescue does not adopt out to properties with invisible fences or tie outs. Application: https://form.jotform.com/FredsMission/app
